  6. This morning around breakfast time I was listening to a heartwarming program on CBC radio. How we manage staying positive in these difficult times? I'm taking online piano lessons! And I tried ballet and already mastered several turns (forgot the term)! Listening to it was so nice and positive but for some reason the association that came to me was "they don't have any bread - but why wouldn't they get the brioches?!". Some of us, isolated from our offices, having to stare at the screen some time during the day, suffering the closure of the favorite restaurant and a postponement of an annual vacation (maybe) and trying to stay positive simply cannot imagine that taking ballet lessons may not enter the mind of a human being who just lost most of their income, security, possibly the direction and facing unknown prospects for unforeseeable time. Are these two different worlds, and are they drifting further and further apart, despite the heartwarming efforts and in it together promises? Almost daily example: another hospital CEO was let go today after traveling south of the border no less than 5 times in the recent months, while reprimanding his stuff for failing to observe PH guidelines. And another one (from daily Facebook feed): a compassionate program by something public is actively trying to recruit resident support staff for LTC. The work is on as-needed basis, no assurance of minimal hours, $17 / hour, no vacation and benefits and little job security. Very compassionate and generous, thank you. And so: are we getting there, slowly but steadily to the heartwarming tunes of togetherness? Two worlds, two standards, two mentalities that wouldn't intersect, and understand each other, and interact on the terms like above, oh you're having problems? But why wouldn't you take ballet lessons? And here's our wonderful foodbank thanks to our generous donations! Elitism is an old problem of democracy. Isolation in its own world in the ivory tower, failure to know and understand the problems and concerns of little people below led to so many events that it will take books only to count, and who's there to say, won't lead again and again? And so, is it possible to build a democracy that is alive; agile; active; open; continuous; non-elitist and egalitarian? Should it be tried, again and again? And if status quo is the best we can get, how long would it last before deteriorating into its opposite?

  7. Isolation and self-isolation can have many facets, from psychological (why not if we can) to matters of wealth and status. Clearly, in a free market society some part of wealth is created through free exchange so I have difficulty calling it inherently unfair. But what if wider society attempted to balance wealth inequality that is common in free markets rather than giving in to it fully and wholeheartedly? Look at this country's public service for example, it is almost accomplished corporation complete with $M CEOs, only on the public budged and in its name. And I have to agree that it is probably related to human or rather biological nature. And for that reason, likely to manifest at every phase and level of development, can't beat the genes. And yet, if a perfect non-elitist and egalitarian society cannot be created from get-go, could democracy at least evolve its goals and horizons regularly or even continuously rather than focus on two numbers?

  15. 1) We hear things like "All climate scientists agree that blah blah blah" but we never see actual climatologists say anything of the sort. 2) Can you show me an updated version of the hockey stick graph? Are there any cute, cuddly polar bears left? 3) People like you knew that the election was 100% legit right on election night because they said it over and over on CNN, right? Don't you find it the least bit odd that the DNC and CNN told us for 4 straight years that the 2016 was definitely stolen, and then they somehow knew by 10 pm on election night that the 2020 election was guaranteed free from fraud? How did they know that MH? They were the world's foremost skeptics as of Jan 02 2020, and then suddenly within 24 hours they believed in the integrity of elections like Eric Swallwell believes in the integrity of Chinese spies. Are Dem supporters really in a position to act like it's crazy to doubt the results of an election? We're 4 months and 4 days away from May 16 2021. Seems like we still have lots of room to cast doubts. Especially when you consider how many times the Dems were caught actually cheating on recent elections, and their penchant for voter-fraud-friendly regulations. Did you know that the Dems were trying to implement the mass-mailing of ballots long before covid? And that they successfully pushed through laws which removed the need for people's signatures to match the signatures on file for them at the state? And that they think that requiring ID at the pooling boots is racist? With all of their new laws, how could they possibly believe in election integrity? What do you think prevents me from going through people's mailboxes and grabbing their ballots in a state where the signatures don't have to match? If the Dems were just some party that you never heard of before from Lithuania then you'd instantly see through all of their bogus election scams, but because you believe orange man bad you pre-emptively endorse all of the Demonrats' questionable election law changes before the ink is dry, don't you.

  22. I found this oldie which I think was an inspiration to Tears of The Sun (Bruce Willis). It stars Rod Taylor and is about mercenaries and Simba rebels during the Congo crisis. It's titled "Dark of The Sun." Critics at the time, condemned it for its graphic depiction of violence and torture. But it was reality. Fifty years ago, Stanleyville in the Congo was the scene of one of the most savage crimes of the last century, the cold-blooded massacre of hostages by the Simba rebels. Mercenary soldiers from 5 Commando under the leadership of Lt Colonel Mike Hoare, probably the most famous merc officer since World War 2, had been unable to prevent the tragedy. But in the days to come, they saved hundreds of hostages from a tortured death, and helped restore peace to that troubled land. https://www.sofmag.com/the-stanleyville-massacre/ https://ok.ru/video/1405086141126

  24. Nope, a much bigger worry is a kind of health dictatorship where even relatively minor public health concerns swallow all government and public resources, destroying livelihoods, imprisoning the general public under house arrest, and imposing a kind of subsistence income for "the greater good.". This is the worst kind of dystopia and straight out of Orwell. No thanks. There must be constitutional protection of property, freedom of movement. and livelihoods. No government initiative should mount such an excess of restrictions, except perhaps under extreme circumstances and conditions with time limits. Restrictions must work with basic human rights, never overriding them.

What you stand for is absolutely repugnant. Your support is 10,000% percent unwelcome here,"

The defense of their man is that everybody who disagrees is a liar, including the entire western press (save for some Hardcore Propaganda channels) that anyone who changed their mind on him was bribed by the deep state... that there's a massive global network of secret spies out to stop him from making his nation into paradise on earth. It's just a dumb sickness and it can't sustain. I know it's tempting to try to reason with them, though, I do it too.

Photos and video show the word “TRUMP” etched into the manatee’s back in large block letters. .... Manatees are currently classified as a threatened species in Florida. They were considered endangered until 2017. 29. Like I said this is that thing you guys do where you invent something and then say “how do you know it’s not true”. Its 100% certain that Trumps campaign team - including Trump Jr, Jared “I can’t get a security clearance” Kushner and Paul “I work for foreign dictators and launder Russian money” Manifort - secretly met with Russian government envoys in Trump tower to negotiate getting their hands on the hacked DNC emails that the public. It’s also 100 % certain that they denied tje meeting occurred and told various changing lies about the meeting as the story unfolded once their emails surfaced and they got caught. And then they were like “oh ya we forgot to mention that, sorry no biggie”. It’s also 100% certain that when they were approached by said hostile foreign government that had just committed cybercrimes against a US presidential candidate they didn’t notify authorities but instead tried to make a detail for their own benefit. And they also knew in advance that the emails were going to be dumped on Wikileaks.

  33. Yup, it's obvious that the MSM(what I refer to these days as the media hoarde) has become the mouth piece of the Democratic party. Suppressing and downplaying some news, and then going off the rails whenever Trump is involved. I commented earlier that Trump, by encouraging his supporters to have some fight in them, was not inciting a riot. No one even bothered to argue that point, I'm assuming because after 4 years of being brainwashed, it's just so obvious to them.(unless Argus said something about it. But he's on ignore, so...) They just talk about my 'alternate reality" like Trump was calling for Pelosi's head. The delusion is getting alarming.
    1 point
  34. 1) They are basically encouraging discrimination with this kind of talk. 2) With all of the criticisms of the left that are floating around about socialism and communism, I have to say that this little tidbit really smacks of the kind of communism that China had in the '40s and '50s, where business owners and capitalists became the enemy. They began their policy of "at least one person in every town has to be killed for their capitalist ways." In Biden/Harris's case, you just replace 'capitalists' with 'white men'. 3) Honest to god, if there's some kind of white privilege going around are we to assume that 'white women' didn't benefit from it? I'm pretty sure that my sister grew up in the same house that I did, and had the same access to education that I did. 4) The only good news to come out of this for 'white men', is that now that we're in the business of evening things out, white men have definitely done more than their share of fighting and dying in wars in this country. Looks like it's everyone else's turn. Have fun dickheads.

  35. See, there's the problem with just pulling claims out your butt, Argus. I'm sure you think you said something demonstrably clever there, but speaking for those of us scratching their heads after reading that we only have a vague idea of what you're talking about. And speaking of out the butt claims. This idea that you know the life stories of those 52 arrested, that's one them, right? I heard a lot of those arrested were for curfew violations but I won't claim that until I have a source I'm comfortable supporting.

For those whose agenda won't allow them to click the expand button you don't want to miss this: "In August 2020 remarks to a small crowd at a Washington, D.C., intersection, Sullivan pointed to the nearby White House and unleashed a torrent of violent rhetoric. "We ... about to burn this s--- down," he said. "We gotta ... rip Trump right out of that office right there," he continued, adding, "We ain't about ... waiting until the next election." He then led the crowd in a chant of, "It's time for revolution."

  38. False. Hitler and Stalin never saw "eye to eye" on many things. The whole point in signing the non-aggression pact in August 1939, was to buy time for the Germans, so they could meticulously plan their attack on the Soviet Union, which if you read ANYTHING about history, you would know. The Nazis never planned on living up to the non-aggression pact.

    1 point
  41. I am more Libertarian than most, but let's also try to be pragmatic. First of all, we DO (or SHOULD) hold politicians to a far higher standard, because we elect them to lead us. IMHO that means presenting a public figure in line with what is policy and "for the greater good". Personal freedoms are a cornerstone of Western democracies, so it's not fair to assume these rights have been breached without just cause. If it was a matter of putting only yourself at risk, IMHO go for it. BUT: when the consequences of you travelling and not exercising due caution (un-necessary travel itself being the case) is that someone else could be come infected and/or deceased and YOUR treatment (as well as your victims') will cost the taxpayer a significant amount of money, it's time to make some kind of declaration of public emergency and suspend personal freedoms. The other consequence especially of poor examples being set by politicians is that everyone else gets the "if they can then I can" when business in general and owners in particular are being asked or demanded to make very expensive sacrifices for that one and same public good. Always remember that an elected politician is being paid by US, not doing things on his or her own nickel.
