Yesterday, in the midst of watching a seditious mob casually walk past an unprepared capitol hill police force, I came across a brilliant tweet: After spending the 20th century undermining democratically elected governments that commit the unforgivable crime of failing to be sufficiently deferential to US business interests, the US became a snake trying to devour it's own tail. Much attention was paid to Trump and his gang of sycophants. However, Trumpism is only marginally about Trump. For decades, across the western world, right wing ideologues (starting with Reagan and Thatcher) have been trashing anything remotely resembling collective action. Governments have been discredited (conservatives are people who are so convinced governments are incompetent, they elect people who will prove them right) and taxes slashed. The predictable results have been a diminished sense of individual security as wages stagnated; and healthcare and education retreated towards their traditional roles of being the exclusive preserve of the wealthy. Even among people doing relatively well, there is a heightened sense of precariousness as these days, anyone can lose their livelihood overnight. Nowhere is this more pronounced than in the US, where education and healthcare are most expensive, worker protections are weakest and corruption is rampant. Having been thoroughly inculcated with anti-government ideology, conservatives looked for others to blame for their problems and Trump supplied them with plenty of others - immigrants, Muslims, the media, and, most of all, Democrats. Hyped up on conspiracy theories, people will now automatically discredit anything that comes from "official" sources and believe whatever they find on the internet that confirms their beliefs. Many people assume that things will be OK as soon as Trump is out of office but this is far from evident. Seventy-five million lost souls voted for an evidently delusional, lifelong-crooked failed businessman who has never taken responsibility for anything. Those people will still be there once Trump leaves.3 points

China is a major threat to our economy and national security. The Canadian government should have taken steps to curb the CCP's activities within our borders yet they continue to fail badly in this area. Government agencies were provided with a database of over 1.95 millions CCP members working abroad with their sole purpose being to steal technologies and intellectual property. The USA has taken a strong stand against the CCP yet our elected officials refuse to do anything about it, instead standing by until something happens. When "the shit hits the fan", they respond with diplomacy instead of taking actions to avoid problems first.2 points

The Republican Governor of Maryland says that a congressman from his state called and begged for assistance. He had troops ready to help assist but needed Federal Authorization. After an hour he finally got a call. Not from POTUS, Not from the VEEP, Not from the Secretary of Defence. . . The Secretary of the Army finally asked for help almost 2 hours later!!!!! Trump allowed this to happen and was happy about about it. https://www.baltimoresun.com/politics/bs-md-pol-hogan-capitol-20210107-7gjx3ksoqrhmrixhqr7zz2byom-story.html2 points

Americans do have the right attitude. Donald Trump has been hard on China, unlike Sleepy Joe who's said China is America's allie. Trudeau's been soft on China - we need a government that takes a hard stand on countries like China that have horrible human rights issues and whose agenda is to wreak havoc on the world's ecomonies. China has been working to dominate the world economy and has accomplished exactly that by unleashing the CCP virus and then concealing its existence from the world, although temporarily, then blaming the USA for its incarnation. Yet, it's been reported that the Canada Pension Plan is still pouring our federal pension funds into the Chinese market, largely controlled by the CCP. Furthermore, the are doing so with the full knowledge that Chinese law prohibits foreign oversight of the reporting by the Chinese companies. What does that mean? These Chinese companies can report whatever looks favourable to the CCP and they don't have to be transparent whatsoever. A lot of people hate Donald Trump, however he has been the only President of the USA that's been hard on China, realizing that they are the greatest threat to world economies and national security. Under his leadership, the US has passed the Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act in December 2020 which forces Chinese companies listed on US stock exchanges (ie Alibaba) to open their audit books to US regulators or be delisted from these exchanges. In contrast, our current Liberal government doesn't appear to recognize the existing and future threats to our economy and national security by the Communist Chinese regime. I woudn't put it past the Biden administration to overturn the new Act passed in December 2020 but that's another story. I encourage all Canadians to stand up and contact their federal MPs to put a halt to the practise of investing our future retirement CCP funds in the Chinese economy. The Canada Pension Plan has so far invested over $15 billion with plans to increase those investments by 20%. If the USA can have a tough stance when it comes to dealing with China, our elected Prime Minister should be taking just a hard a stand in its dealings with them. China is the biggest threat to the world. The CCP has millions of its membership infiltrating government agencies and public corporations in its efforts to steal our technology and intellectual property. Yet our government seems to be reactive instead of being proactive. We need a leader who stands tough against Communism, not invest in it.1 point

Whatever there was when Bush took over, it wasn't a large country Beave, and you know that but you are too much of a liar and Obama sycophant to admit it. Follow the numbers Beave... They go, "1, 2, 3, 4", from top to bottom. FYI: 1) when Bush left office there was no country known as islamic state, there was an unstable Iraq which was being successfully propped by US troops (albeit at the cost of many casualties) and a stable Syria, 2) by Obama's own words, islamic state was "just a Jr Varsity terrorist squad" when he took office, 3) islamic state grew to be one of the 100 largest COUNTRIES on earth while Obama was POTUS, 4) by Obama's estimate it would take 5 years to get islamic state off the map. In summary: islamic state was officially a Jr Varisty terrorist squad in Nov 2008, islamic state became one of the largest 100 countries in the world and they grabeed 100% of that land mass during the Obi-wrong Presidency, islamic state was on pace to remain a nation for 5 years under Obi-wrong's plan, but Trump had them whipped like dogs after 3 months and almost entirely wiped off the map within 6 months. IE, islamic state for all intents and purposes was really just a thing under Obama. 0 minutes before his Presidency and a few short months after his Presidency. And further to another idiotic post that you had above, questioning what Trump did to stop terrorism in the US and abroad... - Trump filled Iraq and Syria with islamic state corpses and created a new world where no one puffs out their chest and says "I'm the leader of this terrorist group!" by killing all of their leaders, including Suleimani. When there isn't anyone bold enough to crow, there are far less people willing to 'follow'. History is rife with armies and mobs that vanished when their leaders fell. It's the norm. Bite the head off the snake. Don't worry Beave, you'll see soon enough what foolish & feckless leadership can do to prop up your enemies once Biden is at the helm. The contrast will be stark and very unfortunate for a lot of decent, innocent, freedom-loving people. You'll get your chance to repeat the leftist mantra: "It's too early to say whether or not islamic terrorism was to blame, this van/bomb attack is just a gun control issue right now" over and over again.1 point

What I am saying is, you are not capable of agreeing that the sky is blue if someone of opposite political views from yours says its blue. In your Romney comments above, a simple observation was made by Shady. In response you went off on a trump rant. There are a few of you odd fellows on this forum and it's too bad your goals and motivation is to spark arguments when a simple nod is obviously the correct response.1 point

What Maxine Waters did there was actual "Inciting." When Progs tell me trump "incited" the riot in the Capitol Building I say to them show me something like any of this from Democrats that actually is "inciting": They can't, of course, so what they do is just repeat over and over again that Trump incited violence louder and louder with out providing a quote or any real evidence of it. It's supposed to wear you down and they have the fake news behind them so it kind of does to most.1 point
-
Is it me or the Leftists are so insane that they really think it's worse to attack a Capitol than to murder several dozens of citizens in the streets and pillaging small businesses? Why are they surprised, when they for example, Maxine Waters calls to harass Republicans in the street and in the restaurants, that there would be backlash?1 point

That too. Everything Trump said was intended to overturn the result of an election that had been verified by officials, Democrat and Republican in every state after multiple recounts in several states, as well as scores of court decisions up to and including the SCOTUS.1 point

Socialism with a capitalist twist as well. There lies a crucial difference between the two regimes. Hitler supported private ownership and the great companies of Germany as long as they served his purposes. One relevant lesson from Nazi Germany here, and something we should bear in mind when dealing with Xi and the gang, is that capitalism and totalitarianism are not incompatible.1 point

Isn't that nice? He decided his own fate and punishment back in July 2020. Now let's take him to Guantanamo where he can be politely interrogated about his Russian connection and tax evasion. Then he can serve the rest of his sentence in a cell with a big black guy. Of course , no Twitter or Facebook to make his new complaints public as his accounts have already been suspended. What a joke of a president this guy is; an ebarrassment for all who voted him in.1 point

Judging by recent events, communism is far from dead. The Russian bear is just playing dead till you come close enough. Get it? Reverse whammy. Speaking of China, Bill Blair sent a letter to MPs a few weeks ago detailing China's interference in Canada. Although Blair’s letter mentioned Russia and North Korea, it was most concerned with China’s hostile activities, including the exploitation of so-called talent programs to acquire sensitive technology and knowledge. “In addition, foreign states, including the PRC [Peoples Republic of China], attempt to threaten and intimidate individuals around the world, including in Canada, through various state entities and non-state proxies,” Blair wrote. Such tactics are portrayed as a fight against crime and corruption, he said. “However, we are aware that these tactics can also be used as cover for silencing dissent, including on university campuses, pressuring political opponents and instilling general fear of state power, no matter where a person is located,” the letter said. https://globalnews.ca/news/7558284/public-safety-minister-chinas-foreign-interference-letter/?fbclid=IwAR1RGxhceNbSvl4oULkJdVQboF0JPdbjC1IUdCoEQQ5u7KA-0UYbD6mqXu01 point

We don't need to lower our standards in order to appease low standards around the world. Manufacturing jobs are going to be obsolete anyway, as automation is taking over. Canada should continue to promote high skilled workers and fight harder to bring in high skilled workers from around the world. We will reach a point where manufacturing plants will only have engineers and technicians, sitting behind computers, making sure that the robots are doing their jobs. We must embrace technology and the emerging markets and industries, instead of trying to hold onto dying ones.1 point

Much of Canada's history is inextricably bound up with Great Britain. That is why, I believe, the Liberals (and liberals) set out to diminish it, to teach as little about it as possible. The Liberals (and liberals) didn't want a reminder of our position as a colony and then a sort of junior partner to the British. What history was taught focused on the natives, and on the exploration period - Champlain, Jacques Cartier, etc. Almost everything after the French surrendered disappeared from the history books in schools sometimes in the late sixties or early seventies. And so we get another Trudeau telling us Canada has no core identity (except for Quebec, of course). If so it's because he and his father and the Liberals (and liberals) have done their best to rob us of one.1 point
