I asked Charles to come forward and tell me what rules I was breaking by referring to Steve Harper as a big fat slob. He has stonewalled.
You are referring to your Stephen Harper Greets the Other Amigos Wearing Khakis, The Prime Minister's appearance thread. I never said you broke any rules.

I changed your "Steve" to "Stephen" for the sake of accuracy and your "fat slob" to "appearance" in a wishful attempt to avoid fostering an inflamatory non-political discussion and to increase the chances of somebody finding that thread in the event that they were looking for a well-balanced discussion of the Prime Minister's appearance.

Folks, we all know that Charles is a card-carrying Conservative.
Stop with the insults.

Furthermore, as BC_2004 pointed out, third party insults directed towards political parties are against the forum rules too.

I have a PM from him saying he hates socialists - yes Charles, I did take a screenshot of it.
You are referring to our interchange where I helped you sort out some problems you had formating quotes in this post last year. I walked you through the entire edits. After you thanked me for helping you clearly present your political arguments with the layout of the quotes, I said: "When it comes to online forums, I hate bad formatting more than anything else -- even more than I hate socialists!!!!" just to tease you. Be my guest and show the screen-shot of that message to anybody you want. I still have all of those messages and your replies stored in my PM mailbox.
We also know that Charles was appointed mod because he was performing yeoman service helping discombobulated members disentangle themselves from the forum software. But is that enough?

The question is - now that he is has been appointed referee, can he refrain from handling the puck? Apparently not. Here we have him putting down his skate and redirecting a shot away from the home team's goal.

Hmmmm.

Feel free to discuss this amongst yourselves.

We do not have time for a meeting of the flat earth society.

A while back the right were complaining that he was to hard on them and then the left started complaining he's to hard on them. Well if both sides are complaining I'd say he's stayed solidedly in the middle and did his job as a "Moderate Mod".

IMHO, for what it's worth, I think Charles is doing a good job moderating and I think Higgly is offbase in his/her criticsm and is also wrong to start these various threads.

It is impossible to police all breaches of the rules but that's no reason not to apply any rule at all.

As to Charles' political opinions, I have debated him on several occasions on this forum before he became a moderator. I think he is too idiosyncratic to be simply classified as left or right. In any case, that's neither here nor there because his actions as a moderator seem to be mostly technical and straightforward.

Can we get beyond this nombrilisme?

Let's just preserve that for posterity. Even money says you don't last the month.

The difference between you and me princess is that I don't give a damn if I last a month.

<<edit>>

Hot damn, I can't believe I missed an opportunity to say this.

Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn.

Yee-haw!

A well-balanced duscussion might evolve from the pinball rattling around at the margins. It cetainly won't emerge from a tilt by the guy who runs the arcade, Charles.

What do you speak of?

Can you see how he is arbitrating or how he mediates and under what basis and how he goes about settling a dispute, possibly even in a unilateral fashion?

Well, considering that both right and left wing peopel are pissed off, I'm going to say he's doing a good job enforcing the rules Greg didn't have the resources to do himself. He's not favouring either side, just favouring those that follow the rules over those that don't.

Charles is doing a great job.

Well, actually yes. I was told to stop transcribing Chretien's verbalizations several years ago due to complaints from an offended party.

However, describing Jean Chretien's manner of speech as a "ridiculously mangled Franglais patois" is not mocking or insulting. It's an objective fact.

Please, Chretien is North America's Winston Churchill.

I've read through this thread and I'm surprised and disappointed at some of the responses.

Charles is doing a great job moderating and I think the forums are better because of his moderation. His attention to detail is one of the reasons he's such a good moderator. His application of the rules and guidelines in this forum is not tainted by bias and anyone who suggests otherwise is clearly wrong.

Furthermore, if anyone has a problem with the forum and or the moderation of the forum, please take these issues up with me personally. The News and Announcements section of the forums is here for news and announcements relating to the forum and Maple Leaf Web, not questioning moderation style.

Have any issues, problems using the forum? Post a message in the Support and Questions section of the forums.

Hmm. Then I should probably hold off on posting a thread here entitled "Charles Anthony's pants: what the hell was he thinking?" (Though to be fair, no one looks good in pleated fronts.)

I'd suggest that somebody who goes on a 2-day temper-tantrum because somebody edited their thread title should probably take a moment to step back and reflect on their life.

I don't agree. I think that alteration of a thread title is a crisis event in someone's life.

I think you have been doing a good job as well Chuck, but you had no reason (other than possible partisanship) to change Steve to Stephen.

How about it's the way he spells his name. How about if I referred to you as "Skankyhands"?

Does that mean no more of this as well?:

What did Osama Obama say?

P.S. I think Charles is doing a great job.

Almost three thousand people died needlessly and tragically at the World Trade Center on September 11; ten thousand Africans die needlessly and tragically every single day-and have died every single day since September 11-of AIDS, TB, and malaria. We need to keep September 11 in perspective, especially because the ten thousand daily deaths are preventable.

Skankyhands isn't the shortened form of Shakeyhands is it. Calling Steve, well Steve, is something even his closest friends do....

Unless the person named Stephen had explained that he prefers to be called Stephen, not Steve. Proper ettiquette dictates that the wish of the person be respected.

In response to an interview about Bush's familiar "Steve" reference to our PM, Harper mentioned something about his mother not being happy about him being called Steve.

Besides, some detractors of Harper - who definitely cannot be called his friends - call him "Steve" with the intent at sarcastic dis-respect pertaining to his amiable association with Bush.
