August1991
I know a guy, 50 years old, born in Canada around 1970, now on "disability" CPP - he receives $1200/month - living well in Asia. I know a woman, born abroad, who chose to live in Canada, simply to be here - to get a Cdn passport. ====== What is a "Canadian citizen"? Queenmandy85
Anyone who: a. was born in Canada b. passes the criteria for citizenship according to law, and swears to bear true allegiance to Her Majesty the Queen of Canada and her Heirs and successors. c. there are other circumstances regarding parents being Canadian but you should consult with a legal professional for details. I'm just a simple potter. Edited December 5, 2020 by Queenmandy85 2 Quote A friend will help you move. A good friend will help you move a body. Guest
I'm a Canadian citizen. I got my first passport in 1987 and I still want Great Britain to get more medals than Canada at the Olympics. I would want England to beat Canada at ice hockey, too. National identity is a weird thing. You don't get to choose it. I do appreciate all the space though. Canada is not governed nor has any legal connection in any way whatsoever to the British Crown. Our Crown is called the Canadian Crown, and our Queen's official title is "Queen of Canada". Don't worry, you're not a British subject. 1 1 Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect. You abuse all of the rights and privileges of citizenship for selfish gain while spitting on the main responsibility we ask of you: allegiance. You would not be a Canadian citizen if were Prime Minister. All of the rats would be exposed in writing and for the public to view. Nobody would get a passport or a vote without swearing true allegiance to Canada and denouncing all foreign loyalties and allegiances each and every time. All foreign citizenships would be revoked. Maybe one day the rats would be exposed, and the liars of the oath jailed as traitors or else kicked out. Count yourself lucky that most of our politicians are far more cowardly than I. Carry your passport well, it is property of the Queen you disavow. Long live the Queen of Canada. Argus
If you want to become a citizen in Switzerland you need to immigrate legally and then be a resident for ten years first. In Canada it's three of the last five years. So you can be bouncing back and forth, and do not have to make a commitment to live here permanently. And by the way, we don't keep track of people when they leave. So we'll trust your word. Which means, particularly with Chinese who simply want the passport as a kind of backup, as a just-in-case escape, that they'll send in the paperwork, show up (we do record when you arrive), and then leave for 'home' again. Three years later, after claiming you were here the whole time, you get your citizenship, can get your passport, and then file it away in your desk drawer 'just in case'. Companies like Marcus' will help you out with that. "I don't LIKE the royals" says the teenager as he sucks on a vape... and when he votes that will be the criteria he uses - eschewing any kind of analysis of economic, traditional, political or cultural costs/benefits. These are the adults of today (and I used a 'figurative' not a literal teenager in my example). And this is why I call myself a conservative. Conservative traditions and values allow for acknowledgment of trade-offs, sacrifice, and the value of our traditions. "I don't like Trudeau" "I don't like the Queen" "I don't like socialists" "I don't like racists" turns serious discussion into consumer choice, where every difficult decision becomes the Pepsi challenge. We can't take the vote away from these people, so we should insulate them into their own hives and seal them off. 2 1 Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner
