I did PM to ask a question, and didn't hear back so I'll ask here:

If a poster has a history of making exaggerated claims, can one not bring that up respectfully ?  I pointed out that a poster has claimed in the past that Ontario tried to implement Sharia law and was admonished for doing so.  Can we not respond to false claims in this way ?  Asking for myself.

The forum rules are so simple. What part of "Do not attack the poster" do you not understand?

Agreed....play the ball...not the posting member, regardless of claims made.

No.  Send the member a PM instead.

The topic of the thread is not "The History of PosterX Making Exaggerated Claims" and there is no sub-forum for such.

Understood boss. Find ways to get the point across without the childish part.

Clarity trumps authority.

You are right.  It is a different kind of troll.  We could add:  "Please do not post comments to entice folks to post comments that are only meant to annoy other folks who happen to be in a different forum." to the rules but we all know better.  The way I see things "Be polite and respect others." is clear enough.

cross-trolling: (verb) undefined

I aint saying you are culpable of such.  Those who engaged in the bad comedy here know who they are and would do well to keep quiet.

Sorry for derailing your thread, Argus.  Alas, we have unearthed "A different kind of troll" indeed but I doubt you were seeking that.  Regardless, we still have the same old tools as before: delete, suspend or the ban hammer.  Let us know what you want.

We do not have time for a meeting of the flat earth society.

@Charles Anthony   There have been some silly "rulings" on this forum, but this might be the dumbest one yet!

What's past statements on past issues got to do with it?

Let's do you as an example: you've lied in one of your replies to me - should I bring that up every time you post something?

Deal with the message.

It's not silly if you are facing a choice between 'freedom of expression' or 'quality of poster' and you choose the former over the latter.

If you want to come on here and lie about 9/11 conspiracies continuously, and be continuously shown as lacking healthy information, no one can point that out when you start a new thread about the dangers of bigfoot.  So we have persistent liars given a 'safe space', and quality posters having an ever-increasing 'ignore' list.

Self described quality poster with the self proclaimed largest ignore list of well, moronic posters.

I concur with MH.  I have put a bunch on my ignore list, too, because they seem completely unable to engage in any critical thinking.   Mostly they are the "Don't trust the MSM" types, because they somehow think that being gullible and accepting completely shit stories because it's "not MSM" makes them smarter than anyone else.   These people tend to choose emotional clickbait news stories to inform their world view, and disregard facts and evidence that contradict the basis for their feel-mad emotions.   There are also those who are one-trick pony types, clearly trolls bent on simply getting a reaction.

You can call it 'delusions of grandeur' all you want; I call it cutting out the noise.

Fair enough. Which is the purpose of the other forum, isn't it? I call it circle jerk or echo chamber but cutting out noise works.

I don't have an ignore list. If I did I  certainly wouldn't be proud of stating how many people's opinions I would refuse to listen to while at the same time calling them names.

I wonder how many ignore lists I am on lol.

The problem is not ignore lists. The problem is how many intelligent sane people come here, see the drek, shake their heads, and go away.

The other forum has dissenting views, both right wing and left wing posters. It has a lot less name-calling, sneering and general rudeness.

Well....I don't think so.

Look at these posters who'd apparently left and formed another forum because of that, and yet here they are!  They've slinked back!   They couldn't keep away.  With its warts and all - obviously they like it here!

Let me ask you:  how many newly recruited members are actively participating in your  other forum that's peopled by so-called "quality," "intelligent, and "good"" posters?   How many sign-ups (not counting the friends that's been recruited)?

At least here, people are still signing up (even though they aren't participating).....even without those "intelligent" posters here.  Their absence did squat!

If MLF  still gets sign-ups - obviously, something about this forum makes new members sign up.  This forum  holds some sort of allure........and the allure ain't the ones who'd left.  Obviously.

That site won't last long, either.  Just a prediction.

It's a no-brainer.  How many times have you posted there today, Squid?  When was the last time you posted over there?

Yet here you are wasting your time posting here, instead of posting up a storm over there! :D

Or....maybe you aren't giving any prediction at all. You're speaking from experience.  That explains it.

You got booted out for being a troll! smiley.gif
