Well how do you measure quality of life? Canada still has better infant mortality rates and longer life expectancy than the US. We have fewer homicides and a less polarized society. Canadians generally prefer and like their way. The country goes through rough periods and has its problems. Which had the better overall quality of life? Depends what you’re looking for at. Our dollar is weaker and our incomes have lagged, but 15 years ago we had higher incomes and currency. We declined under Trudeau. Hopefully now we can repair the damage and make some productive moves.2 points

Words on paper. They meant nothing to Iran. They just needed enough space to build their bomb. That is why they demanded to be able to dictate where inspectors could inspect and banned specific military bases from inspection. Words on paper meant nothing because we could not catch them if we played by the rules. It was probably the worst agreement in the history of the United States. That is not hyperbole. It took us down the road to nuclear bombs in every major European capitol and maybe even the US. This war was the real world equivalent to cutting the red wire with one second on the timer.2 points

11 years ago Marco Rubio spoke about the long-term ramifications of the JCPOA. It was going to provide Iran with the cover to: build a nuclear program at scale, with a collection of facilities capable of making large quantities of weapons-grade Uranium very quickly build a MASSIVE ballistic missile program, large enough to even provide ballistic missiles to small tribes of people with large terrorist populations, like the Houthis - they are the only large-town-sized group of people on earth to have ballistic missiles. build a massive, sophisticated drone stockpile build anti-aircraft radar systems, missile batteries, etc, to keep American forces away create a large, purpose-built, fast-attack craft navy to keep America's navy out of the gulf accumulate a fleet frigates with anti-air, submarine, and surface to surface capabilities supply Hamas and Hezbollah with massive stockpiles of rockets to fire at Israel What Marco Rubio understood 11 years ago, and committed to the public record in that now-famous speech, which the Dems still don't understand to this day, was the fact that the JCPOA provided cover for Iran to accumulate a conventional military, and accompanying well-stocked terrorist armies, with enough power to prevent Iran from being bullied out of building their nuclear weapons program at some point in the near future. Sure, this year, the US and Israel managed to pull off both the greatest and the most historically significant military victory in the history of planet earth to this point, but it's hard to say just how close Iran came to victory this year... The point could be made that, if Hezbollah fired their 150,000 rockets at the same time that Hamas was firing their 50,000 rockets, they could have overwhelmed Israel's Iron Dome and maybe this would have been America alone vs Iran. Or maybe Iran was a month or so away from installing more advanced anti-air defence systems from Russia or China which would have secured victory for Iran. Or it's possible that if America just had a bad day with the availability of E3-Sentry (AWAC) planes or other electronic warfare planes, maybe they would have lost an aircraft carrier and support for the war would have zeroed. Hell, if you listen to CNN today, Iran is still winning this war right now. But this much is certain: if Trump didn't do this, and the Dems gained the WH in 2028, then Iran definitely would have gotten to the point of having ICBM's and nuclear weapons. Building bomb shelters in America would have become normal again in this decade. Bottom line: Marco Rubio's ability to forecast the future that would be created by America relying on the JCPOA, from all the way back in 2015, still surpasses the average Democrat's ability to understand the present, even with the benefit of both hindsight and current military intelligence.1 point

The price point has been established, and yes, NA auto companies can compete in that price range with their low-end EV's. You have a challenge keeping up with what's said... This isn't about building Chinese cars for the cheapest price possible, it's about learning from their technologies and if a Chinese vehicle were to be produced here, it would be with Canadian made parts and Canadian labor, and neither of which are cheap. Our auto sector has been under siege for 2 decades and going back to at least 2007 with capital spending in the auto sector collapsing then. We need to do something if we're going to remain relevant in auto manufacturing. The Canadian auto sector isn't under siege because of China, it's under siege because of the US. They obviously don't want us producing as we have so rather than your preferred plan of rolling over and saying uncle, we're trying a different route to keep people employed.1 point

.................. I always find it helpful to read between the lines. 14147 is a complete contradiction of the norm understanding that the DOJ acts INDEPENDANTLY of the Executive. What it does is empower (not a wink or a nod) but empowers the DOJ / FBI free reign to prosecute, harass, intimidate legally, Trump's political opponents. 14147 is a broad threat ................. to any opponent , institution, business to STFU or we'll come for you. Trump is not hiding it ............ he is broadcasting it.............. it is intimidation at the highest level.1 point

Number #1 is hopeless because natives demand to own everything and demand endless billions in compensation. How do you negotiate with a mindset like that? The BC NDP is the worst government BC has ever had. They are completely in the native's pocket even though the natives are only 5% of the population. Eby acts like the rest of us, 95% of population don't exist. The BC government allows FNs dancers in costumes come right into the BC legislature to perform their dances. This is a ridiculous give away of our system. How can they allow this. 5% of the population gets all the attention and almost seems to control the government. The rest of us are in deep trouble. Now Eby just cancelled the plan to amend DRIPA. This is a major disaster for the people of BC who own land that is under threat from land claims. It is a threat to the resource industries who must bow and scrape to FN bands and get their permission to do anything. Eby says he won't change anything until December. Nothing will be changed this legislative session. Wow! Where's the urgency to protect the people of Richmond whose land is under threat? And everyone else and all the court cases going on? Who is protecting the people of B.C.? NOT THE NDP.1 point

Why the Biden ignorance. (AI) There is no widely cited "EO 14144" or "EO 1414" listed as a major policy act of the second Trump administration. However, in June 2025, President Trump issued an executive order related to cybersecurity that amended previous orders. The White House (.gov) +1 Here is the context regarding 2025 Executive Orders and related actions based on the provided search results: Cybersecurity Amendment (June 6, 2025): President Trump signed an executive order, "Sustaining Select Efforts to Strengthen the Nation's Cybersecurity," which amended EO 13694 and EO 14144. Initial Day One Orders (January 20, 2025): The administration focused on EO 14148 ("Initial Rescissions of Harmful Executive Orders and Actions") and EO 14149 ("Restoring Freedom of Speech and Ending Federal Censorship"). Weaponization Order (January 20, 2025): Executive Order 14147 was signed, titled "Ending the Weaponization of the Federal Government". The White House (.gov) +51 point

Here's what it means to me. The government knew full well what they were doing as they were doing it, and they knew they would lose if/when challenged. They knew and they didn't care, the police knew and they didn't care as they enforced it too. Here's the thing that bugs me about it.... the reason they didn't care was due to the to the time and expense it takes to correct obvious unconstitutional laws and get justice in the form of a court ruling. The proof of that is the amount of the fine... it was deliberately set to deter individuals from seeking justice. The first step is always saying: and having the parts it takes to get charged and mount a defence. The government does this knowingly and regardless of political persuasion people should be offended by it because pretty soon, everything is going to be framed as an emergency. I've noticed a few here don't like it when Trump does that... as usual, my question is WTF did you think was going to happen? The case was brought on behalf of Jeffrey Evely, a Canadian Armed Forces veteran who was fined $28,872.50 after walking in the woods during the ban. Lawyers challenging the measure were funded by the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms. In its decision, the court found there was no evidence the minister considered mobility rights before issuing the proclamation. The judge wrote that governments may respond to emergencies, but must still weigh the impact of their decisions on constitutionally protected freedoms. Most arguments in favour of this stuff fail to address the "creep" of unintended consequences or even attempt to discern where something they currently support will eventually lead. The examples are legion, here's an off topic CNN article about high potency marijuanna to illustrate what I mean... this was predicted; let's not pretend it wasn't, and, since it's CNN it has to be true. https://www.cnn.com/2026/04/20/health/marijuana-potency-wellness1 point

Outstanding post. Several people have said "Republicans are not the solution to all your problems but Democrats are the cause of most problems." This holds true to that statement. The Democrats voted for a bad agreement that led to the short war with Iran. Worse, their bad agreement put us dangerously on the edge of a nuclear holocaust. The war with Iran will go down, in history, as an short, incredibly consequential "excursion".1 point

TBH I'm just a minor contributor here. You, Reg, Ironstone, Legato, Nationalist, Fluffypants, etc have kept this thread going through some months where I didn't post in this thread at all. Funny thing is, I remember back when I started this thread, the Dems seemingly owned the political humour arena... The conservative side had no late-night presence at all, and even on social media our side just wasn't doing humour - it was almost all just serious business. In the past 5 years the pendulum has swung entirely the opposite way... Conservatives pump out dozens of hilarious memes every day, conservative comedians are common now, and Trump and PP even make jokes that are hilarious. From the left's side, late night isn't funny at all, and memes that are truly funny from the left's side are very few and far between. I honestly feel like we took over the humour aspect completely.1 point

We should call the US bluff and see how they would implement this if Canadians supported it. That’s how the US should’ve marketed it to Canadians. We only see it as turning over self-determination to dysfunctional Washington in a self-centred US, with no demonstrated understanding of the complexity of Canada and its jurisdictions, which would all have to remain jurisdictions (10 provinces/states and 3 territories) with different national policies pertaining to all of Canada in language, culture, and public policies that differ from the US across Canada, handled federally in Ottawa. There’s no democratic way of ignoring those, and imposing control against the wishes of the people undermines the US raison d’être. As stated many times, the best case scenario for US trade policy with Canada is an economic union between the two countries that allows free movement of goods, residents and workers, with an understanding that residents follow the local laws and cannot access certain services, perhaps until minimum length of residency and/or work requirements are met. Over time the duplication between policies and departments can be reduced between the two countries, such that the economy is a de facto single entity providing new opportunities for the citizens of both countries. As of now Canadians are running away from the US, so I don’t see how greater integration can be sold today. The current isolationist US also doesn’t seem interested in sharing or compromise. I think Canada should simply carry on with its economic plan until the US trade extortionists are run out of town at mid-terms. In any event, the US is fighting battles on too many fronts right now, especially overseas. Every time a clown like Lutnik shoots off his mouth insulting Canada, Canadians put a gone fishing sign on their door. Damn right.1 point

The right has been far too tolerant in accepting the left's extreme stance, hoping they will come back to the table. But they don't. Question is can nationalism or patriotism replace the public's fascination with the political freak show, lead them out of their fear and captivity. Yes it could. Loyalty to the national idea of Canada is a threat to wokeness, which only seeks to blame us for the sins of our fathers. We need to move past the blame. That is why when Justin Trudeau proclaimed Canada is a post-national state, he was taking away that nation-idea. In other words he was going to destroy Canada, by making young people feel ashamed of what happened centuries ago. If you look into what little kids are being taught now, about themselves and Canada, you'll understand how the attack of Wokeness is affecting youth and confusing them. Confusing over who they are. ... Back to thread, the US is becoming like it used to be. Canada is dying.1 point

People in Canada and US are fed up with wokism and irresposible migration. The left's political attacks threaten our rights and make our streets unsafe. That anger is the fertile ground upon which a Donald Trump comes into power. He is a reaction to wokism. Trunp's "meanness" is a reaction to wokism's meanness. He will set them back on a course of US exceptionalism. eta- but sadly, Canada has no Trump to free us from this Soros-and-WEF-globalist control over our country. Canada has been sold out, for us there will be no redemption.1 point

Every article based on any objective measures will point to American trade policy/tariffs being the main reason for the downturn in Canada’s economy. It’s going to be painful for years to come. To claim otherwise is delusional. As if we can tweak some red tape and Canada will be back on the economic track that it had been. Pure rightwing fantasy.1 point

AI: "Chinese goods accounted for only 13.3% of U.S. imports in 2024, down from 21.6% in 2017 but some decreases may be attributed to trade fraud, shipping, and accounting adjustments where goods are rerouted through other countries rather than completely stopping production in China." So, US business with China is still very much alive but businesses have found a way around tariffs LOL While I think building Chinese cars in Canad is no only a good idea...it would be a smart idea. With American automakers reducing manufacture or just closing plants, they can be easily used to make EV's for Canadians plus, it would pi$$ off Trump LOL But, the government has already shut that down...Stellantis can say what they want but...government will decide. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/article-stellantis-chinese-evs-leapmotor-melanie-joly-brampton/-1 points

Re: US - The competition between EV and AI for energy is complex and a compelling argument , most especially when a straw man is being created to dissuade EV ………..no question AI will be increasingly integrated into any EV infrastructure management, that said, experts agree that (EV) does not directly compete with AI in terms of energy consumption. I follow an ex-military (US Navy 20 years) advanced human behavioral scientist, Chase Hughes. He has an interesting analysis of the core fear behind someone's consistent use of the insult LOSER. Once you see it, you can't unsee it. The 12-yr-old is a very, very scared little boy, desperately trying to work out a well-defined personal trauma by coming here and chasing you and I around every day. He thinks everyone is jealous of him but it's really just pity. If he is an adult, which I highly doubt, he is a low emotional maturity adult, which makes me doubt his claims of an illustrious military career. Any higher up military person gets there because they have a record of emotional strength, not childishness.-1 points
