Not only does Justin Trudeau not have the gravitas of his father, domestic and foreign policy circumstances are very different today. Canada use to be a legitimate middle power with credible military projection, naval capabilities, even peacekeeping resources sustained for many years. Canada had a very capable Cold War ASW role and mission for the GIUK gap, and was integrated well into NATO forces without the deadbeat apologies seen today. There was always a tension within Canada over compliance and support for American policies around the world, so succeeding Canadian governments adopted a strategy of covert cooperation but public defiance for political gain back home. Canada pursued the alternative "human rights" strategy using NATO and "allied" power for a "Responsibility to Protect" and beat up on third world nations. That won't work with China, which can now treat Canada like a chew toy with a PM who is ill prepared to lead, and doesn't have the resources to even get a "seat at the table" anymore. Arguably, this decline started with his father, and he wants to finish it (i.e. "post national state"). China only respects strength, and purposely exploits weakness. Time to hit the gym.2 points

Unless the government is going to reimburse that business at 100% of all expenses and expected profits during their closing, they need to STFU already. That goes for every business.2 points

Is anyone else disgusted by the draconian, unjust deep sixing of the Toronto BBQ owner who defied the lockdown order to open indoor dining for three days? This story illustrates exactly why people have become distrustful of the police and government. The $187,000 fine imposed on this business owner is vindictive and doesn't fit the crime. It does explain why small business owners and people in general are suspicious of restrictions that prevent someone from operating a business and earning a livelihood. I just don't think government should have the right to impose such restrictions. The right to earn a living is a basic human right. If you don't want to eat out, then don't. Ensuring social distancing and reduced capacity is one thing, destroying someone's business to make a point that police and government hold all the cards, right or wrong, isn't okay. What recourse does this guy have without taking expensive legal action that he probably can't afford? https://apple.news/A7SiAcw1sRxCR3d6CmZlinA1 point

There is a big difference between Turkey and China. China is far more powerful. One of the reasons for China's power is it's long range planning. Another is the willingness to support regimes that no country in the west would touch with a plastic pole. Xi doesn't back down easily. Pressure from a united front of the rest of the G20 nations refusing to do business might work but getting that unity is a difficult exercise. Look at how porous the sanctions against Rhodesia were. People do not want to pay five months salary to buy an Apple computer made in Canada.1 point

So dead-on. Makes you wonder how long the corporate globalists' media can have so many ignoring the obvious. I hear the razor-wire protected congress is currently trying to pass laws making counter media like Fox, OAN, and Remax illegal. But if you notice obvious facts like that you're a Trump cultist, a conspiracy theorist and most likely a racist. And if history repeats itself that itself will eventually become a crime punishable by re-education or depending on severity a possible trip to the gulags.1 point

I believe during the Carboniferous Period, oxygen levels soared to like 35%...this made for a rather explosive atmosphere...literally. The end of the Permian and Early Triassic is a historical low-point for oxygen at about 12%. Too low for most life.1 point

It's absurd. Asking for wages to be reimbursed, when policing is the reason these wages are being paid in the first place, by taxpayers no less. Any honest judge would wipe his ass with this.1 point

Canada has never had an independent war fighting capability, but at least in the past it could contribute to the collective defence that Canada depends on as a matter of policy and reality (NATO, NORAD, etc.). The bills are coming due and a majority of Canadians surely do not want to pay the price. Diplomacy is often only a soft glove that covers an iron fist. China sees opportunity (and weakness) in Canada's choices, even if most Canadians do not view it that way.1 point

Nevertheless, Canadian Forces had capabilities and could sustain operations that it cannot perform well today. Canada's previous defence spending included tactical aircraft, capable diesel electric submarine upgrades (British Oberon class), patrol aircraft, Halifax class CODOG frigates built in Canada, etc. The political will to do these things has all but disappeared...outside NATO pressure is resented....China pressure is tolerated. Not going to happen without hard power backing up soft power, even as a collective defence, which Canada continues to keep on a starvation diet.1 point

This contrarian article by Gareth Porter and Max Blumenthal published at the Grayzone draws almost everything about China Uygur Genocide narrative into question, beginning with a definition for genocide! US State Department accusation of China 'genocide' relied on data abuse and baseless claims by far-right ideologue | The Grayzone Gareth Porter and Max Blumenthal·February 18, 2021 The Trump and Biden administrations have relied on the work of a right-wing religious extremist, Adrian Zenz, for their “genocide” accusation against China. A close review of Zenz’s research reveals flagrant data abuse and outright falsehoods. Reading their report shows that Canadian government and media have no standards beyond slavish devotion to whatever path is set for by the US State Dept.! Here we are following a US judgment based on the work of one rightwing Christian fascist named Adrian Zenz, who defines "genocide" down to denying birth by means of abortion and birth control methods! So now we have our Canadian government and media having no standards beyond slavish devotion to whatever path is set for by the US State Dept.! Here we are following a US judgment based on the work of one rightwing Christian fascist named Adrian Zenz, who defines "genocide" down to denying birth by means of abortion and birth control methods! Interesting to note that in the past...even Cold War days, it was mostly the religious right who focused on China's One Child policy...which even prior stories on Uygurs, Tibetans and other minorities acknowledged was set at two children per married couple. Certainly this is state interference we would never accept, but now we got Liberals calling it genocide also! Or afraid to deny the conservative claim....Liberal ministers choosing to take a day off rather than take a stand on that vote in Parliament.1 point

Welcome to the new normal communist globalist world. It's not about a virus anymore. It's all about trying to get the whole wide world to be vaccinated. It's all bull chit but sadly there are still way too many people like you who believe that being vaccinated will set you free. You will never be free. You will always become a vaccinated slave every year. There has been many terrible consequences for some people who have allowed themselves to be vaccinated. Many have suffered serious harm to themselves and some people have even died. If anyone has an allergy those people could very well die from taking this Covid vaccine. Many people think that this is just one of your average vaccines but it is not. This Covid vaccine is an experimental vaccine with something in the vaccine called mRNA. The long term effects of this mRNA will not be known for some time down the road for anyone who takes the Covid vaccine. It is said that it could effect ones DNA and may make some women sterile. Anyway, fear is the greatest weapon to try to keep people in line. With fear your dear communist globalist politicians can use fear to be able to convince anyone that they need to abandon their freedoms in exchange for safety. No thanks. I will keep my freedoms and to hell with safety. Safety is just another way for politicians to try and convince the fools out there that safety is way more better than freedom. Sure.1 point

The point of the OP was though that it's not the inciting speech that creates these problems; rather the other way around, the decline of democracy as an active, intelligent and capable social entity creates the environment that becomes receptive to division, mistrust and mutual hatred.1 point

Not being raised in gun culture myself, I initially found the idea of "banning assault rifles" to be kind of a no-brainer. I mean, why do we allow private ownership of weapons designed to kill large numbers of people? Turns out it is more complicated than that. If anyone is interested, hop on youtube and search for 'beau of the fifth column gun control.' He doesn't have all the answers, but does explain the complications involved in a pretty easy to follow way. As a result of having watched his videos, I understand why this legislation is a foolish waste of money.1 point

I doubt Trudeau was especially acting for Kissinger and Nixon. There was no love between Pierre Trudeau and Nixon. The book "The Truth about Trudeau" (Pierre Trudeau) has a lot of information about how Pierre Trudeau had a great interest in the USSR, China, and Communist Cuba, especially Fidel Castro. Trudeau traveled to China and was very interested in their country and system. He also traveled to Cuba and became close friends with Castro. Trudeau shunned our American allies and reduced the number of NATO troops in Europe. Trudeau was a kind of radical who seemed to operate outside the realm of western democracy. 1970 was also the middle of the Viet Nam war when America was fighting against the growth of Communism in Viet Nam.1 point

The Communist system is already an enemy of America and western democracies. Pierre Trudeau cozied up with the CCP and Chairman Mao in 1970 and established diplomatic relations. The Uyghurs and people of Hong Kong don't need Xi to lose their rights and the Uyghurs being exterminated is happening now even with close trade ties. It is the Communist system which opposes human rights and is our adversary and was not recognized as such by Pierre Trudeau, and all politicians in Canada ever since. You can't sit down and deal with the Devil without expecting to lose in the end or you can't expect a fair outcome by trading and dealing with them. Liberals have thought all along that by dealing with them, the CCP would somehow change and become like the west. This was part of the deception westerners and liberals swallowed. There is a price to pay and it is now at the Cold War stage as China extends it's influence and control over western nations. The problem began in 1949 when China was taken over by Communist-Leninist and western liberals could not see the sinister implications for the future. This actually goes back to the 1800s when certain missionaries from Canada traveled to China and began their work there. Later in the 20th century some of them established some ties with leaders of the two main political movements and even their top leaders. A few of these missionaries were badly misguided and became friends with the Communist revolutionary leaders and actually morally supported them. This relationship seems to have continued after the revolution in 1949 and there was some connection with Canada's department of foreign affairs. This led to Canada trying to establish relations between Canada and the CCP. This finally happened when Canada became one of the first nations to establish diplomatic relations with the CCP in 1970 under the liberal leader Pierre Trudeau, who had a fascination with Communist dictatorships.1 point

AFIK this case, like all the others were based on the constitutionality of expanding mail-in voting in the face of the pandemic. The whole, Trucks of Ballots and Dominion voting machine arguments haven't really even been brought to court. Right-Wing media doesn't even want to address it because they know they face civil consequences if they do. See this Newsmax anchor walking of the set when Mike Lindell refuses to quit talking about it. https://www.cnn.com/videos/business/2021/02/03/newsmax-mike-lindell-2020-election-orig.cnn-business Which is going to put the GOP in a bit of a pickle, because that's all Trump will want to talk about. Last week he called into Fox News to talk about the passing of Rush, and he couldn't stop talking about how the election was stolen from him.1 point

This isn't a warship but it's part of the 'national shipbuilding strategy'. The coast guard has been working on building a new oceanographic science ship for about 13 years so far and is just about ready to actually build the thing. The cost is $108 million dollars. Whoops, I mean $144 million. Er, make that $331 million. Oh wait, let's just call it a round BILLION. That sounds about right. A BILLION dollars for a ship which isn't even a warship is about what it costs Canada to build anything bigger than a rowboat. After all, you've got hundreds of workers - and thousands of lawyers, consultants and grifters involved. Canada. We might not have the biggest or best ships, but we damned sure have the most expensive ones! https://ottawacitizen.com/news/national/defence-watch/cost-of-federal-science-ship-jumps-from-108-million-to-nearly-1-billion1 point

So on top of blowing the vaccine rollout, the federal government is now compromising immigration standards. Are we certain of that though? How many smaller places went into disarray when the main employer closed? The problem with fisheries caused pain in the Atlantics for decades. And that's with all the social nets and what if they weren't there? Watch your family starve or work for pennies? Or get paid for bringing stuff that gives temporary relief from all troubles into the community? Or... sure we want to go there? And the Army, with all respect, is paid for from the same public purse. And what if we woke up to find it empty one day?1 point
