John Stone Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 Congratulations to the U.S. squad in winning the Gold. Great goaltending - 42 shots on the net!! I'd remind everyone that Canada took home the Gold in ............................................men's curling. 1 1 Quote

TreeBeard Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 I’d feel a little dirty winning a hockey tournament with 3 on 3 overtime. They “won gold”. Quote

It’s not America’s fault that Canada lacks justification to be an independent nation. The irony being Canada justify its own ineptitude as justification of why it can’t win while failing to see that same reason is why it shouldn’t be an independent country. Seriously, what’s Canada excuse for not winning, not enough population, not enough money for training, not enough for NATO etc… so why are you even a country? The irony is rich. If the USA outshot Canada 42-28 and won 5-2 you could say that they were on pace to steal our cultural identity, but this is no different from when Hasek beat Canada twenty-some years ago. Their goalie stole this win for them. FYI giving up 42 SOG in one hockey game is really bad. Before the US got their 4-min PP at the end of the 3rd Canada had twice as many shots on net as the US did. If the US world juniors teams beat Canada's best WJ teams then you could say they were catching up, but the last time the US won the WJC it was because the US had all of their best players, while Conor Bedard, Macklin Celebrini and Zack Benson were already full-time NHLers at 18 years old. Bedard and Celebrini had 130 points in the NHL that season. FYI that's high production for 27 year olds, and there still isn't a full-time NHLer from that US WJC team two years later. The last time team Canada had all of their eligible players at the WJC was during the lockout in 2005, when Canada outscored their opposition 33-6 and won every game. The US went 3-4 that year, and was outscored 28-27 in that tournament. The Russian team that beat the US 7-2 in the semi-final lost 6-1 to Canada in the final. That's what team domination looks like. The US just squeaked out an underdog win today because of a hot goalie. Did Argentina steal America's cultural identity in 2004 when they won the gold in basketball? I'll admit that the US is good at hockey, but they're still just whiny sore-losers who can occasionally pull off an upset. 1 Quote If the Cultist Narrative Network/Cultist Broadcasting Corporation gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of typewriters, leftists would believe everything they typed. bush_cheney2004 Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 I went to sleep just as the game began, fully expecting to wake up to a hard fought Canadian victory between the two best (NHL sourced) teams. Congratulations to the US team for winning the gold medal for the first time since 1980, something Canada has accomplished nine times, more than any other nation. Canada's silver medal is still a big deal and adds to the total of 16 (9 Gold, 4 Silver, 3 Bronze) men's hockey medals since 1920...that means Canada has been in 13 gold medal games. Yes, I understand that the gold medal standard matters so much more to Canadians, and it is bad luck that Sidney Crosby was out with an injury. 4 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Ignorant as that comment is, it's getting to the point where it's arguably true. If you're being honest though, the US was pretty close to having democracy slip away in 2024... After having a dementia patient as president for 4 years you almost ended up with Kamala Harris as president for 2025-2029. CdnFox Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 Are you guys but like it or not the Americans won in both women's and men. Our athletes severely let us down. At a time when we needed a bit of hope they fumbled it and gave us nothing. If it weren't for the curling this would have been a complete team blowout basically. Very shameful performance. And it's not like they weren't out playing the Americans a little bit they just couldn't make their opportunities happen 7 minutes ago, Politics1990 said: dude you lost 2002 2010 4nations ya gotta win one eventually lol Two. Our women lost as well to the Americans This is one of our worst Olympic years. Might as well call it. it is what it is 1 Quote "That which doesn't kill me... Had better start running."

CDN1 Posted February 23 Report Posted February 23 (edited) It's not like hockey is still going to be played in this country in 50 years. Liberals have already canceled Cherry, Orr, and Gretzky. Who's next, Crosby? Probably after he retires with American citizenship. Edited February 23 by CDN1 Quote
LinkSoul60 Posted February 23 Report Posted February 23 The best team doesn't always win. They did everything they needed to do except put the puck in the net. Kudos to the US... a heck of a team. 1 hour ago, CDN1 said: It's not like hockey is still going to be played in this country in 50 years. Liberals have already canceled Cherry, Orr, and Gretzky. bush_cheney2004 Posted February 23 Report Posted February 23 I have been watching a lot of post game interviews for the affected NHL coaches and their pragmatic views: 1) Politics didn't matter any more than the usual longstanding cross border rivalry regardless of who is PM or president. This was not a Trump protest battle, as this would be an insult to the game/rivalry. 2) Canadian and American NHL players from teams on both sides of the border somewhat dilutes any fevered hype of old...these guys have to go back and perform at the same high level as teammates after very little rest. For instance, the Colorado Avalanche are looking at 5 games in 7 days starting on Wednesday. 3) Which is why the Olympic final felt like an NHL all-star game for national bragging rights to this casual fan, who recognizes the names and stories only because of the local angle (Minnesota Wild). Lots of NHL talent on the Euro teams as well. The three sets of brothers was a nice human interest story. 4) Yes, the 3 on 3 format sucks, but TV scheduling and money has long impacted the NHL game, not always for the better. Hoping we get back to Stanley Cup OT format for at least the medal round. 1 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
August1991 Posted February 23 Report Posted February 23 How many of the players are born in Canada? Chinese? American? Before the US Congress in 1978, Trudeau Snr famously noted that many Americans side with Canadians while many Americans side with Canadians. ===== I am reminded of Seinfeld's comment about laundry: Quote
