The democrats have been increasing the nature of their lies against trump all year. First he was bad, then he was terrible, then he was evil, now he's out to shoot and kill people.

They did the same thing with their weaponization of the courts, trying every which way possible to create the illusion that he's an actual convicted felon when in reality all he is is convicted of nonsense charges that the democrats threw out to try and repress their political opponent

And they are furious that this isn't working. But whereas a normal person would step back and say this is not working, we need to try something other than these outrageous lies because people just aren't buying them, for some reason they decide to double down on it. "The" public has changed in the last 10 years.  They're now used to politicians being less careful with words and making statements like that.  It's bad for stability.  If you look at how far things can decline when stability goes, you start to understand how invaluable it is.

 

The inherent conflict is: democracy depends on votes, which (in an all-media age) depends on attention/eyeball/clicks.  That means there's a benefit to making rash statements, but those in turn erode democracy.  Putting the dead, dismembered and bloody genie back in the bottle takes decades.  The first revolution in the USA, they had to sent dissenters to Canada...
