CBC TV host blasts state broadcaster in fiery resignation | Toronto Sun In a scathing letter announcing his resignation, now former CBC journalist and television host Travis Dhanraj is taking aim at Canada’s state broadcaster. You can read the full resignation letter here. "Quickly though, CBC realized that Dhanraj wasn’t the kind of host CBC wanted; he actually welcomed a diversity of opinion. And while other shows like Power & Politics faced a boycott at the time by MPs from the federal Conservatives over their blatant pro-Trudeau, Liberal bias, those same Conservative MPs would speak to and appear on TV with Dhanraj, something CBC’s “top talent” wouldn’t allow and blocked from happening." Sigh. It may take a little longer than we hoped but these scumbags have got to go2 points

What am I lying about? It's not lying pointing out how ridiculous you look lauding Poilievre's comical failure in the election. The Conservatives getting 41% of the vote and losing a two horse race is not a good result. Trying to convince your it's impressive is a sad coping mechanism. The fact that Poilievre lost his own seat is a good indication of what went wrong. The fact that he consistently polls poorly among Canadians and that his net favorability is a toilet flush should clue most people in, but not the deluded clowns who stroke to his image. This sort of retarded statement would make more sense if I spent even 2% of the time you do here. 🤡2 points

No, but framing PP's comical failure in the last election as a success sure is! At least I'm not useless, unemployed, friendless and don't spend my entire day, every day, fighting on the internet like you! Exactly! After 10 years of Liberal mismanagement and disgust, and a +20% polling advantage for his party heading into the new year, Pierre Poilievre still (somehow) managed to make himself look like the worse option. Amazing! 🤣2 points

Well, we don't know the whole, inside story on this yet, but I would agree CBC needs to reign in some at the top, cut way back on the bonuses, and put more emphasis on local programming. But I do not want to see them throw out the baby with the bathwater.2 points

Dude was a drug trafficker that died of natural causes: https://www.news-journalonline.com/story/news/crime/2025/06/26/canadian-who-died-in-ice-custody-daytona-drug-trafficker/84377246007/ Johnny Noviello was being held at the Bureau of Prisons Federal Detention Center in Miami pending deportation proceedings when he was found unresponsive June 23 at 12:54 p.m., the release stated. Medical staff immediately responded, called 911, and began administering CPR and a defibrillator, according to the release. ------------------------------- Your article tries to make it sound like ICE is killing people in custody. What a pathetic hit piece. Look at his pic. He probably had a heart attack. He was a drug dealer so he probably was using some kind of shìt and he was obese. "Over 50 Canadians Held in ICE Custody Amid Legal Uncertainty Over 55 Canadians face detention in U.S. ICE centers as immigration enforcement intensifies in 2025. Johnny Noviello’s death highlights concerns over conditions. Canadian government and advocates call for transparency and fair treatment amid new executive orders expanding detentions and arrest targets. Last updated: July 7, 2025 9:30 am Key Takeaways • Over 55 Canadians detained by ICE in U.S. due to immigration violations and minor criminal offenses in 2025. • Johnny Noviello, a Canadian, died in ICE custody on June 23, prompting scrutiny of detention conditions. • Canada’s government offers consular help while advocacy groups push for humane ICE detention reforms. As of July 7, 2025, the detention of over 50 Canadians by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has sparked growing concern, legal confusion, and public outcry. The recent death of Canadian citizen Johnny Noviello in ICE custody has brought even more attention to the issue, raising questions about the treatment of foreign nationals and the impact of toughened immigration policies under President Trump’s administration. This article explains what’s happening, why it matters, and what Canadians and their families need to know." Who is affected? Currently, about 55 Canadians are being held in ICE detention centers across the United States . These individuals include people with different backgrounds—some are long-term residents, others were visiting or working in the country, and a few have lived in the United States for decades. Why are they being detained? Canadians can end up in ICE custody for several reasons: – Immigration violations: Overstaying a visa, working without proper authorization, or entering the country without the right documents. – Criminal convictions: Even minor offenses can trigger detention, especially under stricter enforcement. – Pending deportation: Some are held while waiting for a decision on their removal from the United States . Where are they being held? Detained Canadians are spread across various ICE facilities, including a new, controversial detention center in Florida known as “Alligator Alcatraz.” This facility has become a symbol of the administration’s tougher stance on immigration enforcement. When did this start? While Canadians have occasionally been detained by ICE in the past, the numbers have risen sharply in 2025. This increase follows new executive orders and policy changes signed by President Trump, which have ramped up enforcement and detention efforts. How did this happen? The U.S. government has set much higher targets for ICE arrests. According to White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, ICE now aims for 3,000 arrests per day, compared to about 650 per day earlier in President Trump’s second term. This aggressive approach has led to more detentions, including of Canadians who may not have serious criminal backgrounds. The Tragic Case of Johnny Noviello The death of Johnny Noviello, a Canadian citizen, in ICE custody on June 23, 2025, has become a rallying point for critics of the current system. Noviello’s family and supporters say his case highlights the dangers and lack of proper care in detention centers. Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand expressed condolences to Noviello’s family and promised that Canadian officials are seeking more information about his death. This tragedy has raised urgent questions about: – Medical care in ICE facilities – Transparency – Communication between U.S. and Canadian authorities about what happens to detainees unquote Over 50 Canadians Held in ICE Custody Amid Legal Uncertainty Why is the Canadian government not doing something about this? Why even negotiate a trade deal while this is going on?1 point

No, they have not always been this way. Not in my youth and younger days anyway. Things in parliament were considerably more collegial among MPs of all parties. There was more of a sense of dignity to the place and more respect among them. I would say it began to die during the Mulroney rein, brought about by the Liberal "rat pack'. Things have steadily deteriorated since then. Now we're at the point where the NDP seem to have gladly committed political suicide in a desperate effort to avoid the Conservatives getting into power, despite, on a realistic level, them not really being all that much different from the Liberals on 90% of topics. Yet to hear the likes of Singh and others in the NDP AND Liberals talk, if the Tories had gotten in, Canada would have been instantly plunged into a dystopian nightmare.1 point

No, it's fact. I agree that Trump has shut the border down far better than Biden ever did. Despite deploying innumerable staff from other agencies to assist in enforcement activities and ordering active-duty military to facilitate removals at the border, the Department of Homeland Security’s claims of record arrests and deportations never materialized. This didn’t stop this administration from announcing in an April 28, 2025, press release that its immigration arrests and deportations had “already surpassed the entirety of Fiscal Year 2024 [numbers], and we’re just 100 days into this administration.” These claims were not simply untrue but preposterous. Biden’s actual FY 2024 record of 272,000 removals was over twice DHS’s claimed number of 135,000 removals during its first 100 days. So by no means had this administration’s claimed record “already surpassed the entirety of Fiscal 2024.” But even these claims were gross exaggerations. Instead of 135,000 removals, the Trump administration’s actual number was only around 72,000 removals. Or using an apples-to-apples comparison, Trump’s average daily rate of removals currently is around one (1) percent below what was Biden’s average daily rate of removals. That's why Trump said he loves the poorly uneducated. They'll believe anything he says1 point

That's the way it is with every lefty. When @TreeBeard doesn't have a real argument he simply turns to accusing the other person of being in human. Irrational person would realize that if we trash our economy there won't be money for social programs and we are quick approaching that point, but if anyone dares point that out it suggests we need to be more cautious than obviously the only conclusion can be that they don't want people to have clean teeth or health. It's so much easier than making an intelligent argument1 point

https://wibc.com/108211/pew-study-white-liberals-disproportionately-suffer-from-mental-illness/ Survey data from a 2020 Pew poll indicates that white liberals disproportionately suffer from mental illness versus their conservative counterparts. The study, which examined white liberals, moderates, and conservatives, both male and female, found that conservatives were far less likely to be diagnosed with mental health issues than those who identified as either liberal or even “very liberal.” Young white women suffered the worst. White women, ages 18-29, who identified as liberal were given a mental health diagnosis from medical professionals at a rate of 56.3%, as compared to 28.4% in moderates and 27.3% in conservatives. Doesn't it just make sense now, why posters like @eyeball, @ExFlyer, @robosmith, @Rebound, @Hodad, @CrakHoBarbie etc are so easily manipulated by MSM disinformation? And why they're so resistant to facts? They're just not healthy upstairs. If we're being honest, we know it, just no one came out and said it.1 point

If we agree that there's value in a public broadcaster - as a supermajority of wealthy open democracies do - we can talk about building a new frame for news and entertainment. As R. Buckminster Fuller indicated, it's best to build a new structure beside the old one. Once the new one is functional, the old one will be redundant.1 point

Of course it was illegal to arrest him. He was a permanent resident for 34 years. He was on probation but following the conditions of his probation. So he was arbitrarily arrested because of something in his past record, not his present behavior or situation. The legal system is completely non-existent to protect people from arbitrary arrest and detention. You are defending a totalitarian, corrupt system.1 point

1. The thread is pretty specific. And, yes, if you're bringing up conspiracies to add to the agenda I can give the response that is: "this is not important". As for 'unity'... I do think that's an important issue. If you think it is, then frame the problem properly before starting a discussion. If you forgot, this thread is about people (apparently) saying that reconciliation is not worth discussing in schools... so that is "we need to stop talking about this" as well - but from your side. 2. Right, and in this I agree with your complaint to a degree and your objection to the fabric of what "Canada Day" is. But it's a general gripe, and only tenuously tied to what is taught in schools. I mean, you seem to say "we have a truth and reconciliation day".. so if you agree with that, presumably you want to explain to the kids why they're staying home to watch Paw Patrol that day. But as a complaint along the lines of "people make too much of this"... yeah, sure. 3. Me neither. I also don't see anything anywhere that tells people how to feel, at least from official circles. Individuals may express moral outrage over our relationship with First Nations etc. but that's just a voice, expressing an opinion. 4. I don't like myths etiher but I think we have to allow groups to have their myths since G*d knows Christians have 40 loaves and fishes worth. 5. Agreed. 6. Because you are on the other side of the line, clearly. I don't think asking people to think about something is divisive, but characterizing people who are asking for that as teaching hatred of Canada is more so, IMO.1 point

No, i'm not, this is the message your sending in my opinion....Most of what any government does is shaped by public opinion, because they want to extend their time in office, this is basic politics 101, and for decades our military has not even been in the top 10 concerns for the public let alone the governments... So yes the public owns a good share of the blame here for past government actions. and then there is the lack of any action from the public, about the current status of the military, or it's treatment of the vets...i find it hilarious that the public can find time to support Palestinian terrorists, or regimes like Iran, with protests, stand ins, but can't find the time to support any of our security apparatus which does more for this nation than any other group in Canada for what seems like an ungrateful people... Not sure what you think can be done by the military public has participation in any unauthorized political event or any protest can end up with career ending results and military charges with a monetary value. as for Vets or retired military personal, they do have a voice and have used it for decades you just have not heard it perhaps due to your lack of interest. The fact that the media has saturated the news market with our militaries condition and still people are not concerned or don't care.1 point

I wonder that too. I also wonder: For all the good conservatives want to do why does so much of their rhetoric seem so divisive? In general, our politics are too divisive and partisan, but I think they've always been like that with some exceptions. What's the alternative?1 point

1. No, it's a statement saying which problems/issues we should and shouldn't discuss according to you. Your frequent type of argument for problems you don't want people to discuss is "we need to stop talking about this, because problems X and Y are more important". This is a red herring fallacy, also known as "whattaboutism". If you'd like to talk about education cuts and tax breaks for the rich (they exist in Canada?) you're free to create your own thread discussing them. 2. I don't think there's some "conspiracy", which denotes some secret planned agreement among a group of people. There's a bunch of people in this country, from politicians to educators, typically those we call "progressives", who can't celebrate Canada Day without including an asterisk about how we should feel a bunch of shame and guilt about past wrongs on a day meant for celebration. We have 364 other days to acknowledge past wrongs, including a holiday in Sept literally dedicate to that. Canada Day is meant for celebrating this country and all the good it entails. Sometimes I leave the toilet seat up and snore in my sleep but my birthday party isn't the time to bring those things up.1 point

Your under the opinion that this is the military fault they did this to themselves....an organization that is subservient to the federal government. It has no choice to obey the government wishes and commands, that's how this democracy works...not doing so would mean a military overthrow of the government , thats not happening... I have no more power or position than you do, making change here in Canada requires millions...and while millions of Canadians do want a properly funded military they lack the will to take action...But i will tell you this, if carney even goes through with just small portion of his plan, people are watching , vets are watching, members are watching thats a shit ton of voters....that will change their vote to see more attention spent on our nation...1 point

But we did buy 4 totally useless submarines from the Brits and you do not want to know what the overall cost was and still going strong. I have a friend who was ex-Navy working on them. The Brits moth-balled them a few years after they were built. What does that tell you? I remember being in Halifax and Esquimalt when two of them were in dry dock being upgraded. Talk about a make-work project pi$$ing your tax dollars away. And every time we get equipment, we always need to Canadianize them (in order to create jobs in Canada) and they are almost always a total failure. Buy "off the shelf" items that are proven to work, who cares where they are made in another NATO country. The CF guys in the field will thank you for stuff that works!1 point

Ahhhh, great question:... what came first; the chicken or the leftard? I think that, just like some kids grow up being told to believe everything that they hear in their church, synagogue, mosque, temple, etc, some kids grow up being taught to believe everything that they see on CNN without question. If you were completely unable to filter out CNN BS you'd be clinging to life thanks to the help of the precious covid jabs, your dad's F-150 exhaust would be destroying the planet while Leo Di Caprio's jet exhaust and the pollution from his yacht were somehow saving it, M Brown & G Floyd would still just be considered gentle giants who were murdered by racist cops, AR-15s would be the greatest threat to your life, etc, etc. Anyone who lives under the umbrella of CNN bullshit is guaranteed to be depressed and stupid.1 point
