BS Meter Pegged
impartialobserver replied to gatomontes99's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
My BS meter gets pegged every time I read or watch anything about politics. -
housing costs may not be why someone ends up on the street but it is one of the reasons that they stay there. Mental health is another part that is both separate and interwoven with high costs. So not only do you have diminished job prospects, high costs, and now mental health issues that make daily existence challenging. When I was on the street.. there were 3 distinct camps. 1. Young, able bodied, but drug addicts that deliberately lived on the street so as to avoid detection by law enforcement. These were criminals who changed their names and appearances as well as lived "off the grid". 2. Mental health issues.. folks who had severe depression, anxiety, and/or schizophrenia. Most of them self medicated in the form of drugs and/or alcohol. 3. The able bodied types that were doing everything that they can to get off the street (myself being one of them). For the second and third groups.. lower cost of housing would definitely take some of them off the street.

That explains a lot. Some claim that opening the flood gates will make for more alcoholics and all that comes with it. There is some truth to that. A person has limited income and if that bottle of Jack Daniels is $12 and not $26.. they will buy more of it and more often. My home state of Idaho has state run liquor stores and therefore have higher prices than what we do in NV.

Trump shot at his own rally
impartialobserver replied to QuebecOverCanada's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
A flag is not hero worship... it does not represent one person ... analogy does not work. The thread is about who? Hmm... first word in the thread title should be your first clue. Second.. what is the topic? Again, lets read that thread title. So, the bandages are very much related to the thread. If I was a partisan type, I would go to to a rally and not need the extra decorations. My presence signals my intentions.. bandages are just silly. They are free to wear them and I am free to look at it on a screen and laugh. -

I guess... I did not know about those. I am not a partisan type so this type of hero worship is both sad and comical. quick edit.. I guess its no different than the so-called Hipsters who claim to be so individual and then when they go to rallies or concerts.. they all wear exactly the same thing. I went to see a punk rock band named the Alkaline Trio and upon getting to the show.. noticed that 95% of the crowd was wearing the same Pabst blue ribbon t-shirt and all of the men wore their facial hair in the same way. It was kinda weird. -
Well.. instead of just arguing.. lets put some numbers to this. Random homeless person in Seattle. We can reasonably assume that they have little to no actual liquid income. So now they want to get an apartment. Lets say that they go with the studio... $1481 on average. So first they have to get a job. We all know that being on the street (now or in the recent past) is going to limit their options. So they will end up in janitorial, fast food, or low end retail. The average gross weekly wage in those industries is roughly $1600 in King county for 2023 q4 (source QCEW). So now we also know that they have first months rent, last months rent, and a deposit. The person has to have at least 1481 + 1481 + 500. Quick estimate is about 3300.... $3300 is a lot of money for most let alone someone on the street starting with 0 income or close to it. When I was on the street in SLC, I got around this by renting someone's basement for $100 per month. Yes, my hypothetical person in Seattle could find such alternative arrangements. The higher the housing cost for the primary owner/tenant.. the higher the cost for the subletter (myself in SLC).

Trump shot at his own rally

The ear bandages worn by Trump supporters...so incredibly funny. If one came to my office.. I would have to walk away in laughter. -
That's too funny. I was in Windermere getting something at a gas station and this guy walks up to me, figures out that I am an American, and then asks me if I am here to get some tail. I paused and then he asked. "if so, any hints as to where I can get a good one or two?" I did not know what to say really but I replied, "Uh.. not quite, with the wife, mother in law and other in laws". explain that one.. do Americans go up to the Canadian Rockies to get laid?

Trump shot at his own rally

As always.. you bring Covid into it no matter the topic. Why? It clearly has 100% nothing to do with the topic at hand.. Trump being shot at. I know your types and nothing that is printed will be juicy enough. it will not be conspiratorial enough. Not enough layers. If come to find out, it is just some lone wolf nutcase.. you will not be satisfied. There must be some cabal behind it. -

I started predicting a Trump victory a few years ago. The CARES act (stimulus payments) along with a slough of under the radar items tied in with unemployment insurance and grant funding created the high rates of inflation. Now, in all fairness. Trump would have done the same and then it would be Biden supporters crying about inflation. -
Just hired another person in my dept. 5'1" and 120 lbs at best. So much for height being what tips the scales in every profession. Why hire such a short person? Simple.. they are a documented and proven expert in R, R Shiny, and Python.

#verifythis Between now and Nov. 6.. the OP will create 9 more threads that compare Trump (or whoever he/she does not like) to Hitler, Nazis, etc. He/she does it for shock value as someone who has read Mein Kempf, Zweites Buch, and a lot of other stuff written by Hitler himself or about him.. Trump bears little to no resemblance to Hitler in his ways.
