tradewar Trump Secures $1T In New Investments
CdnFox replied to gatomontes99's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Flat IS a drop in wealth. Inflation continues. And that's substantial opportunity cost. However once again, this is the early stage and it's entirely possible that trump's plans, which include rate cuts which are about to happen, won't produce a longer term benefit that grossly exceeds the small losses to date. If i buy a house today and fix it up I 'Lose" money. But if i sell it for double the price in 6 months after the renos are done, it's be pretty stupid to worry about that initial "loss" wouldn't it. If i can't sell it then yeah, it's a loss. You guys are arguing over something we won't be able to see for months. You and @Radiorum both should agree to sit back and wait till ACTUAL results are in. Anyone who thinks that massive national changes to the economy have their final effects in just a month are kidding themselves. The tariff increases in inflation haven't even hit yet, and on the other side when stability hits the money sitting on the sidelines might just come off the benches in droves. And the tax breaks may help with that. We don't know what's going to happen it is WAAAAAY too soon for anyone to be saying it's a disaster or that it's going great, the plan is in motion but it isn't even fully implemented yet and it's fun to comment as it goes on various things but lets not evaluate it's success till it's actually time to do so. -

tradewar England Agrees To New Trade Deal
CdnFox replied to gatomontes99's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
None of that's true kiddo. Other than the fact that excessive government spending in general led to higher inflation -
Give me a break. This is starting to get childish. Most presidents get gifts, most leaders of countries get gifts. And some of them are extremely extravagant. Presidents of the united states have received swords that are encrusted with exceptionally expensive gems and jewels. The Faberge eggs were donated to the crown in England. Sudan wanted to give one of the American Presidents a herd of elephants once. Ben Franklin got a solid gold snuff box encrusted with insanely expensive diamonds worth tens of millions in today's money It would be illegal for trump to accept the gift himself. He will take it as president of the united states and then he will leave it behind when he goes. If he doesn't that's a crime. The democrats lost an election by picking stupid fights over these ignorant details as if they were some big deal when it's all happened before a million times. He can accept the gift on behalf of America, he can use it while he's president, and then he has to either leave it with the government when he goes or donate it to a presidential museum like Reagan did with the plane he used once it was decommissioned. It's as if you can't find anything real to complain about. You think he's doing such a perfect job that you have to manufacture this outrage over nothing otherwise you'd have to admit he was perfect. Is that the problem here? You are so desperate for Something to complain about because you couldn't find something else? Maybe stick with reality and see how that works for you

Cheese: Why no choice? So expensive!

But that's true whether there is supply management or not -
Nope. They didn't vote. That's the bottom line. She did vote. And it wasn't counted. It is the responsibility of the person to show up and vote. That's why they allow for advanced polls and mail in ballots if you can't be available voting day. that's your job, get out and vote. But if you DO get out and vote.... the vote must be counted. she got out and voted. And elections canada, who is responsible to guarantee her vote is counted, failed. Whole different ball game. They missed the connection. 100 percent their responsibility. Their job is to show up. They failed. They're as useless and stupid as your grandfather. But she did her job. SHe showed up, she did what she was supposed to do, and due to an error by elections canada they did not count her vote. Entirely different. it's beginning to sound like you're not much brighter than your grandfather It is the responsibility of the voter to show up to vote in a manner proscribed by elections Canada. It is Elections canada's duty to count the votes. She showed up and did her duty, they have failed at theirs. There must be recourse.

There is a difference between influence and a bribe. A bribe has to have direct and permanent value to the person, not the institution. Lets say he visits there and they throw a lavish dinner for him with the best foods and the best wine and the nicest setting. Is that a bribe? Because that happens all the time with world leaders. He got something for free that he really likes didn't he? A world class meal? Maybe the fanciest accommodations during his stay? etc etc So it's really not a 'bribe', and as i understand it this was already cleared by the powers that be as being legit provided he donates it. Ronald regan apparently did the same thing. A bribe always has to involve quid pro quo, and permanent benefit to the recipient. While it's obvious that they're attempting to buy favor and influence him positively towards their country I don't think it could be called a bribe. Heads of state including the president get expensive gifts given to them all the time and while this may be a bit of an extreme example it's hardly unique in that respect.

All that proves is that liberals are liars and tell fake stories At the end of the day tho in such a case your grandpa, who apperently doesn't know to check before crossing the road despite his advanced years, made a mistake. That's on him. In this case the lady did NOT make a mistake. She did exactly what she was supposed to, This would be more akin to someone completing their ballot, handing it over and the person just forgot to put it in the elections box. Not her fault, she did her job. Your grandpa did not and caused an accident Now this kind of thing does happen but usually it doesn't affect the outcome so elections canada appologizes and points out that while they regret it even if they changed the total it wouldn't change the result. So they leave it at that But... in this case it WOULD have changed the vote. And she DID do what she was told to do by Elections Canada, same as if she was at the ballot box. Unlike your grandad who's apparently slightly less intelligent than a squirrel. And that's where elections Canada is going to run into an issue.

To be honest I think you need to go back a little further and examine the biggest problem with Canada. Canada is Quebec and Ontario. it'snot what you see on the map. Quebec and Ontario have ruled the country for their benefits since it's inception. They are the king and queen, all those around them are considered pawns. This created a great deal of friction in the west for a long time, in fact there were explicit policies going right up to world war 1 that prevented growth in the west to protect the east. After that they still had a number of policies that achieve that and then we had policies like the NEP which milked Alberta dry to benefit Ontario and Quebec It has always been hoped that the west would eventually grow big enough that over time Canada would fully inflate and become a real country with east and west equally respected and represented. But that has not really happened. We theorize that it is sort of happening because occasionally there are governments that don't completely rape the west for the benefit of the east, but we see to this very day that they are more of an exception than a rule. There can never be a true Canada as long as the east sees the west has its junior employee. Overtime the west will eventually grow to be more powerful and more influential but that's still a ways off and there are just some people who are not willing to wait anymore for that day to come Honestly I think the best thing for everybody would be a situation where western Canada broke away and was its own nation and the two countries formed a union similar to the European Union to allow economic cooperation and prosperity while still respecting each other's sovereignty. There's just no way laws made in Ottawa are ever going to be to the liking or benefit of Alberta or Saskatchewan or even British Columbia

Well it will be under federal control, the presidential libraries are governed by federal law and are maintained by the feds. It's an old tradition. And many of them store gifts and other "three dimensional" records of the president's time. And considering it'll be at the facility it's not like he'll be able to fly it I mean i kind of get it, but i don't think this is really a 'bribe' or the like other than he'll get an insanely luxurious jet to bum around in while he's president. And it'll probably be a pretty popular exhibit later which is bound to stroke his ego.

tradewar CHINA FOLDS! DEAL MADE! details to follow
CdnFox replied to gatomontes99's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
They're not deals. That's the point. They're announcements. They have no legal weight, the people involved are not obliged to spend a nickle, they can back out, change their minds, delay, whatever they want. When they've spent the money, they've spent the money. And it will show up in the GDP figures. Then it's real. Otherwise it's smoke and mirrors. Canada had this HUGE investment by honda for an ev plant, all done and dusted and announced.... today they announced it's delayed for 2 years. And in two years they can cancel it. 15 billion dollar deal which in comparison to the us economy would be a 150 billion dollar deal. When the money's spent you have it, right now it's just bullshit and 'mabey's. Better than nothing but of no value till they start spending, and that's just a simple truth Sure. It's not BAD news thats for sure. Which is why they're rushing out these announcements as much as possible, they want some good news to hit the markets and boost stocks and such. Which is perfectly legit. I have no doubt some of the money will get spent, companies spend billions of dollars every year investing and such. As you can see here even in 2024 companies invested about an average of 6.4 trillion dollars PER QUARTER in actual investment, that's per quarter not spread over a number of years. United States - Gross domestic investment - 2025 Data 2026 Forecast 1947-2024 Historical So there's going to be some investment. Which is good. But the announcements don't add up to much. The problem is that we won't see real results for at least another quarter. So maybe september we'll start seeing REAL good news. And that's a long time away. They have to give markets and people a litlte hope between now and then. Also remember the tariffs are phase one of his plan. Tax cuts are coming up and that's phase 2. If we're being honest, i think that's going to do more than the tariffs. I think they fumbled the tariffs a fair bit and they're not going to get the results they were hoping for out of them, but the tax cuts almost always spur some growth.
