I agree with all of your concerns, but Canada is a middle power that needs leverage against US trade aggression and China is potentially a larger market for our exports than the U.S. However, we can’t compromise our democratic values and way of life or adopt their totalitarian surveillance state. Having been in the position of hiring people...I have not seen any applications for jobs that ask for your colour or gender in my tenure. Maybe in the past but certainly no tin the past 20 or so years. Applications I have dealt with do not even ask age or race. Many resumes do not even have names, as applicants are given a number.

Dan Goldman is a politician in a political setting. He is not giving legal advice. They do not have a legal status. They have a stay of deportation until their claim is heard. That does not make them here legally. It prevents them from being deported until their hearing. The problem occurred when Joe Biden's council of Presidents determined that they should just let asylum seekers go rather than have their case heard within 3 to 4 days (as was the norm). Many Asylum seekers did not return for their hearing and had rulings against them. I haven't looked up the number, but the asylum denial rate is in the 90's. All lf the asylum seekers under the dark years of Biden should have been detained until their hearing. Releasing them was and is a violation of immigration law.

It really depends how it’s implemented, but unless it’s properly regulated it can very easily end up siphoning resources from the public systems (doctors, donations etc) and leaving the poor with much worse access.
