Big deal is subjective. Your claim that we were that close to losing the Republic is what is nonsense. The Republic would not have been lost if only Pence had followed the scheme.

This is always the point where their argument falls apart.  As if the entire nation would just say 'well - i mean if pence says so..  there's no way this could be faked it says right in the constitution "thou shall not pants pence". 

The 'crisis' would have been minor and within 24 hours it would have been over. There is no scenario where there is any chance of it ending with anything other than a biden presidency.

This is the crux of the problem with his claim. He is trying to have it both ways, trying to say Pence going along with the scheme would have ended our Republic... but also saying Pence had no such power.

Power and authority are two different things. Of course the Vice President is not actually vested that legal authority. But did Pence have the "power" to declare it? Yes, he did. Along with a specious legal argument to justify it and the backing of the sitting president as well as numerous enablers in the legislature. 

And you pretend not to be familiar with democracy, but yes, when the sitting president illegally overturns a democratic election to declare himself the winner, the democracy is in crisis. That's a farking coup. There is no prescribed remedy for such a situation. So there is no satisfying outcome, one way or another. Just irreparably damaged institutions. 

^^ and all of this is the same thing I told you before, but you waved your hands and pretended it wasn't there.

Apparently the way it works is that whoever the VP says when the election is what we have to go with regardless of what the actual results were.

Like the next VP could tally up everything and step out and say the winner of this election is.... SIDESHOW BOB!!!! Hey Bob you won it, come on down here you rascal! You're going to be president and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!! 

And the stupid thing is  if the dems had just utterly ignored it and let the courts do whatever without comment and paid NO attention to trump at all after that election, he'd probably be dead in the water right now.  But they make sure the media talked about him every week , and made a martyr out of him, and had congressional hearings about him and basically gave him billions in free advertising, and sho 'nuff he bounced back in full force and now is likely to win. 

They are their own worst enemy. They'd have furthered their chances more if they'd shot themselves instead of trump.
