https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/14/business/gillette-masculinity-ad/index.html You may think the term "Toxic Masculinity" is just a way to attack testosterone and I tend to agree. But in the instance of this ad, I'm not sure. The idea of hand waving awful behaviour with the "boys will be boys" excuse is actually rather immoral. And more people should speak out when guys threat other people (not just women, but peers) in a degrading way. The story of Hazing and Sexual at an Elite College in Toronto (St. Mikes) is a perfect example of how this way of thinking is way too prevalent in society. But then there's a fine line between "locker room" talk and abuse. But ads like this are very good for the discussion.1 point

Voting for "change" means nothing. Change can be any of a million things, in many different directions. Ask 10 people about what they would like to see changed and you'll get 20 different answers. There's two things that win votes in America: providing entertainment and controversy, which Trump excels at, and promising free stuff, which a Democrat challenger will likely try to do. She'd win in a landslide in liberal areas, and be rejected in a landslide everywhere else. Electoral map would look the same as always but probably even more starkly divided than usual. As for not being afraid to say what she thinks, of course she's not afraid, she's in a super safe seat for that kind of rhetoric.1 point

Meh, you overestimate people. Just like in ancient times, people just want bread and circuses. Trump is great at the circus part, at least.1 point

Definitely Joe Biden. Perhaps Andrew Cuomo. Even Michael Bloomberg. The problem is that Democrats have been decimated at the local and state levels, as well as in Washington until this past election. So there isn't a deep bench of governors or legislators that they can draw from.1 point

Not going to happen...not the most important issue despite media talking heads who actually want more conflict to drive ratings. Obama did not "unify" the country..."unification" is way overrated.1 point

There's another aspect to this selection. People should be looking for someone who can unite the country, not further divide it. Harris would further divide it, and solidify the division that Trump has been working so hard at. https://www.businessinsider.com/seal-william-mcraven-who-slammed-trump-eyed-for-spot-on-2020-ticket-2018-81 point

I had briefly (mercifully) forgotten India. This is a country growing very fast, democratic, western focused, almost as big as China, and instead of focusing on trying to grow trade with them his government deliberately insults them by suggesting their secret service somehow was responsible for their own MP inviting a terrorist to come and meet everyone.1 point

Only problem with that strategy is that Trump and his supporters do not get embarrassed....they get even...or ahead.1 point

I doubt there is any conspiracy and I probably would think Betsy does not really think there is one either but there is a very real bias by this government in favour of pandering to ethnic communities for the next election vote using an open door immigration policy. That is real. Its blatant and it sells out the security and best interests of all Canadians including new Canadians in favour of trying to pander for ethnic votes. I would hope Canadians understand Trudeau is pandering and they do not allow him to use their ethnicity to pander for votes. The photoop with the Foreign Minister and the latest cause of the week teenager refugee was absolute and utter bullshit and if you think a policy should be determined by a Minister saying "she reminds me of my daughter" get real. You think Canada can take in every teenager on this planet who disagrees with their parents in other countries? Get real. You think we have a budget for that much Clearasil. You may have to donate some of yours Eye.1 point

Sorry but those complex arguments don't pass the 15 second media soundbite... so Dems will lose on this one. It seems odd that the left is more concerned about Trump breaking his campaign promises yet his supporters themselves don't seem to care at all. In fact, quite the opposite... they love the success he's had. Especially, in the face of such intense liberal adversity, making each victory, each exposition of liberal shallow depth, liberal bias, unfair influence, cheating, corruption, hypocrisy on their own talking points, all the more sweet. These liberal hotheads have nearly set themselves on fire. One more Trump victory and heads will explode! Kinda neat to watch... from a distance. Wouldn't know about the Bill Maher show... we don't get that around here and I probably wouldn't watch anyway if we did. Point is, it means nothing to those who support the overall direction Trump is moving America in. They hope that he keeps that up as much as possible, and don't care how many whores he has or hasn't fondled.1 point

Scotts, Welsh, English, Irish, French, Dutch, Belgian, German, Spanish, Czech, Slovakian, Polish, Ukrainian, European Jewish, Romanian, Bulgarian, Greek, Russian, Chinese Indo-Pakistani-Sri-Lankan, , Korean, Indonesian, Fillipino, Ssuth and Central American, African, Asian, and don't forget people from Toga, you seem to have shortened your minority list. More than Paesanos came to Canada after WW2. Your history seems a tad selective. You also miss the point of this thread. Its about the lack of objective criteria being used to determine who can come into Canada. The current government is allowing people to push in ahead of law abiding individuals patiently waiting in line to come in. That is the issue. Those paesanos you talk about lined up, took jobs no one wanted, did not go to the government for assistance and lived in neighbourhoods with other ethnics and didn't have a philosophy that ridiculed the basic fundamental values of democracy but supported it. They didn't ask for any favours and did not disrespect their parents. They brought their parents with them and looked after them. You know any paesanos? You ever met one? You think they all live in Woodbridge? Lol. Listen, I can only imagine what ethnic group you come from to change the topic and point at Paesanos but your comments are as silly as Majo's trying to turn this into an issue of illiterate CBSA officers. This is an issue about lack of objective immigration policy and lack of proper security screening.1 point

Trump already said many times that the fate of "dreamers" was Congress' responsibility...Obama's DACA is/was unconstitutional. So Trump has offered to cover Congress' ass yet again on matters of illegal immigration as they refuse to act because of severe political consequences back home.1 point

Didn't the Dems demand this very thing not too long ago? Sounds to me like Trump is giving them what they want, so why isn't it a win for them? In other words why don't they want it now? Because it's not about the idea, but who is selling it. Whoever provides the solution is the winner. There's no way that Dems are going to let Trump look like he's got a win, even if it means they keep the government shut down. Meanwhile all Trump's gotta do is keep offering solutions that will make him look good, knowing the Dems cannot accept them. You've heard of an offer you cannot refuse? He's making them offers, they cannot accept. And when they refuse, he wins. Dems have no choice but to refuse, and look bad. So they now own the shutdown.1 point

And many of the potheads aren't impressed either as pot legalization hasn't been very, well, efficient. Okay, part of the problem rests with the provinces. Many believe Ontario's rollout has been a boon for the traditional illegal distribution industry. And Trudeau has done nothing so far to resolve the issues faced by those with minor pot possession records. Further, legalization has been accompanied by the implementation of a new and rather draconian impairment testing regime that many believe won't stand up to a Charter challenge.1 point

I think you're confused. A lot of Chinese already vote Conservative, and always have. A lot of Indo-Canadians to too. More Hindus than Sikhs. Muslims vote Liberal. I'm sure some political operative has a full breakdown somewhere but I haven't seen one. I have pointed out before that immigrants make up 20% of the population. And when public opinion polls are taken, no one exempts them. So when you see polls showing 2/3rds of respondents want face covering laws like Quebec, or 49% say there's too much immigration, those numbers include immigrants. That means either the numbers are considerably higher for just white Canadians, or a lot of immigrants also think there's too much immigration - especially from the wrong places. I guarantee you Chinese people don't think much of Arab immigrants, or anyone from Africa. Watching a bunch of border crossers largely made up of Haitians, Somalians and Nigerians is guaranteed to provoke them. The Chinese, by and large, pride themselves on being hard workers. They do not see these groups as being hard working AT ALL. They also see them as all too often being criminals involved in violent street crime, drugs and prostitution. Plus Africa in general is pretty much a pathetic crap hole, and the Chinese will inevitably blame Africans for that and figure they're a pathetic bunch of people. Another thing. The Hong Kong Chinese, who have been here longer, often don't think much of the newer flood of Chinese, who are from the Mainland. They regard them as crass, ill-mannered and uneducated.1 point

Ban all religions and make it illegal to regularly perform the activities associated with that religion, such as attending religious services, reading scripture, participating in rituals, or following the religious's rules about clothing, eating, or prayer. That would stop immigration of most of the undesirables, and stop the dumbing down of societies .Religion divides humanity and poses the greatest threat to our progress. History speaks for itself.1 point

Idealpolitik they are the world's First Post Soviet Marxist State. Realpolitik, it's just Liberal Elites from Toronto and Montreal stealing the NDP's Post Soviet Marxist platform, to box the NDP out, which then boxes the Tories out, because the Tories can't win unless the left is split, resulting in another de facto Liberal dictatorship for another generation.1 point
