I got one after christmas as well, Norditrack E.11. Guess I'll do some of that.

In the UK, they want the old people to self- quarantine while people still work and go to school. But the government specifically said, old people are still allowed to go out for a walk each day. They're not just looking fixated at the virus as a problem to solve at all costs, no matter what. There is more to life than surviving a virus, and in the end we must all die anyways, so what the fuck. Someone tell the left.

I don't feel cooped up, my property is perfectly suited to this, I bought it so I could just hang out at home and enjoy myself

I already engage in Social Distancing, not because of germs, because I am surrounded by Lefties.

Got a flash for you...we ARE all going to die.  It is just a matter of from what cause and when.

Catching Eskimo Communism is far worse than catching COVID-19, Dougie Knows. Thankfully Dougie has acquired herd immunity to the former though, but dealing with the infected is lame.

So i'm visiting the CBC news, to get an update. I just found out that, Trudeau is about to give Canadians stranded abroad up to $5000 of our hard earned tax dollars. The virus has been around for months. If a Canadian hasn't bothered to return to Canada by now, don't be sending them a bailout. Let them deal with consequences from their own stupid decision. Let them rot in whatever country, they trapped in. They chose to take the risk, despite everyone with common sense begging them not to.

We need all that money staying in Canada, and not to pay for extended hotel rooms in the Caribbean. If the big banks want to send them high interest loans, that's fine by me... But don't give them dollar of our public funds, when Canada needs it the most. Canadians need to say NO!

I am one of those who will be moving around a lot throughout the pandemic, as are 3 of our kids (all deemed "essential").   Next project I will stay in my truck instead of hotel, bring all of my food (only a few days).   Week after that, I need to cross border into a hotspot - where my supplementary sick care insurance announced I will NOT be covered related to COVID, so client will have to establish medical insurance for me or I simply am not going.   Being a "senior citizen" I am deep into the high risk category, but also being a key person in an essential service, I have some complications related to duty.   I have a condo near home that is my isolation ward (no real estate selling here for last year or so, so no real downside to using it) that I will use after each international or group exposure trip.   Sadly, I was gone all last year and did not get shop up on my farm or we would seriously look at moving out there for the duration.

Keeping away from the partisan side, I do have to observe that pretty much all of North America is completely unprepared for such an event.     Wife will sew clothes for grandkids and leave them isolated for 5 days before pickup (locked in vehicle outside) as we will not likely see them in person for maybe the next 6 months.  I went over to Edmonton to pick up some tools and materials I will need for projects while we are cooped up at home.  Tried to think and act in some way to be able to be "safe" from unknown contamination.  No, not a mask (pointless unless you are walking into a place where someone is hacking up CV) but disposable gloves, wipes, etc.  Easy to deal with credit card, wallet, etc. but when you buy something, you either have to wipe it down or leave it untouched for 5 days - not all that easy to do.  We will do home reno projects, garage work and maybe just watch a lot of TV together (when I am home, which I estimate will be about 1/2 of the time).

What of course makes me squeal with delight is seeing things such as stick-and-ball, casinos, bars, pot shops, etc. closed down.  Especially like to see what I hope will be the end of "cruise" business and unfortunately, not going to get my number one wish in life - to see Wall Street/Bay Street wiped out so our economy can be restored to productive and sustainable (which it is sure as hell not now).   What really is going to hurt is we have a major interest in resource business that will probably not last.   I am under no such delusion that either the Trudeau or Trump governments are going to be a benefit of any consequence in the months to come.

Per the fear subject of the thread:  I have to travel and work where there is ebola, dengue, swine flu, terrorists, kidnappers, etc. and I often work with physical hazards that spell instant death from a moment of carelessness.  COVID is actually a fair bit lower on the scale, but due to our advancing age, I will treat it with the same respect I give a live 500,000 volt device.

1. Don't do this.
2. My curiosity is: were the experts wrong or did the leaders not listen to them ?
3. Unfortunately ?  You are wishing for a very cruel and punishing circumstance.  The idea that some new economy would rise up that is more "fair" or whatever has no basis that I can see.
4. And yet you are planning to cross into a hotspot ?  Is this compelled ?  If you are a senior, you don't "need" to go.  Don't go !

Thanks for your concern, but as I said, I have a duty and we collectively (client company, their clients, etc.) work with extremely high risk situations day in, day out, and we will only do something if we believe we have made adequate provisions for personal safety and also for infrastructure safety.

2.   I guess it depends on which "experts" one chose to consult or acknowledge.  Medical professionals I deal with in China and UK were screaming blue murder months ago.  If you look at the success of China, Taiwan and South Korea you realize it IS possible to deal with this pandemic with reasonable success, but once you superimpose their methods onto our culture, you could easily see that things here are not going to go well.   Combine that with the general disconnect between politicians and reality, and here we are.

3.   The cruel and punishing end of our economy is going to happen since you can NOT run an economy forever on speculation.   Someone has to actually work and create wealth.  The real exposure from the coming COVID mess is that we have lost control of our supply chains, we are totally dependent upon governments who are hopeless beyond sustainable debt and hopelessly devoid of intelligent thought (or we would not have had a "too big to fail bailout of the street in '09).   The longer one delays the bursting of the ridiculous bubble, the more it will hurt.  We are 12 years late, but better now than later.

4.  The planning part is a daily process where we weigh all of the options.   The stuff we do is not something you can just put off, or serious problems for a lot of people.

I think it will be a lockdown situation for at least two weeks, probably starting Canada-wide by this weekend, because the only way for sure to stop the spread until it becomes symptomatic and the people who have it recover is to wait two full weeks.  I know that was the plan in Ontario, in case anyone is out of the country for our March Break, which ends this weekend.  That two weeks will have to be strictly enforced or else this could go on much longer.

What’s more, the chain is only as strong as its weakest link, meaning that if any one of our other provinces or trading partners doesn’t impose similar restrictions and get to zero new cases, we can’t travel to such places or allow entry from such places.  If we don’t want this to drag out beyond another several weeks, I can see no other option than to have tight restrictions around outside movement, limited to certain essential purposes.  The grocers and pharmacies will have to maintain strict protocols for social distancing and hygiene from the point of entry to the point of departure.

Only if such measures are followed and we get to zero new and unresolved cases can we begin a form of return to work, but this will have to build in small groupings, social distancing, and careful hygiene, at least for a while.

Can our society handle this?  Can our economy?  What choice do we have?  The only other option is letting the spread happen and accepting the loss of life. I think that might put us right back where we are now, but with many dead and an overwhelmed health system, not to mention pariah status and a closed society.

The hygiene of essential workers will have to be closely maintained and monitored.  Quite simply, people can’t be touching each other or surfaces and they can’t be anywhere near each other, especially for those who must travel between jurisdictions.

I think we need to get real now, as the costs will pile up the longer this goes on.  Even with the strictest possible measures that still allow us to access essentials, I think this will last a long time.

1. Canada and Ontario have chief medical officers.  They advise the leaders.
2. Very true.
3. "We" haven't had control... well... since America was born.  There was a controversy where British North America was instructed by the crown NOT to trade with the former colonies, after the revolution.  Upper Canada replied with the 18th century version of "WTF ?"
4.  God bless, is the expression.

Am I talking to you?   Why don't you just ignore me ......................if my post triggers this great fear in you.

Anyway, what's scary about the benefits of  dependency on God - it works for me!

If you don't believe in God - maybe you can take comfort  in your "knowledge" that death would be final!  End of suffering. Whatever works for you!

Betsy You are on the forum,  so I read your preaching. The fact I reject your preachings does not mean I am not religious, an/or do not believe in God, etc., it simply means I find your need to use the virus as a way to preach your beliefs  and try convert people to your belief system manipulative and based on fear mongering.

Pot stores have all closed down, without warning. LCBO stores remain open. Apparently it's an essential service.

Alcohol is a disinfectant.  :P

(ETA, just kidding folks. Booze doesn't have enough alcohol in it to disinfect.

May make social isolation more tolerable though, in moderation of course.  Lol )

Only effective as a disinfectant at 65% though. Vodka cannot be substituted for hand cleaners.

It can cheer you up though if you drink it...

It's not that low on the scale, the peplomers on this thing can penetrate your cells effortlessly and then they don't let go, hence why the severe pneumonia.

I won't miss it on TV but they've gone and closed all the rinks around here. It didn't bother me either until they did that. Closing sports facilities and telling people to stay home is also bad for public health.

That's ridiculous.

Well, to begin with, it is a loan, not a gift.   Secondly: not everyone out of the country is a banker in the Caribbean.  One of my nieces, for instance, was studying in the UK and was ordered home by her Canadian university.   Cost a small fortune to change her existing ticket.  She was quite comfortable just staying there until the whole thing blows over.  You think she should rot in Hell?  The audacity to want to learn shit.

Now here is a positive story....a Canadian doctor in Perth, Ontario has demonstrated the way to double the capacity of ventilators in case of a shortage....learned it from YouTube !   The technique was first tried in practice by doctors in Las Vegas after the mass shooting in 2017.    Salute to these and all health care professionals on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reports are that Millennials in Italy and France are starting to show up in the hospital ICU's "very seriously ill"

The theory is that while older people took shelter younger people ignored the warnings and now they've caught the pneumonia.

That's because it's mutated.
