  1. true. There is always something to get worked up over.. even if it is silly and trivial
  2. there is an easy solution to this... but no one wants to actually do something. They want to whine. Nothing more American than ceaselessly whining and complaining.
  3. Being atheist and not engaging in faux outrage... I saw this, shrugged, and have intermittently watched the various sporting events. Why? Because I am a sports fan.
  4. I shall have to dig around. I know from working with politicians and business leaders at my current job that illegal immigration is not all that big of an issue here. The major issues (and one that can't be fixed by politicians in the short term) are housing cost and water supply.
  5. You neglect the reality of mail in voting which is legal and will be happening. Your approval of this reality is not necessary for it to exist. Hiring staff would be far more thorough than the current method being done. When you show up in person.. you have to show ID.
  6. The border is of particular importance in TX, NM, AZ, CA, NV, and LA. Of those, the only one that is not diehard partisan is maybe NV. Even then, the locals in Las vegas where most of the immigration occurs are not that worked up about it. They end up being the ones working in the not-so-glorious jobs in hotels and restaurants. Its ok because it pumps up the job numbers and keeps the consumption spending hamster wheel moving.
  7. It appears that the secretary of state is enacting a measure to clean up the voter registration database. While I applaud the effort.. it will not be enough to appease the conspiracy theorists. Besides, it is going to be costly. Hiring 3 or 4 folks would be pricey as well but then you would have ongoing maintenance and not just putting out fires https://www.nevadaappeal.com/news/2024/jul/25/nevada-election-officials-carry-out-voter-roll-maintenance-ahead-of-november-election/
  8. The border issue in most cases is one of pure emotion for folks. Xenophobia.. in its simplest form. Really dive into the numbers and it really does not validate either side. One.. data shows that the tax revenues do not generally increase enough to offset the increase in social service costs. Two.. crime does not generally rise at a level above that of the expected (increases in population correlate with increased reported crime) . However, in areas where the illegal immigrant population has led to an increase in the population of a place overall (Las vegas, NV and El Paso, TX as examples).. the reported crime rate has not been all that different on a per capita rate than before they came. I always come at this from the viewpoint of logistics and resources. More people equals more resources needed. In places like West Texas, Southern Arizona, Southern California which are very hot and arid..those resources can be tapped out.
  9. Well... then lets see you put forth the list of ALL events where violence took place and then list out the political affiliation of all the participants. Then you can form a quantitative method of backing up your claim.
  10. Did not know that anyone used Excel for editing photos. Learn something new everyday. I do what's called a join (usually left_join) all of the time. Left simply means that the items that you are trying to match on are on the left side of the table. Dates are usually on the left. The usual pattern in government data sets is time, area, ownership (federal gov, state gov, local gov, or private), and industry or occupation. For something to join.. the format has to be exactly the same and the number of characters (visible or invisible) to be exactly the same.
  11. Your sample size for deeming it more common on one side is artificially small. You rely on cherry picked articles from the Internet. The violence on January 6 can definitely be attributed to the Right but it is only one event.
  12. I find it lazy and ignorant to imply that if person x votes democrat that they are more likely to be violent or support violence. That is the general thought process when this comes up. Progressive/Liberal is not synonymous with being violent.
  13. A certain poster was trying to say that political violence or violence in general is purely a Democrat or Liberal phenomenon. Dylan roof would be very angry to be labeled as a liberal.
  14. sadly, there are a lot of humans (therefore both sides) that are ever so angry or sad. This propensity to violence is not the sole monopoly of one side or the other.
  15. That is beside my point. My point was about the voter rolls. Being that in NV.. you can vote in person or by mail-in, the issues/realities that I laid come into play.
  16. Dates and date formats are the bane of any person that works with databases existence. It really gets messy when you have June 06, 2024 or 06 June, 2024. The text items have to be converted and if there is any hidden characters or programming (which there is in excel) then it scrambles it up and the puzzle begins.
  17. What is especially laughable is that they insist that all the books, articles, texts, etc written that confirm the existence of the Holocaust is some conspiracy. These people from all over the Globe were all in on it... they coordinated their writings so that they all said the same thing. If you have ever worked with a large group and tried to get them to do the same thing.. you would know that humans are not that predictable or loyal. Getting millions of people across a huge area over 50 years to all follow a certain narrative.. its simply not possible.
  18. I am giving you the nuts and bolts, boots on the ground viewpoint of my state, Nevada. If you want to read subjective articles and have no idea where the numbers come from.. that is up to you
  19. you have far greater persistence or patience than I. I can't take a holocaust denier even remotely serious. Its like someone claiming that the reason that they were late for work is that aliens abducted them and took them to Jupiter.
  20. So its just a routine. I get that. I come here to fill up time while things download or when I am stumped by something in SQL. I will admit that I know that my posts are not earth shattering revelations that politicians pay attention to. Nope.. nothing that grand.
  21. Why do you not ask them? They are the ones (both Republican and Democrat) who are opposed to increased staffing. The addition of these types to the voter registration database is automated and so no staffing and infinitesimal low cost. Automating the clean up would be extremely complex. It could be done but you have to hire someone to write this vast, very complex Python or SQL script. And then also other agencies have to allow access to their data so you can do simple cross matches. And believe it or not.. they do not like doing so.
  22. There is not enough space on this forum to explain what someone would have to do in order to do this correctly. It gets pretty complex and usually demands that you cross matches with other databases. That gets messy because the columns and their formats are not uniform. "06/10//2024" does not join with "06-10-2024"
  23. Just going to propose something.. maybe you move on from forums like this one. These forums exist so that posters can vent and in most cases get into meaningless spats about who is morally superior.
  24. In NV.. the instant that you apply for a DL or learner's permit, you are registered to vote. If you move and come back.. which happens often, you will have two records in the database. There are many other examples but yes.. most states do a poor job of cleaning their voter registration database. Why? It is tedious, laborious, and hard to justify the expense to higher ups. To pay 3 or 4 relatively high paid staff to do this is a big item on the budget.. one that puts you into the red.
