Shady Posted March 14, 2013 Report Posted March 14, 2013 Some versions say rape... The KJV version was changed to "seduce".... Of course it is open to interpretation.... now... Originally, these things were very literal. People were stoned to death for a myriad of things... women probably had to marry their rapists... no one suffered witches to live. When society changes for the better, it drags the church along with it and suddenly things are open to interpretation that previously weren't. I'll ask again. Where is what you're saying in Vatican II? That's the doctrine that the Catholic Church follows. I'm not sure why that's so hard for you to understand. Quote

I'm not sure why that's so hard for you to understand. Already answered... Vatican II claims the Old Testament is still sacred. What do they say about marrying your rapist? Probably nothing. Apparently, those passages are open to interpretation, like much of the, divinely inspired (yet surprisingly vague) bible. Edited March 14, 2013 by The_Squid Quote

Guest Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 Unless he was among those who did actual cover-ups, why woud he "own the sins of others?" He can take steps though to repair the damage, and to ensure that offending priests get booted out to protect not only would-be victims, but also the church. Then of course, it would be his sins too. I guess the cover up would continue. There was a priest sentenced to 11 years today, in Canada. Quote

There was a priest sentenced to 11 years today, in Canada. I don't follow. If he was involved or in favor of cover ups is one thing (I am not comfortable in saying that he sinned - since I wouldn't know the reasons behind such actions - only God can really judge what is sinful to Him). However, I could say that he would then be similar to those who'd committed crimes dictated by the law of the land. If there is no reason to suggest that he was in favor of any cover ups.....why would you think that the cover ups would continue? Perhaps it is best to give the new Pope the benefit of the doubt, as we grudgingly give elected politicians from our opposing political party. The new Pope seems to have walked the talk in his fight for poor people. And one of his first message that urges the church to not be influenced by the modern world is indeed a very encouraging message....since it hints at the new Pope's courage, and activism. He's known to have been an activist against the government in Argentina, opposing gay marriage and abortion. The cover ups will most probably continue due to the cabal that's within the church - members of the cabal protecting fellow members. Since this has gone on for decades at least (who knows when it started really), this rot is so deeply rooted that it can also compare to how corruptions is so ingrained in third world countries. -TSS- Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 Please someone show me the exact passage in the Bible demanding that a human-being is elevated to a position of a semi-God. You can't show such a passage because it does not exist. Similarly, nowhere in the Bible is there any demand that people must build places of worship. Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted March 15, 2013 Report Posted March 15, 2013 (edited) How about this: Matthew 16:18–19 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Edited March 15, 2013 by bush_cheney2004 Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Which I'm more inclined to believe are being brought up by the leftwing in order to discredit him. Right after his election, womens' group protested saying they should have had a say in the conclave. The Pope clearly stated where he stands, which direction he'll take the church - and definitely it wouldn't be to support gay marriage, abortion and feminism! Declaration of his intent alone is enough to galvanize his enemies. They want a leftwing pope. Edited March 16, 2013 by betsy Quote
