A different kind of troll

So I've been reading about the latest down south with regard to Russia's attempt at influencing world politics.  It occurs to me that we have, of late, gotten a number of very shrill new members with political views which are intrinsically hostile to that of the US and the West, and the question naturally occurs - are any of them based in Russia, and would the people running this web site be able to tell if they were?

The web brigades (Russian: Веб-бригады), also known in English media as the Russia's troll army,^[1] are state-sponsored anonymous Internet political commentators and trolls linked to the Russian government. This is a pretty small forum.  I think FB, reddit, twitter and sites with a lot of commentators would serve them better.

Internet trolls? This is all the electoral interference it takes to unhinge the US?

Seems a little over-sensitive in the face of some of the things the US has done when it interferes in the election of another country's government. Heck, it'll go right in and overthrow it when it suits.

According to statements from US intelligence the Russians have over 15,000 people posting fake news and conspiracy theories and nasty information about Clinton on all kinds of social media and forums. Why would they not do the same here, and how many political discussion forums do you think there are in Canada?

You could be right, I just doubt it.  There's only maybe 30 of us who post here regularly, right?   Pretty sure any Canadian Reddit forum or almost any remotely controversial FB post by Huff Post or Al-Jazeera gets a lot more commentators.   Why waste time on 30 people, some of whom are already on your side, when you can contact hundreds at a time elsewhere?

But hey, that's only my opinion and I have no proof, so as I say - you may be right.

A more important question arises - why aren't Russians and others welcomed, why would anyone from the bastions of free speech want to exclude anyone from partaking in this divine blessing bestowed on the world?

History textbooks, 500 years hence:

The early 21st Century era is called 'The Death of Rational' in the Western world.  Advanced societies had ceased teaching critical thinking skills and created a pervasive media that was not required to present factual news.   The result was polarization of views, conspiracy theories run amok, and confused people entrenched their views rather than listening, compromising and cooperating.  Internet wars-of-words turned to wars-on-the-street, and spread to regions and countries.  Left vs. right, Elitists vs. Deplorables, White Nationalists vs. Social Justice Warriors; each faction grouped together in communities, cities, regions and waged war on other communities, cities and regions.  This disintegration of Western society from the period of 2001 to 2058 led to the weakening of political organization and resulted in provinces and states seceding from their countries; this provided an opening for an allied Asian and Moslem initiative to take over the financial system and the social/political system.  Financial control from Asia and military intervention from Moslem leaders quickly brought the warring factions to heel.

2058?  Sadly, I should be done by then.  I'll miss the opportunity to use the Benelli for something other than trap.

This is why moderation is necessary at some point, folks. It's one thing to allow some leeway but there has to be a limit. The style of moderation in this forum swings from one extreme to another, which I suspect is not really the fault of the mods.

Moderation is needed, but action also needs to be taken and apply the rules consistently across the board. Some boards kill trolls right away, some boards (like this one) welcomes them.

It's not nonsense Greg. 

It may not be accepted, but little action is taken on it.  But if you think I am trolling you,  that might give you an understanding about how others post on here. The inability to deal with it results in stuff like the following threads...

When I see capricorn and bcsapper getting suspensions and bans and warnings, while they each post pertinent comments on threads, and at the same time a couple of others post nothing but insults and take over every topic to suit their anti-Western agendas and never receive any kind of warning, Yes, I agree with GostHacked.  We can't discuss any topic here without HE busting it up with his anti-US nonsense.  And Altai is the biggest troll I've ever seen on an internet forum.  There is something seriously not right with that one.
