Biden stepping aside as Democratic presidential candidate- it's official.

Biden stepping aside as Democratic presidential candidate | CBC News

U.S. President Joe Biden ended his re-election campaign on Sunday after fellow Democrats lost faith in his mental acuity and ability to beat Donald Trump, leaving the presidential race in uncharted territory.

Biden, in a post on X, said he will remain in his role as president and commander-in-chief until his term ends in January 2025 and will address the nation this week.

"It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term," Biden wrote.

By dropping his reelection bid, he clears the way for Vice-President Kamala Harris to run at the top of the ticket, the first Black woman to do so in the country's history.

Biden, 81, did not mention her when he announced his move.

He's not endorsing harris and he's not stepping down to let her be president (first female black/asian - she'd have made the history books).

So.  Obviously part of his deal was that the floor get opened to others. So now it's a battle.

This is going to get ugly :)

😆.. most popular president in US history steps aside

Presumably to spend more time with 'the smartest man he's ever met' before he goes to jail.

His dropping out does not clear the way for Kamala The Ugandan Giant to run. There's this little problem with the delegates, who are already committed to Biden.

The DemoNAZI convention will be a highly rated comedy clusterfck, which will only increase Trump's poll  numbers.

It was a classless move to have the Democrats have Joe debate Trump when they knew he wasn't going to be the nominee

I think they convinced themselves he might hold it together well enough to get by.  But- they picked that very early debate date which is very unusual, neither one had been nominated yet but they wanted to do the debate?

I think it was to see whether he was still together enough to run BEFORE the final nomination and clearly he was not. i mentioned this theory at the time. Now they can at least do  a hail mary,

Kamala isn't likeable and will be easy to pick off among black voters.  Remember the Tulsi Gabbard take down? The attack videos write themselves. The lawfare against Republicans has Kamala Harris written all over it as well. She's a radical

The rust belt isn't going to vote for some snob from California either

They only have to vote for him in the first round, and nobody else will so that solves that problem. After that they can vote for whomever they like.

The big problem they have to deal with is they now have four weeks to conduct a leadership race that would normally take 6 months and come up with a candidate that everyone can get behind but who's well-known enough to have a shot at winning the public over in the next few months. So they have to have a pretty squeaky clean track record.

And they're just aren't any standout fantastic choices. The only one that would have a real shot would be Bernie Sanders to be perfectly blunt and they can't put him up because he's a commie. Harris is there only other choice but clearly there's division in the party about her as well

This is going to be a disaster and they very well wind up with trump not only winning the presidency but also the house in the senate and having the horsepower to do whatever he bloody likes for the first two years.

There's no good choices. Given the state of California that guy has no track record to run on that would Inspire anyone to vote for him.

Shapiro might deliver Pennsylvania possibly but nobody else anywhere knows him and frankly is about an 80% chance he'll be confused with Ben Shapiro and confuse the F out of everyone.

If this was a year ago or even 6 months ago, then maybe. There might have been enough time for somebody to raise the money get out there and sell themselves. But now, somebody has to go out and get the donors to give them hundreds of millions of dollars? While their money is still tied up in the Biden Harris donations which can't be transferred? And then put together a presidential campaign advertising and everything that goes with it and get it out there in front of America and sell themselves within a few months?

And trump will legitimately be able to say whoever it is I'm not debating them you guys and the debate thing are a joke. So they won't even get to sell their stuff on the public stage in a debate.

They've managed to turn defeat into disaster i think.

The name for the Democratic candidate on the November ballot simply needs to say “Not Old and Not Trump”.

You mean because it doesn't matter what it says they'll lose anyway?

Probably true.  :)

Remember, biden was behind in the polls before the debate .

This is basically an admission from the dems that they let a senile person run the white house for some time now, biden is STILL going to be president which will be a reminder to everyone, there is no concensus on a  replacement so it's going to be a fight and probably an ugly one...   They've lost this one.

They need to save the houses now.

Biden stepping aside was obvious, it was really strange to see die hard liberals in this forum unable to see this.  Then when the debate fiasco happened, and there was STILL support for him on this forum?  Those are the folks that are brainwashed.

And recently we heard that 1/3 of Dems(or whatever the specific Dem group was) think the assassination attempt was staged.  And they think the right has crazies.

Anyway, this quote that Kamala repeated dozens of times has new meaning:  “What can be, unburdened by what has been”. Buh bye Biden.

I didn't think so. But to your credit, I looked at your recent posts and you did say this.

I can't imagine the machinations behind the scenes for this to happen.

The same people and power behind the machinations that led to Biden stepping down are not doing it for Kamala.  You can be sure of that, that’s just another way to lose.

Nov 6th, the Hunter pardons roll.

How many of his convicted cronies has Trump pardoned?

And hasn't he promised to pardon all the dozens of violent criminals who attacked Congress if he gets re-elected?

You guys can't throw stones about supposed pardons.

No, we just see the dementia in Trump where you hand wave it aside. We also see his profound ignorance about every aspect of government and economics. We see his fawning admiration for dictators and his lazy incompetence at governing. And we realize virtually anyone would be better.

Of Harris? I seriously doubt it. She is a lousy campaigner, doesn't seem to have any charisma, and is one of the few people who would lose to Trump in a debate.

Hell, I could kick Trump's fat ass back and forth across the stage in a debate and I'm not even a politician.

You mean they're not working against her?

I wonder who's really in charge now. I guess she is.

Trump has had such amazing good luck in his debates. First with anti-charismatic Hillary Clinton, then with old Joe. And now, even if he agrees to a debate, which I agree, he probably won't, well, Harris is not a good debater. Neither is Trump, of course, but he just sprays out a hurricane of bluster and lies so you can hardly even tell what he was talking about.

Why? Just shows democrats are the enemies of democracy by pulling their elected party leader because he couldn't win nationally

Trump remains a guy with no class whatsoever. His sneering parting shots at Joe Biden trumpeted his personality as perfectly as anything else he's ever done or said. He could find nothing good to say, nothing decent, just more sneering and hypocritical insults. The worst president in history, you ignorant, dementia-riddled b1tch? That will always be you. And it isn't even close.
