Should Energy East be revived and come to Ontario?
ironstone replied to Zeitgeist's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I honestly can't imagine any pipelines being built as long as Justin Trudeau(Gerald Butts) is Prime Minister. His government has put in place far too many barriers to overcome. It seems obvious that the reason for all those regulations is precisely to ensure that no pipelines will ever be built again in Canada. -
Lies We are Told About the Canadian Oil Industry
ironstone replied to ReeferMadness's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Does anybody know of an electric car currently on the market that can be charged in the same time as it takes to fill up the average gasoline powered car?Still quite a hefty price for electric cars as far as I'm concerned. One thing I think most people aren't aware of is the huge cost of replacing these batteries when they fail. I still have doubts about wind and solar power, even with advances in storage capacity. We can go for many days or weeks without much sun or wind and how long will the stored energy get used up?I think it's clear we will still need some kind of back up energy source. There is enormous hypocrisy from so-called "green"governments like in BC.Care to take a guess what happens to all the coal that BC exports? -
GM packing its bags in Oshawa
ironstone replied to turningrite's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Major corporations are just like us in the sense that they want to get the most bang for their buck. When you buy a product of any kind, you don't look to buy it at the highest price do you?No, you will likely try and get it at the best(lowest ) price. As for electricity cost in Ontario,I have seen articles saying we are among the highest and some suggesting we aren't. I know the current cost is artificially low thanks to some very creative accounting from the Wynne Liberals when they were in power. https://www.fraserinstitute.org/article/ontario-electricity-rates-for-industry-among-highest-in-north-america -
GM packing its bags in Oshawa
ironstone replied to turningrite's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think it would have been best if the US and Canadian governments had simply let GM go bankrupt in the first place. We can't change what has already happened however.I don't really see how much more can be done to keep plants like the GM one in Oshawa from leaving. It is a fact that we have a high cost of labour here,as well as a tax disadvantage and higher electricity costs. The only people that have jobs for life are public servants. When I bought a new car a few years ago,I wasn't really concerned about where it was made.I just bought something that I liked and had good reviews.Turns out my car was built in Mexico but I didn't know that until after I bought it.My previous car was made in Ontario I believe(Corolla) and has been super reliable(536000km). I do feel for the workers in Oshawa of course. It is a certainty that they will get more support from the Feds than those in Alberta who have had a much tougher time of it. -
How should Canada spend its media funding?
ironstone replied to Machjo's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think this funding of the media is a monumentally bad idea and surely part of the intent is to overwhelm any conservative media outlets. I can't answer your question as to how to best dole out the money either, there simply isn't a fair way in my opinion. It's already a sure thing that all of the money will be given to Liberal-friendly,left leaning media sources. Those who decide where the money goes will themselves be chosen by the Liberals. This is what my MP said is his reply to my comment about this foolish initiative: Thank you for writing to me about Canada’s media reality. Ensuring a healthy media industry is ensuring a healthy democracy. "I support CBC because for some communities, it’s the only source of information available in rural Canada. Local journalism is vital to our democracy. Journalists play a fundamental role in holding governments which include municipal, provincial and federal jurisdiction. The $600 million tax credit will be used for labour costs, content creation and everything will be independent from political interference. Many businesses get access to various tax credits. Getting access to a tax credit doesn’t translate into automatic support for governments. In the last decade more than 16,000 Canadian journalists have lost their jobs, and twenty-seven daily newspapers and 222 weekly have either closed or merged operations. $50 million dollars will be spent on local journalism over the next five years. This will help to finance reporters on the ground and will enable donation and subscriber-based projects." I used to read both the Ottawa Citizen and Ottawa Sun daily but I haven't bothered for a while now because it's more convenient to get my news from other sources and frankly, both papers are overpriced.Use the money to retrain these so called journalists just like the auto workers. -
Lies We are Told About the Canadian Oil Industry
ironstone replied to ReeferMadness's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
At this moment in Ontario:http://www.ieso.ca/power-data/this-hours-data As you can see,a pitiful amount of energy from wind turbines and ZERO megawatts from solar.Wind and solar energy are dependant on agreeable weather conditions of course and cannot produce power on demand. For all the billions of dollars that have been poured into these forms of "green" energy, the current output is pathetic. I'm not saying there isn't a role for so-called renewable forms of energy but the cost is astronomical. Electric cars have their limitations too.We mustn't forget how many billions have flowed out of the Western provinces to fund programs in other regions. We should be grateful for how much the oil and gas industry has contributed to this country, think equalization payments. -
Is the federal NDP irrelevant?
ironstone replied to turningrite's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
As much as I dislike the NDP,they do serve a role in that they will siphon off votes from the Liberals to some extent. I don't really see all that much difference between the Liberals and NDP policy-wise,they are both pretty far out on the left.Their current leader,what's-his-name most certainly hasn't caught on in any way to date. -
I think the Democrats will win the House but not with a "blue wave".The mainstream media will play it up as a huge nationwide rebuke to Donald Trump. Back in 2010,I'm sure they downplayed the results when Obama and the Democrats lost the House. If the Dems do indeed win,it won't be good for the US,more obstruction and gridlock. Someone mentioned earlier that Bernie Sanders would have beaten Trump, what a truly terrifying thing that would have been. I think the Republicans hold the Senate. I can't forget 2016,when just about every poll indicated an easy victory for Clinton.....

Caravan Now 7K Strong
ironstone replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
From what I see on the news, most of the people in this caravan appear to be young men and not mostly women and children as some would have you believe. What exactly is preventing anyone from applying to get into the US through normal channels? The immigration laws should be applied and enforced. I admit Canada is just as bad if not worse in allowing an open door immigration policy. At the end of the day,it does not benefit the country. The Democrats have no qualms about using these people solely for their own gains(votes). -
USA Sinks into Authoritarinism
ironstone replied to ReeferMadness's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
If Trump ever decides to weaponize any federal agencies against his opponents like Obama did, then this topic might be relevant some day.Trump won the election fair and square,in spite of everything going against him.Clinton outspent him by a wide margin, had overwhelming support and help from the mainstream media, she got financial support from the Russians as well(Bill's grossly overpaid speaches, contributions to the Clinton Foundation).Trump just outworked Hillary in a big way. Trump is no dictator, not even remotely close. One huge difference between him and all of his predecessors is that he says what he thinks, right out in the open. How's that for transparency? He is much stronger on foreign policy and has rightly called out the slacking of his allies, notably in defence spending.- 223 replies

I am the New Minister of Immigration!
ironstone replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It may sound harsh to those on the left, but immigration policy should first and foremost be designed to benefit the country as a whole. It should not be used as a tool for getting votes to remain in power which is what is happening now.Immigration levels should be tied to the strength of our economy as well, strong economy, more people, weak economy, bring in less.Pierre Trudeau surprisingly did this back in his day.Being able to immigrate to Canada has pretty much become a right and not a privilege as it once was. A real screening process would be most welcome too. The Khadr family anyone? -
Should we end Birthright Citizenship
ironstone replied to Argus's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes,end this idiotic policy for good! As was mentioned in the first post, there are only two countries that have this policy in place and who knows how many people come to Canada only as an easy way to get citizenship for their child and all the benefits that come with it. I won't hold my breath, even if the Conservatives win anytime soon . -
I have many doubts about the Liberal basic income program, the biggest being that it would certainly encourage able bodied people to not work for themselves and encourage lifelong dependency. Here's a perfect example of what would have happened with large numbers of people in Ontario had this program continued. https://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/lilley-taxpayers-shouldnt-be-paying-for-free-rides I do get that those with physical or mental issues do need help and should get some kind of assistance, but I draw the line for those who don't want to contribute and just freeload off the system.

Cap and trade IS a carbon tax! How on earth can you not understand that?If there was an initial cost to emitters(many of them received free credits to start with)they would have passed on or just added more cost to consumers.Companies don't pay....we pay. http://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/goldstein-wynnes-carbon-scheme-deserved-to-die

Andrea Horvath Appeared On Drugs
ironstone replied to Robert Greene's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
As awful as Wynne has been for Ontario over the years, I have to admit that Andrea Horwath would have been even worse for us.Now that Doug Ford has won, just sit back and watch how the left-leaning media will really go into attack mode. -
Horwath, NDP: "Donate a little bit more taxes....."
ironstone replied to betsy's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Andrea Horwath is just as competent and intelligent as Kathleen Wynne which isn't saying much. She'll as bad as Wynne or worse.More idiotic nonsense from the Left. As for green energy and the environmental concerns, I suggest you guys check out John Robson's documentary on youtube "The Environment,A True Story" -
Trudeau Is Falling For Hamas Propaganda
ironstone replied to PIK's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hamas does not merely encourage resistance, they wholeheartedly encourage violence at every opportunity. Not only against Israelis, but Hamas is all too eager to see their own people needlessly die for the sake of propaganda. How much effort is given to building a robust economy in Gaza compared to resources wasted attacking Israelis? As for the multi-generation fear, loathing and hatred,it hasn't been allowed to fester......Hamas teaches it, encourages it and promotes it! -
Trudeau Is Falling For Hamas Propaganda
ironstone replied to PIK's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So what has Hamas done for it's people? Can Gaza survive without massive aid from the West? Would you enjoy seeing them fulfill what's written in their Charter about the destruction of Israel and it's people? -
Horwath, NDP: "Donate a little bit more taxes....."
ironstone replied to betsy's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
If anyone will end up nailed to a cross,it will be the taxpayers of Ontario who are already taxed too much! Corporations have a choice...they can relocate and it's likely that many will under a a Horwath run Ontario. Most of the Liberals major policies have been failures, the NDP will continue many of these policies and move Ontario even further to the Left.More wind turbines and solar panels, shutting down nuclear plants, deficits for the foreseeable future and a colossal debt will await us if the NDP win.How about an ever increasing number of able bodied people contributing nothing to our economy? Could the Leap Manifesto be Horwath's template? Scary! brianlilley.com/meet-andrea-horwaths-crazy-ndp-candidates/ -
Doesn't Chicago have very tough gun laws in place? Do you have any thoughts as to why there are still so many shootings there in spite of the anti-gun laws? https://www.dailywire.com/news/28630/watch-actors-audition-reading-gun-facts-camera-frank-camp Any shooting is one too many of course, but the sad fact is that there will always be crimes committed in society, no matter how many laws are in place.

Omar's lawyer is now a federal judge?
ironstone replied to PIK's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It's really too bad for all concerned that Omar Khadr wasn't left to die on the battlefield.Something is seriously wrong with our immigration system when people like the Khadr family are welcomed with open arms into this country. This horrible family never has and never will contribute anything positive for Canada. -
But you were supposed to list the things you admire most about Islam! What are those things?

Justin Trudeau the Worst PM Since Pierre Trudeau?
ironstone replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Conservative attack ads before the last election were correct,Trudeau is simply not up to the job of being Prime Minister. He's pretty much just a shallow figurehead for the Liberals. But despite the fact he hasn't proved he's up to the job so far ,he will still win the next election because most progressive voters go for style over substance. Judging by some of his "costumes" ,I don't think he has style either.
