I really think at this stage in our development, all government subsidies to media should be dropped along with CanCon rules. The bureaucracy is expensive and unnecessary. Those creators who have entertaining and persuasive products will succeed and those who don’t won’t. Let’s get rid of these gate keepers who decide what has value for public consumption. It’s time to lean out the CRTC.3 points

If the economy is your concern at all ,the worst thing you could possibly do is elect a right-winger as a president , lets look at a little history . Now add in Obama and what you will see is that the right could never catch up / They are losers as far as any aspect of the economy is concerned3 points

Our Gov't gave CBC a $675M/yr raise after they pimped 2012 Duffygate as a 2015 election issue, gave $600M to 'select media outlets' (and the president of the UNIFORS union was one of the people in charge of deciding who got that money - a man who declared his union was the official opposition against the conservatives) "so that they could provide accurate media coverage prior to the 2019 election", then gave $61M to a top secret group of media outlets to "provide accurate media coverage prior to the 2019 election". Damn right it has to stop. They also tried to gift the WE 'charity', aka Trudeau Youth Camp, almost $1B to brainwash children with this type of thing: Then our PM uses a jumbo jet to fly media sycophants around the country to cover his election campaigns because he feels like reporters in Mtl, Van, Edm, Regina, Winnipeg etc aren't skilled enough to bear true witness to his glory. If Trump used AF2 to fly Fox reporters, Project Veritas, etc around the country the left would scream bloody murder, and the excuse of "I bought carbon offsets to make up for the fuel we burned" would be rejected entirely. The amount of taxpayer money that our federal gov't spends on their own re-election is staggering.2 points

California is a state of over 30 million. If it were a country, it would have the world’s fourth largest economy. It’s difficult to compare to a state of 400,000. There are several counties in California with more people than several entire states. California has lead the nation and the world in countless ways. Nuclear weapons, most of UNIX as we know it today, nuclear medicine, the movie industry. The first legalized gay marriages. The gay rights movement itself. Silicon Valley and most of high tech comes from California. Biotech as an industry began in California. And a massive agriculture industry. JPL. Electric cars, Apple Computer, Oracle, Cisco, Intel, AMD, countless more. There’s more high tech in California than in the rest of the nation combined. The state now has a lot of poor people. Not surprising… if you’re homeless, you won’t freeze to death in most of California. And poverty creates a lot of problems, especially when it’s next to billionaires. It might not be the utopia it once was, but it’s hardly a failure. So the answer? Yes, California is the state other states should aspire to be.2 points

Oldest trick used by dictators around the world, give self perceived failures a reason and someone to blame for their failures, and they will buy into it totally. Think about this, if that's the case what will the right do to stay in power- yup make as many in the population feel that suffering. They will legislate America's failure.1 point

All is not perfect in California and the same can be said for many other places. But one must ask, why are people and businesses leaving California? Businesses Are Fleeing California Along With Its Residents, And President Biden Should Pay Attention (forbes.com) Why some tech companies and billionaires are leaving California (cnbc.com) I know there are lots of beautiful places in California and the weather must be amazing, but I've also seen some truly shocking images of the utter filth in the streets. Not to mention the soft on crime policy. Some big chain stores are leaving because of that. They cannot stay in business if it's practically legal to steal. Is there anyone here on the left side that truly believes that California is the model that the rest of the country should aspire to? The serious problems listed by reason10 are very real. The idea of reparations to blacks is a bad idea but it's not surprising that it may come to pass in a place like California.1 point

I'm curious as to what some of your favourite news sources are. Can you share? And again, you talk about my "programming" but you clearly only watch news sources that you feel are agreeing with your narrative. We rely on different sources and often come to totally different conclusions. I do not think that the government should be funding news agencies that will be covering them. It's a waste of taxpayer dollars.1 point

Trump's economy was doing well BEFORE it was destroyed by his incompetent handling of the pandemic. I started a very long thread on another site detailing all the ways he sabotaged the US pandemic response, causing 100s of thousands of unnecessary DEATHS. He even revealed to Woodward (on tape) during interviews for the book, all the lies he told the American public about the pandemic.1 point

You have no clue what fascism means. Trump delivering the best economy is laughable. Forget the whole economy, can you cite even a single metric in which The Trump economy was the "best"? Jobs? Deficit? GDP growth? Pick something, find a primary source and go for it. I won't hold my breath.1 point

It's not. I'm going to have to go with Army Guy on this. Considering the lifestyle sacrifices you make, the danger in which you put yourself, and the training requirements and standards that are expected of you, our servicemen and women are being underappreciated compared to their civilian counterparts. Ignoring diversity and not at least encouraging it doesn't work either. Despite what everyone seems to portray, there is a huge amount of nuance and gray area we can aim for. This was a very interesting and timely read: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/article-canada-military-shortage-crisis/ Written by a navy commander who retired back in 2019. Here are some of his observations: 1) Support for our troops is certainly necessary, but it doesn’t deal with the fundamental problem: The Canadian Armed Forces no longer reflect the principles and values of the Canadian populace, or of a modern Canadian work force. 2) Successful modern businesses understand that employees want to feel valued. They also understand that, if they want to access a higher quantity and quality of talent, they need to become an employer that people actually want to work for. This thinking should drive military reform. To start, the CAF should substantially increase members’ pay. No profession is as uniquely demanding, in physical and psychological terms, as military service; wages should reflect that. And just as work-life balance is an important consideration in a modern workplace, military leaders should recognize that deployment time is not the equivalent of working from a different office: It is a high-demand period that requires meaningful rest afterward. Post-deployment time off should be equal to the time of deployment, as is the policy in the Danish navy (and elsewhere in offshore industries). This has helped keep Danish enlistment high, and attrition low. 3) Marching in lines, stamping feet on parade grounds and keeping with traditional uniforms – these should also be done away with. These rituals are simply not relevant to the citizens who must make up the force of the future; they reflect the reality that Canada’s military is stuck in the past. Nobody wants to work in an old, tired organization that draws its culture and values from a museum; people want to be part of an agile organization that rewards modern values. The Canadian Armed Forces needs to abandon its sternward perspective on legacy force structure and missions – or it won’t be able to bail out the sinking ship.1 point

Anyone with half a brain knows that Trudeau scrapped the EA that his party fought so hard to maintain because the Senate was about to vote and it didn’t look like the act would be supported. I do have a good sense of character. Trudeau, Freeland, Lametti, Mendocino, and most of the Cabinet came off looking like power hungry manipulators. It was disgusting actually. I remember people overseas watching Canadian Parliamentary Question Period for the first time. It was clear that a modern western democracy was pushing hard to curtail rights in significant ways. The mandates, EA, freezing of accounts, and vilification of legitimate protesters were unprecedented in Canadian history, really in world history. Comparisons were drawn to protests in Eastern Bloc Europe and even 1930’s Germany. It’s a dark period of our history that will forever be associated with Justin Trudeau’s Liberals for a significant segment of the population. You can downplay it, but, Methinks thou doth protest too much. You must know how opposable your arguments are, yet you persist to fight like the Holy Grail limbless knight. It’s Quixotic.1 point

Nothing more than a deflection to steer the comments in a different direction. this is the typical leftist answer, dare to speak negatively about Justin and all they can come back with is well PP said or did this, Meanwhile Justin is the PM and none of his political deeds have done much for this country, well except dope it seems to have found a place in all Canadian hearts. It's not PP that is going to get himself elected is that Justin is outstaying his welcome that's what is going to get Conservatives elected.1 point

the government handing out ever more newly printed fiat dollars simply throws gasoline on the inflation fire so this problem will solve itself in a catastrophic financial & economic crisis1 point
-
If you could specify exactly what is wrong with spending money, in a manner that reflects that the government is spending it not the PM by personal decree, perhaps point out exactly what spending you object to, and do it in a manner that isn't uber-Conservative generalization and cliche, then maybe... you'd have some credibility.1 point

PP has been criticized about his cryptocurrency comment, but it was a trivial comment and a trivial issue. I doubt it will have much political value for long. The real issues that most Canadians are concerned about are the multi-billion dollar failing health care system, the housing shortage, and the high inflation. Yes Trudeau is still flying around the world creating greenhouse gases and throwing millions of dollars around every day. How many billion dollars is the Liberal government in debt now and Canadians must pay the interest on government debt?1 point

What is surprising is just how many Canadians don't give a rats A$$, that this issue could easily transfer to any piece of private property. I’ve come to the conclusion that there are those whose denial is so deep that they can’t face facts. So you admit that Trudeau invoked an act but canceled it just before the vote he needed to have go his way in the Senate to approve it. You think that Trudeau suddenly didn’t want the act that just two days prior his entire party supported in the House? Lol0 points
