  1. You must be drunk. I stated now 3 times that I have zero issue with it being there. I am free to ignore it and do so.
  2. can you bother to read just a little better. First, it was an example. Second, I state twice that I simply ignored it and left it be.
  3. Yes, temps have gone up in some places. As to why? That is the question. I have yet to read anything that explains this in a satisfactory way. I can read academic articles and not get confused. I wrote a few of them back in the day.
  4. Besides, Clark's rivalry with Angel reese can only serve to drive up interest. True, Clark refuses to really play along with the socioeconomic narrative and that's good. For the casual fan.. you need more than basketball to get them interested. I would gladly watch Toronto vs. Charlotte in the NBA on a given day.. just because. The non-sports context does not drive me to watch it.
  5. LOL. It does take two to tango. You can only have conflict if there are at least two parties.
  6. It is on private property but as someone with an open mind.. I simply ignored it and led a fine existence. A few groups tried to sue and have it removed. It failed thankfully (notice that?)
  7. My guess is no but then you do not have to look at it. In my hometown of Boise, Idaho.. there is a large cross on a plateau northeast of town. I am a lifelong atheist.. should I be able to remove that? Or can I simple ignore it and move on.
  8. Hoping to one day visit Labrador, Newfoundland, and New Brunswick. Mainly because it seems to be the polar opposite of where I have always lived.. the high desert of Southern Idaho/Eastern Oregon/Nevada.
  9. not sure how having a legal parade is giving anyone special treatment. The conservative groups could apply for the permit and would receive them. Would their parade be as well attended? Probably not. But that is a whole other ball of wax. None of which you can blame on government. If you do not like the gay pride parade.. then simply do not attend it. Seems pretty simple to me.
  10. The second issue that comes into play is NIMBY-ism. Ok, so you cut off the SNAP and TANF funds.. awesome. What happens next? Increased homelessness, crime ticks up, folks leave your state (Arkansas as the prime example), and your economic metrics go down (GDP, taxable sales, jobs). In the long term, they recover. However, in the short term the politicians are cowardly. They created this temporary pain but are not willing to take the blame for these negative metrics. We can't have any downturns.... no way. We have to have predictable, steady increases in the metrics. Downturns (even if it is really a necessary correction) is a sign of "poor leadership" by armchair experts. They value their jobs and so keep kicking the proverbial can down the road.
  11. So in short the actions of a few made you think that this represents the whole. When pressed with evidence about how the children were not being touched nor were the stories sexually explicit.. the protesters complained that they were being brainwashed. Brainwashing demands a lot longer than 15 minutes and when the kids are mostly bored out of their skulls.. that is some pi$$ poor brainwashing.
  12. You are free to believe that is some grand social engineering plan but being someone who has helped design some of these programs.. it is mostly pure pragmatism. There is a problem and the folks involved want a short term solution. Short term involves money.. like it or not. When you play the long game, folks get impatient and want some sort of quantifiable metric that is predictable.. and that is hard to do.
  13. So then what is your explanation as to why these story hours began in 2012 with zero protesters. They were somewhat well attended and there was no militancy. The protests (at least in my neck of the woods) came on in 2023.
  14. interesting topic. From what I have read.. it seems strange for Newfoundland to want to become an independent nation.
  15. I am probably the biggest sports fan on this forum. Especially when it comes to basketball. I have watched one of her games and she was hardly dominant.. but she is a rookie. Also, they played 11 games in 15 days. That is hard for anybody let alone someone just getting accustomed to the faster pace of the WNBA. Statistically.. she is only in the top 5 in one category; assists. Her team is not doing well. Dominant players help their teams win, ie Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetekounpo, etc. So lets ease up and give her time. This time next year, I bet that her team is doing better and she figures out the nuances of winning basketball.
  16. as to how someone gets out of poverty.. social programs help but are not a one-size-fits-all solution. Being someone who was raised poor and stayed poor much into their 20's.. it goes beyond simply having extra money/resources. A lot of times, you have to change the mindset of the person. All in all.. humans are complex and a myriad of factors go into it.
  17. Tall and short... are not the same as thin/obese. Been on the interview panel for the last 5 new hires.. 4 males vs. 1 female. 3 were fairly short and 2 somewhat tall. What was the main selling point? Ability to learn new things. That was what got me this job. Self taught myself SQL in the 2 weeks between the application and interview. Being short does have a few advantages.. 1. I do not feel cramped on an airplane and 2. feet never hang off the end of a bed.
  18. I was referring as to why we have drag queen story hour and not disabled person story hour.
  19. Well then good thing that I loathe sales jobs and never tried to get one. At my current job.. physical stature means absolutely nothing. Ability to decipher computer code and being tall are not in any way connected.
  20. Twice, it has been for auxiliary purposes.. the drag queen story simply being in the same vicinity. My wife feels its important to acknowledge and accept the minority groups such as lgbtq, blacks, drag queens, etc. and so we go to support her. If there was a disabled story hour, we might go. As to why they do not have one... not sure. It is probably not nearly as interesting as your conspiratorial minds pretends it to be.
  21. Honestly do not know the purpose. But your insinuation that they are molesting/assualting the kids or reading books to them that are overtly sexual is not based in fact. I have seen 5 or 6 times and nothing even close to that happens. My kids find it boring. So in short, you cant answer why they were attended by mostly liberals starting in 2012 when there was no one to provoke.. typical internet forum poster.
  22. A bit obsessed are we? You think the only reason is to give the middle finger to someone. Then answer this.. why were they well attended before there was any of the controversy? At least they were in my neck of the woods. The conservatives protesters only started last year.. if you are keeping tabs, it began in 2012.
  23. The next installment in this saga is coming soon. Arizona is going to fight this one tooth and nail. It appears that the agreed upon allocations are a bit too generous. They do grow a lot of food in Yuma, AZ but they need to put in place a ban on ornamental front lawns like they did in Las Vegas.
