Off-shore wind farms harm the earth's natural weather patterns and also interfere with ocean creatures, particularly whales. The blades kill untold millions of birds every year. The energy produced by them is intermittent, so backup fossil fuels are needed. Unless you're okay with your grama freezing to death when it's -45. Commercial fishing harms the environment. Forestry and pulp mills harm the environment. Agriculture harms the environment with fertilizers and pesticides. All industry harms the environment. Auto manufacturing harms the environment and fossil fuels are needed for that industry. I bet you are against coal mining, yes? You would be one of the people protesting the coal mine right now, in Alberta. You likely don't know that the coal mine being protested is for a special kind of coal - metallurgical coal that is necessary for steel production - which you are likely against the steel industry as well. So if your criteria for rejecting an industry is based on it harms the environment, you most decidedly ARE anti-industry. I'd agree that Trump is transactional, but have trouble seeing him as a pragmatist. A pragmatist is by its definition someone who is practical and evaluates situations whereas Trump appears to be a guy who is most influenced by the last person he speaks with. You would know better than I but the impression I had leaving the election was that the domestic issues of inflation and immigration were the clear voter concerns and his mandate, not 'America first' and foreign policy. It's probably fair to say that so far he's addressed neither with increasing the cost of living and a failed foreign policy that will have an impact the US and once steadfast allies for decades. Just the fact that climate change itself costs you and I ~$700 annually creates hardship for some doesn't it? I look at it differently.... I'm on the back 9 of life and in the grand scheme of things I'm only here for a little while longer (and that's hopefully a few more decades). I will gladly pay and/or pay more in hidden or direct taxes for our transition away from fossil fuels. My children and grandchildren and their evolving families will be around for countless years longer than I'll be here and I'd certainly hope they can live in world that hasn't destroyed itself because of the fear of cost associated with making our world cleaner. If we don't spend now we'll be paying a hell of a lot more later... Regardless of what we hear from Trump and his denials, the positive is that global investment in clean and renewable energy is give or take double that of conventional fossil fuel investment, so we're on the right track.
