  1. That it doesn't exist in the minds of the urban leftists who swell the ranks of the national media is certainly beyond question. But these people are not Canada. They don't even know Canada. I guarantee you there are more people upset at him being fired than taking satisfaction in it. But you won't see them represented in the national media.

  4. I brought it up because YOU guys refuse to accept anecdotal evidence, yet insist we accept your's. That's YOUR standard - not mine. When many women are telling stories of being treated horribly by Muslim men, I consider that. It's YOU who does not.

  6. Then you need to get out more, instead of sharing these shortsighted remarks. My inlaws are a military family and they voted Liberal. They weren't happy about everything on the Liberal platform, but there were more negatives on the Conservative side. My wife who voted liberal is also well accomplished. She has been working since she was 14, is highly educated and has never worked at a coffee shop. To me, it sounds like you live in a bubble where you consume yourself with labeling people based on caricatures created for people within that bubble. It's a shame that people, in all areas of the political spectrum, consume themselves with these bs labels.

  10. Sorry but pointing out something about immigrants which we all know to be true is not xenophobic. The poppy is basically a symbol of our remembrance for our past and our ancestors, and our traditions. Immigrants clearly don't share any of that, and why would they? They didn't grow up with it, and today's schools only teach that Canada's history is the history of Nazis, racists and evil homophobes anyway.

  11. It's not only you but some of the others that have crossed the line in this topic, the others we already know are racist.... second point is your name PPC2019, the PPC already have an image problem, and your racist comments are not doing the party any favors except solidifying their opinions we are ALL racist....we don't need any more racists in the party, your rants are only going to attract more racists, and wingnuts. I'm sure that was not the intention of Mr. Bernier. Nor was it the intent of his platform... 3 rd you didn't stop at racism , you had to throw in the pictures as well, crossing another line... I've read your postings on this topic and didn't appreciate them, and I'm not the only one... as evident by other comments on this post...grow the F*** up...

  13. You could, but Don Cherry has been Don Cherry out in the open for decades, not hiding "blackface" in the shadows until exposed. Cherry goes out standing tall....same as he ever was.

  14. If they fired him without a chance to clarify his statement, then I'd agree he shouldn't be fired. Both him and Ron Maclean were given the opportunity to apologize. One still has a job, one doesn't.

  15. He said so in an interview last night, after he was fired. Perhaps he can still get his job back, but he'll need to eat some crow. He said "You people. . . Come Here". Easily identifiable as immigrants.

  16. Don Cherry had the chance to apologize, he choose not to. Therefore he can be fired with cause. Saying "You People . . . Come Here to the Land of Milk and Honey" is clearly identifying immigrants, and therefore xenophobic. If he really wasn't singling out immigrants he could have clarified his statements. But he didn't. As noble as the Poppy is, it shouldn't be used a litmus test to how much you love Canada. Those people died for the freedom to wear the poppy, or not to.

  19. The reality of our pissy health care system, is a guy waiting six years for an operation to relieve a terrible condition which almost confines him to his house. And how much time was spent on it in the last election? None. About the same amount spent in the last provincial election. When Bill Bagyan was woken earlier this month, lying in a hotel room he'd paid for himself after making yet another drive to Ottawa from his home in Kingston, and was told told in sorrowful tones by a hospital staffer that he was once again being bumped from surgery, the first thing he thought of was climbing the stairs to the roof and jumping off. It has been six years since doctors first accurately diagnosed what was making it so painfully difficult for Bagyan to urinate. What they'd thought was an enlarged prostate was in fact a buildup of scar tissue blocking his urethra. For the first few years, his urologist repeatedly tried to clear it out, inserting catheters and scopes and even a scope with miniature scissors into his penis, working up to his bladder. Each time, the scar tissue would just thicken. "He was making it worse," says Bagyan, in the deliberate, fatigued cadence of someone for whom pain and discomfort never abates. He needed surgery. But only a few surgeons in Canada had the training necessary to operate. So patient Bill Bagyan entered the twilight world of the Canadian waiting list – a place of voicemails and messages and sitting on hold for an hour at a time. https://www.cbc.ca/news/opinion/opinion-bill-bagyan-health-care-neil-macdonald-1.5355707

  22. Don Cherry being fired by SN on Rememberance Day - that's tough to watch. Despite an obvious shortsightedness on an issue he should have been better educated about - he's done so much for Canadian veterans. Fact this came out on November 11t is sad. Right decision, wrong day. It is sad seeing Cherry go down in flames. There are ways to have difficult conversations about our society and what we should value without sowing divisiness. --- Here is an article from a brown sportswriter which I believe shows an interesting angle and perspective: https://theathletic.com/1369550/2019/11/11/basu-don-cherry-was-always-a-problem-why-it-took-canada-so-long-to-see-it/ Here is a part of it: The reason I decided to express an opinion on this man I spend most of my time trying to forget is that I felt an important nuance of what he said Saturday night was being lost. And it was being lost because in order to hear it, you need a bit of a trained ear. And frankly, in the Canadian sports media, there is a decided lack of trained ears. When Ron MacLean began Sunday night’s “Hometown Hockey” broadcast with an apology, one I took as sincere, he said something that sums up the problem. If you watch the segment of “Coach’s Corner” in question (I will not link to it, you can find it yourself at this point), you will note that MacLean did not even flinch when Cherry mentioned the words “you people” in reference to people who are new to Canada. There are all sorts of reasons why MacLean should not only have flinched, but pounced. How did Cherry know the people he saw walking around downtown Toronto and Mississauga without poppies were immigrants? Were they wearing signs? Or did they look a certain way and he, in his infinite wisdom, assumed that to be the case?

  24. The pumpingest of all was Le Strip in Hull. We'd drive to Ottawa, get rooms at the Chateau Laurier, then hit the Market. We'd pick up in the Market, then at last call, we'd go to Quebec, where it was just packed and pumping hard. Then we'd take the girls back to the hotel, we wouldn't tell them it was the Laurier, so they were impressed We were high rolling on army cash saved while we were in the field.

  25. Don Cherry is a Canadian icon. A straight shooter who does not pull any punches. Support the troops and remember your war dead by wearing a poppy on Remembrance Day has always been a Canadian thing since the years after the First World War. Don Cherry said and did nothing wrong by reminding the people of Canada to do so. It is so typical of the Marxists who have run Canada for years now to imply that there was something more sinister about Cherry’s comments because they are using the opportunity to again make their point by twisting his words to suit their agenda. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and all of the liberal politicians and sympathizers want a Canada that puts Muslims 1st. Remember Trudeau's father and former Prime Minister of Canada Pierre E. Trudeau was responsible for forcing “multiculturalism” into Canadian culture, a disastrous mistake for Canada and Canadians but a great policy for further dividing and conquering the Canadian people along racial, cultural and ethnic lines. "Multiculturalism" is just another term for “Cultural Marxism” imop. To any patriotic Canadians reading this I say wear your poppy till Christmas and support Don Cherry and support a Canada free of these vile Marxists who think they own you and the whole country.

  26. The funny part is, Budweiser is the sponsor who had him fired, Anheuser-Busch. So it was America who gave the final order to kill Coach's Corner. Don Cherry fired on Remembrance Day, by Corporate America. Manifest Destiny.

  29. You can’t paint a whole group of people with the same brush. There is high culture and crudeness among all ethnicities. Some cultures are historically more progressive or sophisticated than others, but everyone is unique and accountable for their own merits. Nevertheless we need to cut each other some slack and not be so quick to condemn. Some are more privileged than others, but that doesn’t mean people can be or should be made equal through social engineering. Differences aren’t a bad thing unless we start creating false dichotomies and turning some people into angels and others into demons. Yes sometimes we have to separate people from society through the prison system and sometimes people cross lines and require discipline. Do I think Cherry crossed a line? Yes. Do I think he should be fired for it? No. I’ll bet you the man who pulled the trigger on Cherry is half the man Don Cherry is. Meanwhile our Prime Minister has been caught in blackface at least three different times, but he apologizes so well...

  30. He meant what he said because it has truth to it. He is no racist he just says it as he sees it. I see where I live which is where he is from the same thing.

  31. He wasn't fired because he offended hockey fans. He was fired because the network honchos were terrified that THEY would be attacked for being less than woke if they didn't fire him. And for the most party you can't work in the mainstream media in Canada, even behind the scenes, if you're accused of being anything other than desperately progressive. Callout culture now, as implemented by the authoritarian Left, does not tolerate the slightest utterance of politically incorrect thoughts. Anyone they catch doing so gets mobbed, and if they're immune to it then the mob goes after their employer. Most of the people who are bothered by what he said never watch hockey and never will anyway. Nor do they wear poppies. Nor are they immigrants. They're entitled, relatively well-off white liberals wallowing in their own smug sense of moral superiority.
