Some social distancing will continue, but there is no way in hell they can keep the economy half shut down for eighteen months, nor even six.2 points

Let me help you put your mind at ease. You don't need to argue this point. I hardly see anyone who thinks it. We can all see how this virus is bad and must be safeguarded against. All viruses that kill in this manner should be, wouldn't you agree? Maybe not. It's the method of total quarantine that's debatable.2 points

I read this article today. There's a few errors and holes, but since this virus twists and turns, it's worth a consideration. http://web.archive.org/web/20200405061401/https://medium.com/@agaiziunas/covid-19-had-us-all-fooled-but-now-we-might-have-finally-found-its-secret-91182386efcb2 points

There's no doubt that there's derangement. But we know from Obama how people can become unhinged when they don't trust power. And Obama was sane, and competent !2 points

Good question. BTW isn't the US required to share this sort of information with it's BFF's? I thought we were prepared for things like this with treaties and alliances. Whoever dropped this ball should be shot alongside Xi Jinping for the same reason.2 points

You assume critiques to fit your TDS narrative. I never called Trump a Dictator (at least not in relation to Covid-19), and never called him racist for banning travel to China. I do feel his rhetoric to downplay the severity of the disease put the US far behind. And the numbers indicate just that. I also think he lies so much that you can't really know when he's actually telling the truth. I think both are fair critiques and can be backed up with evidence. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2020/03/trumps-lies-about-coronavirus/608647/2 points

I never mentioned or even considered Trump, but not surprised that you've got Trump on the brain again. Maybe get yourself a CT scan.2 points

True, so I wonder what they have in mind, if anything. One thing coming out of this is the recognition that we should not be relying on China and that manufacturing should return home. Japan is looking at this also, so Karma for China. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-04-08/japan-to-fund-firms-to-shift-production-out-of-china1 point

I don't know anyone or have read anywhere of anyone believing it is not highly contagious, why would anyone think or imply otherwise?1 point

He fired members of his administration. For doing their jobs, because it conflicted with his. In fact, I heard that Trudeau was warned about the virus in November. Prove me wrong. See, we can all participate in conspiracy theories. Since they’re unprovable, they’re worthless. But god forbid we have just one topic reserved for the Trudeau government. For some reason every topic turns into Trump. Is it not possible to have a thread that doesn’t drift to Trump by you people? China lies, Europe completely botches the response, but for some reason Trump takes 99% of the criticism on here. It’s absolutely absurd.1 point

By the way, you mean the way Trudeau fires people that disagree with him too, right?1 point

Either do you. The hospitalization rate is barely higher than the hospitalization rate of pneumonia. Furthermore, the vast majority of hospitalization is high risk people over 65. Regardless, those estimates are if nothing is done, and over a number of months or years. Not all at once. The regular flu has killed hundreds of thousands in North America if you want to cumulatively count a 10 of 15 year span.1 point

The worst thing about that drug is that Trump likes it. Based on experience, everything he says is incorrect, or a deception. So why waste time looking into it ? If Trump likes it it must be a bad idea. That's how mistrust works.1 point

The planet is shut down because it's highly contagious. The more people get it at once, the higher the death rate because hospitals become overwhelmed. You have a choice: economic collapse with thousands of deaths, or economic collapse with millions of deaths. You can continue to blather nonsensical misinformation from last month's FoxNews reports, but it doesn't make you look any smarter.1 point

It's not surprising to me at all that there are still those Trudeauers like you who still believe in this fake and phony plandemic exercise. But with liberals and socialists they can be made to believe anything because they have this little known problem called follow the liberal MSM leaders and liars. Even your own politicians are in on the hoax also. How stupid can some politicians be when they believe that shutting down their borders to all Canadians will help them get rid of this virus. It's suppose to be in the air, you bunch of airheads. How are you going to stop the virus from entering your province? There is plenty of proof that is coming available now which is starting to show what this is all about one big global plandemic exercise hoax by those globalists who created this exercise especially for silly people like you who will believe their lies and for people like you who could be easily convinced enough with plenty of constant brainwashing on TV that the sky is falling down and they will no doubt believe it. Really. And why do Canadians like you constantly always have to bring Trump into your picture? I am pretty sure that you are one of many of those stunned fools out there who now believe that Trump is responsible for this virus plandemic, right? Trump is not your president. Your bozo leader is a guy named Trudeau and he is your prime mistake and not your President. At least it is said that Trump got on the virus band wagon long before your bozo of a leader did anything about this virus. Why aren't you not blaming communist China instead? Those commies started it all. Try and stick and stay in Canada will you, and leave Trump out of this. Geez, some people's kids.1 point

Yeah no shit. It's just hope. Plasma is better, but not nearly as cost effective, as it requires extensive hands-on treatment. If Hillary Clinton or Justin Trudeau finds the cure, and it's proven, I won't refuse to take it or downplay it.1 point

Oh please. Person X may WANT to be an artist but if they have zero artistic ability, it won't matter how many opportunities or how much money you throw at them - they will never be an artist earning an income. Person X may WANT to be a doctor, but if they do not have the intelligence to be one, they will never pass the courses no matter what. Person X may be a person who for years has fried their brain on drugs. It doesn't matter how many opportunities or how much money you throw at them, they will never be able to achieve much beyond their own individual abilities, which they have diminished by their own poor choices. What you are implying has nothing to do with equality and you know it. Offering a person who is homeless by choice or a person who has fried their brain on drugs an opportunity to go to med school or gifting them their own art gallery is not "equality". If the point of this thread here is to say that Western countries do not have freedom, then at least choose some realistic points. Stop beating around the bush and just say what you mean.1 point

Anyone that asks for a study on hydroxychloroquine is being intellectually dishonest, as they should know that since the virus is new, there hasn’t been time to do a thorough study that takes several months. People are sick and dying now. To ask somebody dying now to wait until a study comes out, just because orange man is bad is as mentally deranged as I’ve ever heard. Doctors prescribe off label uses all of the time. But only with well known drugs. Hydroxychloroquine is a well known drug that’s been around for decades. Al, possible side effects are already known. Most people can use the drug without any problems. But it’s still only available by a prescription from a doctor. So I’m not sure what all the fuss is about. Other than because Trump suggested it might work based on evidence from other doctors. If Trump insisted that it shouldn’t be used, the same people, particularly in the mainstream media, would be finding all of the reasons that it should be. Unfortunately orange man bad takes up most people’s thought process during the current crisis. Canada was proudly tied to the largest imperialist power in recorded history...by choice. Still has the monarch as head of state. Has China done that yet ? I don't know what they promised Canada (which was already on a downturn from NAFTA), but they did provide access to U.S. corporations in exchange for technical transfer of IP, as promised. GM now sells more autos in China than in North America. Star Trek is scientific fantasy. China is economic and political reality. Learn the difference. I admire reality....not fantasy. China's culture is over 5,000 years old, with many ups and downs. Remember, British Columbia is the favourite for money laundering.1 point

Trump Derangement Syndrome is a terrible thing. First Trump is called a dictator. Then he’s criticized for not being enough of a dictator. First he’s accused of ignoring the constitution. Then he’s accused of not ignoring the constitution enough. He acts sooner than Trudeau. But is criticized by the same people giving Trudeau a high approval for his response. Everything Trudeau has done, Trump did first. I’ve given up on trying to reason with these people. They operate on pure emotion, as oppose to logic and reason. It’s a sickness that can’t be cured.1 point

China is rotting from within.. It created a pyramid predator economic system totally dependent on controlling its currency on world markets to create trade deficits and debts in its favour againstvghd West by price dumping and selling shit to us because of our own short sighted Greece. In so doing it has exposed the myth that trade can be free. The economic shut down in the West will now mean much of the debt China creates in others in favour of itself will now never be collected and so its economy will not be able continue to grow like it has which in turn will trigger unemployment and a revolution from within.. Hong Hong and this virus are early warning signs of its impending turmoil even though it's people return to work in the same infected markets continuing to spit, piss and shit on anything they eat or sell It's own wet markets infected the very blood it needs to suck and live off of . China and its puppet oil slave Russia may feel any economic competitor other than one owned by China or the Russian mob is the enemy but they are their own worst enemies and they fear their own people and revolutions from within far more than we neurotic Westerners fear viruses and think totalitarian regimes will save us from the zombie appocolypse. The insatiable appetite of China to sell so it can consume at all costs had triggered a Tsunami gaining momentum and circling its way back to swamp them. Trump is a flatulent Ferrengi, Putin a joke of a Klingon leader, the Chinese just Borg with a major malfunction and Trudeau is Jar Jar Binks. That of corse makes you Lt. O'hoora. The world has been floating on a sea of debt for generations....even more so now post pandemic. Well, debt and trade are two very different things, loosely related to currency valuations and foreign debt held. In general, you don't want debtor nations to fail and default on their debt. Wishing Canada would fail just to punish China is not a good strategy. It's more complicated than that. China promised access to the largest potential market in the world in exchange for playing ball. China is no longer just a pool of cheap labour, and is hell bent on moving to the top of the food chain. So far, they are on plan.1 point
-
Doesn't matter....same thing would happen....U.S. debt is very desirable and would be gobbled up by global markets (private and public). Holding some foreign debt is actually necessary for monetary and trade reasons. Riskier debt just returns higher interest or coupon rate in the case of bonds.1 point
-
China would just sell off Canadian debt instruments to a global market that has many other buyers. Canada's dollar would dip lower in peso value. Any actual default would have far more serious consequences for Canada, not China.1 point

Being better than JT is kind of a low bar to set yourself here. When did we last recall our ambassador from China? If conservatives wish to be taken seriously on this topic, they would be looking critically at decades of Canadian policy. For example, Harper started with tough talk on human rights but he had some wobbles subsequently. I presume ye’d want a more vigorous course correction than that. I think we can China-proof our country a bit but we can have little or no influence on PRC policy on our own. Only as part of an inter-continental trade bloc can we move them in a more positive direction and such co-operation does not look likely at the moment, except perhaps on preventing another pandemic. The least effective tactic is to lecture them publicly without backing it up.1 point

Let's get beyond the dry political theory: do you or do you not believe it's okay for a "functional society" to tolerate homelessness or should there be a floor in the economic pyramid that nobody will fall through for whatever reasons? On the flipside, should the economic rules be changed back that have allowed the rich to become superrich....stock options and buybacks used to inflate share values far beyond any price per share ratio could justify? Should ridiculously low investment tax standards be changed to mirror taxes on earned income?1 point

Thanks Betsy, but he's 10 years old and nobody but me and my partner are allowed to touch him; vet doesn't even recommend bringing him in unless it's a serious emergency because he's so terrified, not vicious, just paralyzed with terror. I spent considerable money and lots of time trying to get past this, but he's pretty determined that nobody but us can be trusted with his precious self. Even people he knows well and likes, he'll greet them warmly, from a 4 foot distance and shy away if they even stretch a hand with treats toward him. He was ready for Covid-19 the day he was born. Maybe if my partner and I weren't around at all for a week or two, he'd start to reconsider. Dog catchers have ways to catch strays that might work, I know, but that breaks my heart too. Thanks for the video, made me smile.1 point

Betsy are you advocating that the wearing of masks be made mandatory by law and enforced? Yes or no? Yes she said sensible in certain situations. In our grocery store they are enforcing distancing if they're not in your's say something or wear a mask if it makes you feel better but why assume everyone on the planet is as insensible as the people where you live and is an excuse to impose your solution on everyone? Assuming that's what you're doing. Why do people need to resort to telling the public they can catch this virus simply from people breathing in their advocacy for masks? You think people who are telling the public they can catch this virus from breathing people are arguing from an intelligent scientifically informed position? Where's the science. What's likelier is that Tam is simply saying its okay to wear a mask if it makes you feel better. She certainly didn't say you must wear one and neither is anyone else. So far but....dumbing things down to the lowest common dummy seems to be whats in store. Who would have thought conservatives would be such advocates of a nanny state and why does that nanny resemble Nurse Ratched? Must be the cuckoo times we live in.1 point

One of the major benifits of globalization is reducing the chances of war by increased economic integration. It also reduces costs which increases disposable income.for consumers. As for China in particular, they own a vast amount of debt owed by western nations. What do we do if they feel excluded from the global economy and call the debt? Why are some people on this site so antagonistic towards China, yet not the Phillipines or Brazil?1 point

There is a saying that has its origins in one of the English statesmen who was a critic of the ..new at the time - industrial revolution that was sweeping England....paraphrasing "our nation''s anti-vagrancy laws apply equally to all, so neither the rich man nor the beggar are allowed to sleep underneath bridges." It was a sarcastic attempt to demonstrate how disparities in wealth and social class make application of many laws unequal. At a time now when we're all being told to "shelter in place," a lot of Hollywood clowns have been shocked by the anger and vitriol coming their way on social media for their public service messages showing them 'sheltering' in their large, luxurious mansions. Imagine someone living in a tiny one bedroom apartment, or shared accommodations....especially if they have young children watching empty-headed Hollywood stars like Gal Gadot thinking they understand the plight the covid pandemic presents to common people today.1 point

Since you couldn't be bothered to try to read the research paper I posted yesterday, and instead posted two more evidence-free blameshifting videos in response, I'm going back to the evidence provided by real scientists, rather than American and their Chinese lackies in Hong Kong who've been trying to goad a US invasion since Trump took over, and are just looking for an excuse...any excuse! Ultimately, it doesn't matter a crap whether or not the Chinese Government tried to put a lid on it and hide early evidence of a developing pandemic from its own citizens as well as enemies bent on damaging and even destroying them! The US Government knew what was coming by means of CIA informants first, and then watching how the epidemic spread in the Far East and across Central Asia. Yet, the CDC, hospitals, DHS wasn't ready for some reason, and bastards who follow Trump and think and talk like him, immediately started looking for scapegoats for their failure! So, instead of trying to pretend that the US and the west haven't failed spectacularly to gain control of the virus, and instead say it's all the fault of a foreign government that will be our biggest regime change project yet! So, in conclusion, the real experts, who are not politically motivated and understand the subject material determine that what is known of the development and progression of this virus indicates that IT WAS NOT LIKELY to have been created in a lab! Unless Mother Nature is the genetic engineer....seeking ways to eliminate a troublesome species that over-extends and over-consumes its share of resources!1 point

Actually, no. I didn't say he'll be doing anything. I said he wants to get back to normal, daily, and therefore he's clearly upset about it all. Why? Because this virus has destroyed his #1 reelection element; Great Economy! You said he doesn't seem so upset ---which made me ask which Trump were you watching recently?--- because he has made it clear that he's upset. And his being upset has not (publicly!) been about how COVID 19 is mainly killing the people who vote the Conservative Republican ticket each election.1 point
