Who won the debate?
impartialobserver replied to Rebound's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Modern day politics is like this. Party X supporter when Party Y candidate is President: He is a dictator. He is running this country into the ground Party Y supporter when Party X candidate is President: He is a dictator. He is running this country into the ground -
AOC Calling For Violence
impartialobserver replied to gatomontes99's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Politicians use words such as fight, battle, conflict, war. etc. but do not actually want their supporters to engage in a violent, armed conflict. It is also interesting how politicos decide when to be so literal and when not be. Its like they are cherry picking.. nahh.. that can't be. -
I watched Jon Stewart last night and even he was making fun of Biden's feebleness. This is a failure of the American people though.. Why do we have these two uninspiring candidates? Because Americans like known, predictable, consistent and are not willing to take a chance on new, different, or gasp... innovative. Plenty of GOP candidates could do a better job than Trump and would be 20 to 30 years younger.

When you teach a kid about amphibians, you are not trying to have them become frogs. If you teach them about the USSR, you are not brainwashing them into being communists. Having a pride flag at your institution does not make them gay. Acknowledging existence of a minority group and saying that they are ok is not a crime. Having the 10 commandments up on a wall but not teaching the Bible is of similar benign-ness (not sure if that is a word).

:"bloodshed"... a bit hyperbolic, eh. Not sure where this bloody, armed revolution that you allude to was.

if I was in control (which I know that I am not), I would mandate that each cabinet dept decrease its budget by 1% each year for the next 10. If they can't find a way to get their budgets down.. then a 3rd party will be brought into help you and this time, the budget cuts will be 3% for a given year. Have long held that the problem is spending not revenue.

Forcing Women to Register for Draft
impartialobserver replied to User's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I would oppose such a policy if i were voting on this topic. A few things.. the need to expand the pool of potential draftees is at present unnecessary. If the time came.. we have enough able bodied males who could be pressed into service. Women, if they are so inclined, could enlist and would provide value. Physical strength does not win every battle. Sometimes, you need intellect... -
maybe unrelated but LA has seen a declining population (https://www.nola.com/news/politics/louisiana-population-falls-in-cities-rural-areas-data-show/article_72e326a2-e231-11ee-bcc8-43800939b6fc.html#:~:text=Louisiana saw its population shrink, were spread throughout the state.). Additionally according to QCEW for 2023 q4 in comparison to 2020 q1.. they are losing jobs. If this is their attempt to stop the population decline and recruit folks to their state.. my guess is that it fails to do so.

The Debate Tonight
impartialobserver replied to gatomontes99's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I can think of at least one million better ways to spend my time tonight rather than watching this debate. I know the candidates well and their positions. No new information is going to be gleaned. -
If Trump loses in 2024 (Which I do not predict happening)... I think that we will see another "Stop the Steal"-esque march in Washington D.C. or possibly other places. As for Trump stopping the shutdowns.. he was powerless. He could not stop the respective state governors from enacting the policies. The economy would have tanked no matter who was in office in april 2020. The only difference would have been the messaging.
