Oh no, a guy named Bob who I met in the grocery store agrees with me and disagrees with you.

BOOM!

Just like that, you are wrong!

Well if it's any consolation your opinions are worth a mint.

Researchers all over the world are trying to figure out how a brain gets that twisted and would pay to get their hands on some direct research :)

Oh FFS what the hell you talking about?
You didn't see a single newsfeed on what Carney said yesterday?

I said the American Age is over, not him. He just mentioned the reasons why.
Trump wants them to stick their heads up their arses and abandon every goal and commitment made in the last 80 tears.

And you believe that? Interesting.

So the carney does exactly what Trump wants...issues a nonsensical explanation for his capitulation...and you swallow it whole.

How...docile of you.

That's not 'interesting', it's pitiful.

Cute but nonsense. Your Elbows Up hero is nothing more than a classic "yes-man". Trump is dictating the carney's leadership.

And you bought his chickenshit.

Well done Goofy.

Just to clarify, we sent all we could to Afghanistan, at the peak it was 2 battle groups, for those of you who don't know what a battle group is...it is 2000 to 3000 personal...or half a brigade group....and we could not sustain that for long...so for the most part it was one small battle group....and we struggled to meet those commitments...and that came at a cost , with some soldiers doing 8 tours out of the 13 years we were there with the average soldier doing at least 3 to 4...and todays army is what is the result of those deployments...

So yes we did show up, we contributed the very minimum we could, and Canadian soldiers paid the price while our government and citizens conveniently forgot about us....

What a thread.

AG, some 100 soldiers died in Afghanistan. For what?

Chretien kept us out of Iraq. Pearson kept us out of Vietnam. St-Laurent sent us to Korea. Diefenbaker maintained our embassy in Havana.

====

If the question is whether Canadians will show up when it matters, as an Australian PM said, we show up when it matters.

Actually 159 and 7 civilians died , along with an additional 360 deaths do to suicide attributed to that conflict....it goes to show that even though our government and military was unprepared for ANY conflict of that time, and is worse off right now, they were sent anyways....

Carney signs onto a new defensive pact with the EU, and while they prepare for WAR , we still have our pants down around our ankles with out junk hanging out...we are talking , it is what Canada does best, what our military does best is perform miracles with nothing...wears a nation prefer to bury our soldiers, than give them state of the art equipment that saves lives...Something Canadians take pride in...even joke about....

We always show up is the point, regardless of how we are equipped, or trained....your a history buff, what did our military look like at the beginning of WWI or WWII, or Korea... thousands of Canadian lives were lost due to this unpreparedness...it took years to catch up...and many lives...The next conflict will be fought by our sons and daughters, forced to man obsolete equipment and knowing all of this Canadians don't give a shit or we are not smart enough to understand what is going on in the world, what are we worried about, more social programs, and what can our government do for them..........and if they did we would not be in this situation....

Mark Carney has just announced that Canada will reach it's 2% of GDP spending on the military by March.
He also pointed out that this is not due to NATO pressure, it is due on the fact that the USA is no longer a dependable military ally.

BTW 2/3 of Canadians have said F Off to the Orange Overlord's Golden Dome fever dream. Might have to do with we heard that song before. that it is a ridiculous price being asked of us, or the fact that 40 years later we still remember that putting weapons in space is a BAD idea.

To reach that 2% goal Carney is just going to borrow more money to pay for it, and increase the deficit even more than what it is.  That’s not sustainable.

You know it, I know it, but many still want it. The 5% goal is absurd, we shouldn't even try.

It's Trump's Country Club and he sets the fees. Or we can recognize it is no longer and he can take his ball and go home.

So, in this war in Afghanistan, Canada lost some 500 people?

We lost many, many more in the so-called "Great War". (You know, Vimy Ridge. Our green $20 money.)

For what?

Let's avoid all this. Let's get along.

1) you just quoted Carney unironically. You're clearly more retarded than I thought.

2) Carney's quote was f'ing stupid:

  • what's the point of hitting a target of 2% if not because of their NATO obligation? Isn't it a little bit random to use that number as a target if not because of our NATO obligation?
  • we all know that Trump told NATO allies to hit that target, so Carney is following Trump's order - AGAIN - and just acting like it was his own idea. Carney's a skinny guy in prison saying "I wanted to get pounded from behind by that gang"
  • if the USA ceased to be our ally, us spending 2% on defence would be completely meaningless. That wouldn't be enough to prevent Russia, China, NoKo, or a dozen other countries from taking us over if they wanted to.

BTW 2/3 of Canadians have said F Off to the Orange Overlord's Golden Dome fever dream.

Where do you get your information from, f-tard?

I don't doubt that Canadians don't want to join America, especially not the way Trump envisions it, but stop pretending to know an exact percentage. You have no clue. We don't have a reliable source for information that accurate.

Not sure what that even means, did we have to lose more for it to be significant ? or to be worth your time...in a few years those men and women who sacrificed everything will be forgotten....Shit you can't even remember what the Afghanistan war was about....don't take it personally most Canadians could not tell what the conflict was about, or for that matter what any of the conflicts have been about...

If you don't know what for, it was all a moot point was it...and history will be doomed to repeat itself....Canada has done it for every major conflict we have been in, and still has not learned anything from any of them...

"nobody" gets along thats the point, every since cavemen picked up a club Humans have been solving their problems with violence....

Then Canada should stop signing agreements it can not afford or maintain....it is really that easy....drop out and start paying for everything we need to defend ourselves....and to top it off the liberals just signed on to a new defensive agreement with the EU........we rode the last ride for free....nobody gave a shit...the new 5% mark is going to have consequences if we don't meet it...

Me, i have have kids in our military, who grew up with much different moral/ values than the average Canadian...that defending this nation and sacrificing for it use to mean something....and i do worry about their future...as for me i'm to jaded now to care...

Most Canadians don't know conflict, there is no left or right in conflict, Canadians are so divided that all we do is argue with each other there is no nation with one people with one direction....we lack leadership, and what little leadership we do have is weak, and wants to divide us more than every....we are being pulled apart by special interest groups of every strip, so much so that we are being pulled in dozens of directions with limited resources....Our nation is dying, it has no purpose, it has no direction, and we will pull it apart....sooner than later....It needs common sense to come back to the people...it needs to regroup , reorg and start from scratch....or die and become these little pieces that will be absorbed by the US...

Strongly disagree.

For centuries, we Canadians get along.

And Europeans got along between 1815 - 1914.

@mods, this thread title is misleading.

Honestly, I just fail to see the connection between "Carney saying that he's going to raise Canada's defence budget" and "The Age of America is Over." Is it one of those "If a butterfly flaps its wings..." things?

Again why would our PM sign onto the document agreeing to make those lofty goals if it had no intention of making those payments....i mean our international reputation is already in the dumpster, and we have proven time and time again we are unreliable allied, that does pull it's weight, and to top all of that off, Carney just signed on to a EU defensive pact, which will cost more ....not only is it a promise to NATO that YES we are a trusted allied, but he also promised Canadians that he will follow through, we have sat on the side lines to long now........Don't like it run for office and change it...just don't do it as a NDP candidate you'll be disappointed...

Actually it is not trump's country club, the US is tired of paying most of the bills and this new amendment has been approved by ALL NATO countries, and we signed on to it.....with exception of Spain which gets a discount.... If the US takes it ball and goes home who is going to fill the massive cracks in NATO...Americans are sick of paying the bulk of the bills and Americans would love to have some of our social programs we enjoy here in Canada...but can't....time for Canada to step up and take its place on the world stage....or STFU forever.
