I thought Canada also introduced some sort of a fixed-term Parliament system. Is there some way to get round that and have early elections?

A vote of no confidence will end up resulting in an early election.

Any member of parliament can call for the vote, and if the PM loses, it's off to election we go.

The federal budget is also confidence measure, and Trudeau's journalist-turned-finance minister Chrystia Freeland is madly printing trillion dollar bills as we speak for a new budget this fall.

Usually that's a tricky subject for a minority government, and Singh would have his moment of glory when Trudeau comes to him, hat in hand, but this budget can't get defeated. That's because Trudeau is throttling this country economically with covid shutdowns, and the budget will contain much-needed money to keep families and businesses afloat. The little bastard spent so much money that we can't afford an election, and we can't have a pause in the federal dole or this country will seize up like Hemi without any oil. It's brilliant, in an extremely evil sort of way.

Which party would you vote for then?  THey're all crap.  I'm pretty sure every party ever is crap.

Maybe I would vote for libertarian. But they might not run in my riding.

Of course all the parties are terrible. But I will add that the Canadian political parties are unusually terrible, in part because of where Harper and Trudeau have taken their parties.

I wouldn't mind voting for parties in other countries. Such as Tsai Ing-wen's party in Taiwan, the Australian Liberal Party, or Macron's party in France. Maybe if Martha Hall Findlay created a party in Canada, I would vote for that party.

To be completely honest, I'd rather vote for Kanye West than any of the political parties in the list. Because at least Kanye West would disrupt the system and maybe lead to better options later on.

Why is there no none of the above option?

Why is there no option for the smaller parties, such as PPC, Libertarian, Communist, etc.?

Indeed. Why isn't the PPC party not on the list?

Conservative,  can't tolerate any more of you know who.

I cannot stand any of those so called liberal conservatives in the party anymore. I have more conservatism in my little pinky finger than any of those people in the conservative party. If those members of the conservative party were really conservative they would have left the conservative party years ago. They would have joined the PPC by now. Sadly, this country is loaded with way too many leftist liberals/conservatives and NDP socialist/communists. Those fools only know as to how to destroy a once great nation and turn it into a pile of leftist ashes. The liberal and conservative party's are globalist party's. Not much to choose from.

Elections are meant for buffoons. Most people that vote pretty much do not know anything about the party that they are voting for. If what some politician says that pleases their ears than they will vote for that person. Most people appear to vote with their feet and not with their heads. Typically Canadian, eh? ;)

That makes sense in a way but if the government wants to have a new election because the polls look good they would have to bring themselves down by voting against themselves.

I think trudeau thinks the throne speech will get voted down and the committee's and investigations will not start up again. But I think O'toole is not going to call one and then everything will continue. Give trudeau some more rope.

Alright, screw your poll (I assume that this is permissible forum language given the context; if not I apologize. Refusing to simply correct the poll to be more inclusive comes across as a bit impolite.). Apparently you want to know who we want to vote for but apparently we aren't allowed to vote for one of the six parties that were in the debates during the last election, nor are we allowed to vote for other smaller parties nor spoil our ballots.

In that case, I'll vote for the Bloc Quebecois. They are the least bad party, even if they do support the dairy cartel and even if their leader thinks that secularism/laicite involves banning hijabs while also having a giant crucifix in the national assembly of Quebec (admittedly the crucifix has been since taken down). They never run in my riding, but I'll vote for them in your poll.

Edit: If anyone else agrees with me, then please also vote for the Bloc in this poll.

If the NDP vote against them that's enough for the Libs to lose. The Libs don't have 50% of the seats in parliament.

I can't change the poll options dude. People have already voted.

Besides, 99.24% of Canadians voted for PC, Libs, NDP, Green, Bloc or PPC, and about 5% of the 0.76% votes that went to other parties went to JWR, an independent. JWR alone got twice as many votes as your libertarian party. Should JWR have been a poll option?

PPC isn't on your poll...

You can always add an 'other' option. It's quite common in polls to include an 'other' option to capture parties or candidates not on the list.

I could've, but for reasons that I'm sure you understand, I didn't think it was necessary at the time.

I voted Tory. Mr. O'Toole has expressed interest in nuclear power which would revitalize western Canada. I am not going to vote against anyone. I want to vote for O'Toole. Of course, the election could be a long way off and anything could change the equation.

I'll be voting PC, surprising I know.... But Justin is going to come out swinging at the end of the month, and is is going to have something for everyone, he'll be spending money like a fat kid eats smarties.... most of it directed at Climate change, social programs, with a little sprinkled of getting the economy started... NDP are already bought and paid for, so no early election...

let the block try to push for an election , it's not going any where , gives the PC time to get established , produce some real policies, and sell them to the public....but either way the damage will be done...

If only there were other parties in the house of commons that could make coherent arguments that could explain why mass central planning and spending hundreds of billions, if not trillions, of dollars is a bad idea... Unfortunately, there aren't any. In addition, there aren't many choices for voters to choose from, to better reflect their preferences and beliefs; this makes it easier for extremists to gain power.

It's almost like, one of the main causes of Canada's terrible political discourse is the first past the post system, and the random drift behaviour that a first past the post system can have on the political class. Perhaps the solution would be for people to stop voting for establishment parties that are afraid to have a public referendum on electoral reform and that want to reduce political competition and voter choice.

If you vote for an establishment party that wants the first past the post system, then you are part of the problem.

This thread only indicates the opinions of the posters in this forum of federal politics. Looking at the results, I fear that it is an echo chamber.

Yeah, the forums used to have more left-wing voices in the past. But, for whatever reason, it has become a bit of an echo chamber.
