I am pretty sure that you can find plenty of interesting news stories to talk about that goes on in America besides Trump. Chicago would be a great place to start. Even Trump is concerned about Chicago and all the killings going on in that city. Trump has even said that if mayor Rahm Emanueal doesn't do something soon about crime Trump says that he will do something about it, and will send in the National guard if need be. How is that for a news story?

That would be a local news story. I am aware of the problems there. Some of my family live outside Detroit.

This is a thread about one aspect of Mr. Trump. I spend much of my internet time on other websites in other countries so my attention span on the US is limited, frankly.

Illinois National Guard does not report to Trump

Ahh......yes, they do......like past Presidents, President Trump has the authority to Federalize any State's Guards units......furthermore, one of the few exceptions to the Posse Comitatus Act, allows the use of said troops to enforce Federal law and aide to federal agencies......hence the Guard could be used to aide not only local and State police in enforcing federal gun and drug laws, but aide agencies like the FBI and DEA...not only in policing, but use of surveillance and transport aircraft.

Authoritarian leaders rarely wait too long before instituting martial law.

No worry in the States.  Isn't this exactly why the second amendment and those patriotic civilian militias exist, to ensure the government doesn't overstep its bounds and lead them into something un-democratic, like fascism?

Right......like not only PET and Mulroney, but many past US Presidents that have called on the military to quell riots and maintain security.

You obviously weren't paying attention.

Clearly you weren't. Pierre Trudeau claimed to be a socialist and left winger and believer in constitutional rights. He instituted martial law and made a mockery of democracy and it was a Conservative Robert Stanfield who took him on and was ignored.

This is the same Pierre Trudeau who in the 50's in a cashmere sweater and white pants, pranced on apicket line doing dances and giggling with Jean Marchands and years later as PM gave the finger to people striking in Salmon River, B.C., and yet claimed to be a great supporter of Castro, Mao, was close friends with Ceacescu in Romania, Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe and danced with Saudi  and Kuwaiti Shieks dressed like Laurence of Arabia.

Now his son claims to wax poetic about green house emissions while creating more air pollution in one Lear jet private privileged conflict fo interest vacation flight then any average Canadian does in a whole year.

The point you did not find convenient is that before you call Trump a fascist, take a look at what Obama did in terms of government intervention and the curtailing of civil liberties. Leftists want government intervention as long as it serves their needs.

Trump is a blowhard. He says a lot if irresponsible and half asped impulse control disability blurts. He's clearly got adhd. What he said was in between garbled sentences is that he was concerned what is going on in Chicago in terms of murder rates. He never send he would send in the army. The feds have the jurisdiction to ask the FBI to engage in any police measure they believe has cross state border implications or deals with violation of federal laws. The FBI is also known when local police forces are defficient to lend a hand with forensic investigations of murder cases or organized crime.

Much a do about sweet phack all and people looking to whine and piss their pants when he has yet to do something.

You on cue like you always do come on to say something negative with nothing to back it up.

Yes but Trump never mentioned the military.  To be fair he made a vague reference and as you are aware he has the right under federal law to ask the FBI to get involved in any crime that deals with federal laws or to ask the FBI to assist local police forces with forensic investigations.

He was referring to high murder rates in Chicago. If they are too high, The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the Drug Enforcement Agency, the FBI, the Treasurtyand Justice Departments, Homeland Security, even the U.S. Marshall Service have possible roles in assisting local and state police forces.

I think a lot of people have it in for Trump and are looking to hang him on anything he says. Chicago crime rates in regards to murder are sky high.

He is a demagogue. Talking law and order is what he will do. Actions, actual policies that are created and implemented not words, are what should and will be judged.

Everytime the man burps people are ducking for cover.

You don't agree the militia gun nuts voted for Trump? You think they voted for Clinton!?

I think every militia crazy, every member of a white supremacist or neo nazi group, or the associated crazies who believe the government can't legally tax them or make them have a drivers licence all flocked to vote for Trump.

I don't get how someone who hated Harper so much can support Trump.

Are u asking if I hated Harper, because I said many times I didn't I said I didn't think he was a good PM and to give u an example of hatred just watch the View and look into Joy's eyes when she talks about him.

Without a doubt, I doubt he'd need the National Guard, but he would be within his right to call them up if he did.

It'll take a military scale effort with tanks, armoured cars, special forces and aur support to accomplish what Trump's fantasy is implying when it comes to feds invading the cities to take on armed gangs and "criminal" immigrants.

It'll trigger an Intafada and turn millions of Americans into insurgent/terrorists/freedom fighters.

I'm getting a really big bag of popcorn.
