So what you're saying is you're very comfortable making up something I never said and then arguing against that because you can't cope with the truth. Fair enough I understand. And considering that you are the guy who spent 10 pages arguing that 100% - 50% isn't 50% I dare say that economies and economics are beyond your skill set And once again you can't actually address the points of the issue. and become belligerent Gee you're not proving my point or anything are you This from the guy who does nothing but follow me around on this forum and try and pick fights at random and then loses them but I can certainly understand why you want to try and change the subject. Perhaps you'd care to blame my post size, or how frequently I post? Those are the usual reasons you give for why you said something stupid

As usual, when confronted with facts you can't address you become belligerent. The fact is that nobody has anything nice to say about carney. Efforts have been made to try and solicit opinions from people who should know and nobody is coming back saying that he was any good. And everybody who was in Canada when he was here a great he did absolutely nothing to deal with the financial crisis and has zero credibility on that front. Carney is a useless twit who managed to worm his way into some higher up positions but unfortunately hasn't got the skill to back it up. Go check out the gaffe thread . The guy thinks we sell the us half of it's semi conductors. He doesn't understand our industries, he doesn't get our problems, he doesn't know how to fix anything

It might not be anyone. At the end of the day you're a loser who doesn't even believe in Canada and parades his stolen valor around. Your opinion is less than useless. I'm confident one way or another if we wanted it we would be able to acquire it. Not certain it's the best choice but it's one that can be considered. I have no doubt that they would like to see more sales of those fighters because it makes them more affordable and upgradable for the countries that are already flying them. Anyway, canada will worry about what fighters it needs. You don't have to worry your little head about it.

The Millennials have been trashing the hell out of the Boomers and suggesting that the Boomers owe them a living for some time. I'm not surprised the boomers are kind of not worried about the millennials anymore. I am a little surprised though, that they haven't put together the fact that if they vote in a government the trash is the younger people because they feel it will benefit their pensions and such it's only a matter of time till the young people have enough numbers to vote in a government that will trash old age pensions and such in favor of their own interests, especially if Canada is weak and money is scarce But the simple fact of matter is most people are not forward-thinking enough to put that together. We all benefit when we all benefit, and these days nobody seems to understand that. They either want to hold on to what they have or they want to take what someone else has and everything is a zero-sum game

Of course not, don't be silly. But I didn't vote for trump, I can't vote for trump, and trump has absolutely nothing to do with what we're talking about here which is the Canadian election. I do, however, appreciate the idea that he's trying to increase the amount of business done in the united states and he's trying to increase the number of products and services that are done there. While what trump is doing is not great for Canada, i can respect that he intends to improve america. We should be doing the same thing, if not in the same way. We should be learning to rely on ourselves, we should be increasing our own production here at home of many things and not relying on the Americans for it. We should be improving our own markets and growing our own businesses and making Canada a more attractive place to invest. We should be less reliant on the US and even other countries and produce more of what we need at home. Are you against those things for some reason? Do you think expanding our economy or encouraging Canadian production of things is bad? Explain why? You keep saying all these things like balanced budget and more insdustry at home is terrible but you're not really explaining yourself,
-
It's not about making a break with the people. It's not like the basic principles behind what trump is doing are wrong. Why shouldn't the government spend less money? Why shouldn't you have a balance budget? Why shouldn't we have an effective immigration policy? The issue is that trump is an extreme version of that and divisive. All Poilievre has to show is that he has a reasonable and sensible plan that will deliver results and that he's got nothing to do with trump despite the fact that the liberals are absolutely desperate to make that fake connection just as the democrats in the states were desperate to connect Trump to Hitler. I mean have you got a special reason why old people shouldn't get a tax break? Is there some reason you feel homes shouldn't be more affordable? Are those anti-canadian values or something? The only reason carney is a head right now is because for whatever reason people perceive that he would be a better choice to deal with trump. That's what Poilievre has to counter. That and he's got that new leader shine, and the NDP voters believe that he can defeat Poilievre. If he beats the first one, the second one will tend to wear off on its own extremely quickly and that will lead to the third one being null and void.

I don't think that's true at all. Honestly if it were they would have pressured England to be buying nothing but f-35s anyway And as much as the UK depends on America, they're not likely to completely alienate a former colony either. I'm quite certain a deal could be done. Not that the Rafale is a horrible plane either And we couldn't make some changes to suit us better

Trump announces 25% tariffs on car imports to US
CdnFox replied to Hodad's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
It's very easy to forget it's barely been 2 months since he got in I remember thinking this in his first term, it feels like he's been in for a year already but it's just over 60 flipping days He still has time, he can still bring back stability and enourage american companies to start ramping up and breaking ground and expanding, and the us is not in recession just yet. So there's every reason to hope that in the coming months he'll decide he's knocked everyone off their game enough and settle down to the nuts and bolts of building a solid economy, which he's shown previously he can do when he focuses on that. -
Sure. Snake oil peddlers have been successful throughout recorded history. Soothsayers and the like lived very good lives and made lots of money But as intelligent and rational people it's important to recognize that and set it aside, and take a look at what the actual known facts and research says. And it's very telling that despite having numerous people on this forum ask for the research not one person on the left has been able to produce a single research paper that actually shows that climate change is a crisis or that anything Canada could possibly do by lowering emissions would have any noticeable or significant impact at all. I'm entirely prepared to believe that mankind is changing the climate, there's a whole lot of us and we do a lot of crap. So it's believable. But I have seen nothing that suggests that it's some species of out of control crisis or that we wouldn't be better off in the short term adopting and looking for long-term solutions as the technology presents itself Hey there is a massive ton of evidence to suggest that anyone who thought that you could tax climate change away isn't serious about the issue

Trump announces 25% tariffs on car imports to US

But that's not how it works Instead what they say is oh well I guess we'll just pay tariffs because trump will be gone in 4 years and it will take me 5 years to move my Factory. Meanwhile people who are already doing business in the united states say to themselves " We better not expand our factories in the united states right now because of the political uncertainty. We don't know if we're going to face a recession because the economic future is uncertain' Investment spending in the united states, in terms of actual dollars not just people saying that they intend to spend money someday, is severely down right now. Now that's a tiny bit misleading because it goes down almost every single election when the new government is signed in because business holds on to its cash to see what the new government is going to do and then after its first few months the investment tends to come right back and that is true no matter which party gets in. But the way things are going that investment may not come back this time. It may sit on the sidelines while it waits to see how everything plays out And Automotive manufacturers are already saying that they don't intend to move their stuff back for several very good reasons. First there isn't a trained labor pool available in the united states that would replace the Canadian and Mexican workforces already in play. Secondly, it would take more than 4 years to make the moves and it would cost a massive massive investment. And thirdly the number one customer for those American cars is Canada. Nobody buys more American cars than Canada does. If they pull their manufacturing out of Canada, canada will inevitably look at either starting its own car companies to service its market or expanding its relationship with Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and European car manufacturers. Pulling their companies out of Canada may actually cost them far more jobs than are created in the united states by moving. So it's not as simple as your projecting. And America couldn't find itself hurting from this very badly. Remember, aside from energy Canada buys more from the US than the US buys from Canada. Killing that relationship hurts America more than it hurts Canada in the long run. And putting the American economy into a recession is just the worst idea -
We don't actually know because he won't disclose yet, and that doesn't account for various pensions and positions or assets held in various trust or venture firms. But either way there's no doubt he controlled and spent billions. He green lit the 250 million dollar loan to musk alone in 2022. The same year he got a ... wait for it... 250 million dollar loan from china while attending on behalf of the liberal gov't a the taxpayer's expense.

Trump announces 25% tariffs on car imports to US
CdnFox replied to Hodad's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Yeah. The absolute last thing Americans should want is to see the pendulum swing all the way back again. It's kind of weird, but when the republicans like trump go 'extreme' they tend to destroy the short term economy by going too far. When dems go extreme they tend to destroy the long term economy by borrowing too much and killing productivity and growth. So if you flip back and forth from one extreme to another you kill your present AND your future. And you wind up with endless culture wars. My sincere hope is that trump will settle down, listen to the business communities and bring stability back. It's not like you can't tariff anything but this on again off again uncertainty is death to business investment. When he says "we might do this, we might do that" then what business thinks is "we need to stop investing and pull back until we see what the final result is", and that will slow the economy at the same time the tariffs are raising inflation. Slow down, decide what you're going to do and do the minimum tariffs to achieve your goals, announce everything and stick to it so people know it's safe to invest again, and focus on getting businesses spending money on building and expanding the economy. That worked for him in the first term, i'm not sure why he's not focusing on that again. But it's early days so we'll see. -
This is important to note. One of the hallmarks of science and it's measure of success for any of it's works is the ability to make accurate predictions. General relativity for example is noted for having made a huge number of very specific predictions which turned out to be true even tho it took many decades to prove it. It's stunningly accurate. However climate change models are NOT accurate in their ability to predict even how things will be one or two years from now. And the models produce "possible" outcomes with absolutely massive variances. It's so inaccurate and unreliable at this point that it's really hard to even call it 'science' except in the most general sense.

CdnFox replied to Hodad's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I think he honestly believes that this will force car manufacturers to move back to the united states. But that's not how it's likely to play out, and this will cause a lot of damage to his economy. If the US doesn't radically change course in about 2 months then a recession will likely be inevitable and that's going to put a lot of pressure on the republicans come the midterms. -
You think anyone who doesn't actually burn a tesla is 'maga'. People who like the ideas trump put forward will still do so even if they don't like what he's doing to our country. Frankly it would be nice after 10 years of burnt churches, toppled statues and cancelled canada days if we had someone who stood up for canada the way he does for the us. But it's pretty telling that trump prefers to help the liberals rather than the conservatives. Yet liberal cheerleaders will still worship the libs.
