  1. Don't sugar-coat it Taxme, tell us how you really feel. 😉 It may be time to renew my membership for the coming CPC leadership race to replace Mr. Poilievre. I feel sorry for the guy but he is the author of his own destruction. He just refuses to listen to advice.

  3. Bad news for Poilievre, to state the obvious. He seems unable to adapt to the new conditions that have followed the arrival of asteroid Trump.

  4. Well, we elect Members of Parliament to act in the best interests of the constituency, not a political party. This is taken more in the breech than in the observance, so when an MP does act in what they deem to be in the interests of their constituents, the partisans get their panties in a twist.

  5. Perhaps, but as I said we rarely get a full view of the circumstances or situation. Since this is only the latest of 3 recent MP's who've crossed the floor or resigned in the last month or so, it's worth speculating whether there may be problems within the Party (or its leadership). Regardless of the optics, anything that gives individual MPs more agency and weakens the consolidation of party power within the leadership is helpful in its own way.

  8. Ireland appears to be a leader in opposing Israel. I was just curious why that is. Ireland is far from Israel and is on it's own island except for Northland Ireland which is part of the United Kingdom. So what is their reason for being so anti-Israel? " Ireland has been attacking Israel disproportionally since the October 7, 2023 Hamas massacre. Recently, after Israel was readmitted, Ireland announced it would not participate in the 2026 annual Eurovision Song Contest as a protest against Israel’s participation. Its announcement came in concert with similar declarations from Spain, Slovenia, Iceland, and of course, the Netherlands. To all of them, I say good riddance. If you have a problem with Israel, but not so much with Hamas killers and rapists, Eurovision is not the right forum for you. If you prefer standing with a free and democratic state that is defending itself against terrorists who follow the teachings of the Muslim Brotherhood, and singing alongside free nations like Israel that celebrate co-existence and venerate women’s and gay rights, then Eurovision is for you. The Irish should be aligned with the Jewish people, given their mutual connection to their homeland. Instead, Ireland has been chasing down Israel relentlessly. Preceding Ireland’s Eurovision boycott, Dublin city council attempted to vote on renaming Herzog Park, named after former Israeli president Chaim Herzog — a slap in the face to his son, Isaac Herzog, Israel’s current president. The attempted erasure of Jewish life in Ireland sparked an international outcry prompting the withdrawal of the proposal. Ireland’s Prime Minister Michael Martin opposed the idea, calling it “divisive and wrong.” Given the Herzog family’s legacy in Ireland, the country’s Chief Rabbi, Yoni Wieder, said that removing Herzog’s name would be “a shameful erasure of a central part of Irish Jewish history.” unquote Avi Benlolo: Ireland's Eurovision boycott just the latest attack on Israel

  9. Another Conservative crosses the floor, bringing Liberals 1 MP shy of majority Ontario MP Michael Ma announced Thursday that he is leaving the Conservative caucus and joining the Liberals. The MP said in a statement that he made the decision after listening to his constituents in the riding of Markham-Unionville in the Greater Toronto Area. "This is a time for unity and decisive action for Canada's future," he wrote. "In that spirit, I have concluded that Prime Minister Mark Carney is offering the steady, practical approach we need to deliver on the priorities I hear every day while door-knocking in Markham-Unionville." Ma's move comes just a few weeks after former Conservative Chris d'Entremont also left the Conservatives to join the government benches. The new addition to the Liberal caucus means Carney is one seat away from a majority government. Rumours swirled in the days following d'Entremont's defection that more Conservatives would follow the Nova Scotia MP — but none had switched sides until Ma. … https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/mp-crosses-floor-to-liberals-9.7012767

  11. .agree.......... suppose the so-called Palestinians ran an effective propaganda campaign against Israel in general and the IDF in particular. Ireland was heavily involved with UNIFIL in the late '70's - and there was friction between the two countries at that time. I think when ur focusing on the 'Palestinians' and recently Gaza tho you need to focus more broadly - ie, what are Irelands 'wants' regionally (ME) to be part of a quid pro quo supporting the Palestinians at least in terms of rhetoric. Hacks are basically political whores - esp the leaders who have the power to negotiate.

  12. No, I'm saying results are more important than intent, since intent can only be inferred. "Sorry, I didn't MEAN to kill you" doesn't fly. Intent matters, but results are what we all have to live with. And I seriously doubt their intentions were good when they flood the country with immigrants with zero thought to housing, the economy, healthcare, the educational system, etc. I assume you are arguing that they are just incredibly incompetent. Why would you support utter incompetence just because you, personally, think they "meant well"? How stupid are you? (Rhetorical question, we can all see how stupid you are.)

  13. In our system no MP’s allegiance to a party is absolute, nor should it be. Floor crossings are a verdict of sorts on a party and its leader.
    2 points
  14. Yeah the idea that floor crossing is somehow anti democratic demonstrates a profound misunderstanding of our system of government. That being said, I do think that floor crossing can sometimes be questionable and opportunistic. The devil is in the details, to which we are often not privy. A floor crossing in a swing riding where both parties are competitive feels a lot different than floor crossing in an entrenched riding where the candidate would never have won against the previous riding party.

  17. If the Liberals attain a majority then Carney needs to call another election ASAP. If these crossing MP's had any ethics they would sit as independents if they didn't like their party. They're directly stifling the will of the people. PP needs to resign as leader. He's a Republican in disguise and needs to go away. His party is busy obstructing the House of Commons and Parliamentary committees like the GOP does in the US. This needs to stop. And he's a complete fool if he thinks Canadians are ever going to vote for this. Or good sense.

  18. That may be true on a particular policy right now but the spectrum of possible policies between the two parties is quite different. At the moment things are looking good for them. However, we live in very uncertain times. Trump is a strategic threat to our country. Hostility to him is entirely reasonable for Canadians. In fact I’m suspicious of any Canadian who still sings his praises. And his record of corruption already makes anything in Canada look trivial by comparison.

  19. Only if he wants to be elected PM. This is demonstrably not better for the economy.

  20. This is a conundrum for the Conservatives. I personally think their current policies would be better for Canada overall, as in more pipelines, much lower immigration, tougher sentencing for criminals, reduce wasteful foreign aid etc. I thought Erin O'Toole was more of a red-tory and he never gained any traction. Why vote for red tories instead of Liberals if the policies are basically the same. I do concede that the federal Liberals are virtually unbeatable. They've had more than their fair share of political scandals and a pretty poor record since 2015. And yet, it doesn't seem to matter to most Canadians who are more consumed by their hatred of Donald Trump and PP's personality than they are about the actual state of the country.

  22. The world does not feel welcome in the USA, and they are staying away. Tourism to the USA is cratering. What does the rest of the world know that the US doesn’t? 20.4 million Canadians visited the U.S. in 2024. But the 2025 numbers are dismal. Nearly half of Canadians said they canceled or delayed U.S. trips specifically because of Trump’s America. According to reporting: Border car crossings: down 37% year-over-year. Flights: down 26%. Bookings: down as much as 40% earlier in the year. And now the DHS has proposed a new rule that would require all tourists visiting the US to share the past five years of their activity on social media, as well as their contacts - names and phone numbers. I will stay away, thanks.

  23. Based on past social media posts and images. These bogus and rather numerous 'Chinese Canadian' associations are by and large extensions of the CCP within Canada. I doubt Carney has the slightest concern over Chinese foreign interference either. Remember that he stood by MP Paul Chiang even after he threatened his Conservative opponent Search Assist "Many Chinese Canadian associations have been influenced or controlled by the Chinese government, particularly through the United Front Work Department, which aims to manipulate and monitor Chinese communities abroad." Canada is lagging behind our closest neighbor in per capita gdp. https://countryeconomy.com/countries/compare/usa/canada?sc=XE34 Why are there more homeless people than ever before? Why is the number of food banks increasing? People using food banks inquiring about MAID? Health care is a mess. Food prices have gone through the roof. This is not a record to boast about. If the things mentioned above were being properly addressed, I would not hesitate to give credit to Carney and the Liberals. If Carney had managed to reach a deal with Trump(as he said he in his campaign, he was the ONLY one capable) and get US tariffs lowered, I would praise him. US tariffs on Canadian goods are higher now than they were under Trudeau. He rewarded Hamas by recognizing 'Palestine'. I'll support him when the good things he does ever demonstrably outweigh the bad things he does. Given his record to date, that doesn't appear very likely.

  24. Then maybe you could provide the citation I'm now asking a third time for this claim: Because if you can't, and this is just the latest in a long tradition of junk you've scraped off your social media feed, immediately believed and then tried to share with us here, then you may not be the best judge of competence yourself. 🙃

  25. On the other hand, this will make Alberta independence explode. Not a bad thing. And Sask is seriously thinking separating. There's rumblings in Manitoba, too. The gravy train to the East would be shut down.

  26. I'm saying that they probably thought a focus on things beyond simple punishment (like reform and rehabilitation or underlying causes of crime) would yield better results. Okay, but since we were talking about intent that seems pretty silly. Since intending to destroy Canada is a ridiculous notion in the first place, the second option makes more sense, doesn't it? In case you missed it the first time (I added it in as an edit), do you have a source for this beyond social media posts you scraped off your feed?

  29. Yeah, the truth is getting to you. You have been fed a line, and fallen for it. No-one wants to protect criminals or open the borders. The only person trying to control the media is Trump, and only his supporters have assaulted police officers in his name. "In my way" - spoken like a true MAGA. Do you want to deport me to a prison that does torture? "destructive instead of constructive" - Trump is destructive. He has destroyed the standing of the US in the world, he's divided the nation, he's destroyed democratic norms and institutions, he has destroyed the dignity of many people, he is working on destroying the economy, and even the environment. God, this is chilling. "Out of our way" begs the question - where are you going?

  31. Looks like Mr. Burns is trying to achieve a majority government without consent of voters. It's a great way to make Canadians even more cynical about politics and the value of their vote. Imagine making the effort to vote, and then watching your vote essentially nullified a few months later, through backroom dealings. The Liberals don't care about undermining democracy. They don't care if they make Canadians even more cynical. It's all about power with them. And if they have to erode Canadian institutions to do it, they won't blink an eye. Don't be surprised when voter turnout drops even more than it has over the last several years. You can vote for someone, they can win by a healthy margin, and you'll get the exact opposite outcome without any votes being cast. And the Liberal clapping seal supporters are cheering it on. A sad day in Canada.
