  1. I think this just about sums it up. Everything after that is just symptomatic of TDS.

  2. TBH, the US will protect us, even if it's just because they don't want someone else's army on the 49th. We just shouldn't take advantage of them like that though. It's like they're our daddy and we refuse to grow up.

  3. Concessions on both sides are typical of negotiations, and generally not referred to as folding. 'another all "p**ss & wind" semi-politician' - uninformed and bias comment knowing we have no idea of the discussion details or what the final deal will look like.

  4. What do you think the best strategy would have been, knowing the guy across the table has a better hand and knowing thousands of Canadian jobs need resolution to a trade deal to move forward?

  5. White liberals hate themselves. They're filled with guilt. They compare themselves to perfection rather than every other civilization ever. They want nothing short of the destruction of Western civilization. White liberals mean well, but are among the least-wise humans to ever exist. They're hopelessly self-destruction. They can't stomach the tough and sometimes brutal decisions it takes to survive in the natural world we live in. Their ideas are utopian and idealistic, they don't live in the realm of reality. And they certainly don't bother to think about the longterm consequences of the idea they implement. The path to evil is paved with good intentions.

  8. Trump ends all U.S. trade talks with Canada over digital services tax FAAAACK!!! So much for Carney being able to "handle trump". Carney was counting on that money too. So if he caves and cancels the tax he will look weak as hell and have an even bigger deficit. Not to mention the fact that the Canadian news producers won't like it. And if he tries to keep it trump won't talk trade with him so we keep our tariffs and lose more jobs Anyone who voted for this a****** thinking he somehow could handle trump deserves to be dipped in Puppy Chow and thrown to a pack of rabid poodles.

  9. Minister of Finance and National Revenue, the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, announced today that Canada would rescind the Digital Services Tax (DST) in anticipation of a mutually beneficial comprehensive trade arrangement with the United States. Consistent with this action, Prime Minister Carney and President Trump have agreed that parties will resume negotiations with a view towards agreeing on a deal by July 21, 2025. Personally I think we should have held out. Trump would have blinked. But I suspect some form of the digital services tax will resurface in every country, including the US, at some point.

  14. Trump said, there were no more negotiations. We Canadians, and therefore the whole world, was fully aware of the DST last year when it was announced. Trump just used it now for reasons only he is privy to. You and I do not know what is going on or being said behind closed doors.

  15. I think your post a couple of weeks ago asking why folks on the left oppose enforcing border laws or support illegal immigration pretty much covers this, too.

  16. You'd have to assume that of course it's part of the negotiation, and for all we know that or a similar demand could have been the talking point to dropping the DST. Fact is we don't know what the discussions and the give and take are but Carney was elected for exactly what he's doing right now....negotiating with Trump. How that looks when finalized....we'll see.

  18. The facts are that many of the comments in this thread are twisted because MP's have NOT yet had to disclose their investments. For whatever your reason you want to read that Robertson is hiding holdings because he wants to see supply dictate the price of housing, and happens to have real estate wealth. This hasn't been disclosed so to think he hid his assets from the ethics commissioner is BS. The public is set to find out more about the land and asset holdings of Canada’s new housing minister. That’s because the deadline is fast approaching for all MPs to detail their investments and potential conflicts of interest to the federal ethics commissioner, who will post the information on the public registry. https://vancouversun.com/opinion/columnists/housing-minister-gregor-robertsons-properties-justify-scrutiny

  30. Admitting past mistakes or bad policies is not self-hate. And while I didn't like Trudeau, a lot of the economic problems were down to the pandemic and its after-effects that caused the same problems we had in all the other developed countries. Yes, too much immigration too fast was a mistake, and we need to invest a lot in our industries to get our productivity up. Look around and you'll see other countries facing the same problems. Over all, we're not doing much worse or better than most. And rent and food inflation are in large part spurred by pure greed. But to say "Canada's broken' is instilling self-hate and division and not helping anyone, except the self serving politicians saying it. MSM? You're not naive enough to get all your news from social media, I hope for your sake.

  38. No, greenhouse gas emissions are and that is not even remotely the same as "pollution". Carbon emissions often accompany pollution but they are not pollution. Well, I guess that's the sound of your credibility on the subject swirling around the toilet bowl. Seriously, read a book. Climate change and pollution are two separate issues.

  39. Well we've already proven we can make it worse. No reason to think we can't make it better. "London does not still get "pea soup" smog. The infamous "pea soup" fogs, caused by coal smoke and other pollutants, were largely eliminated due to the Clean Air Acts of 1956 and 1968, which were later consolidated into the Clean Air Act 1993. These acts significantly reduced emissions from coal fires and other sources that contributed to the smog." When I was there in the 80's car exhaust made the air blue by 9 am each day. However: "London’s air quality has improved much faster and more dramatically than the rest of the UK thanks to the actions of the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, according to a new report published today. Annual roadside NO2 concentrations across the capital have been nearly halved (49 per cent) between 2016 and 2023, while preliminary figures indicate London NO2 levels were the lowest on record in 2023."

  41. No I meant internally. I'm sure Joe did more to do that in Canada than trump has, if anything trump has tried to pull us together. I think that Canada will eventually break up. I think they will come a point when the west is big enough and strong enough to decide that it's time to stand on its own and they will be fed up with the east telling them how to live. But more importantly I think trudeau turned one Canadian against the other. The sense of belonging to a larger Canada largely evaporated under his term. It flared to life for like 5 seconds when trump threatened us and now it's gone again. Anyone who's voted liberal in the last 10 years unfortunately voted for the separation of Canada given time and that's not trump's fault

  42. So what you're saying is you don't know anything about guns, but because you own one gun or did at some point in the past you feel knowledgeable enough to speak on the subject intelligently. This by having admittedly low understanding of the subject. So you weren't aware that you had to have knowledge of a subject before you could have an intelligent opinion regarding laws with regards to that subject. Muh Feels is good enough eh? As it turns out you don't actually need any knowledge at all with regards to firearms in order to support laws against them. You just need to be stupid. However in my experience that tends to be those on the left more than on the right. The police have come out against the latest gun laws and gun bans and gun collections, absolutely no criminal expert has ever suggested that they would make any difference whatsoever, and the fiscal experts have pointed out is going to be a lot more expensive then the liberals have suggested and question whether that's intelligent at a time that we are already significantly over budget given the fact that nobody thinks it's going to help. But yeah, you can ignore the science and the experts and go with muh feels if that's the kind of person you are, sure.

  44. It’s not wrong, everything I said about MAGA is correct amd Im willing to acknowledge that it applies to many/most democrats as well. As for everything else, the TL;DR is that 1) EU and UK already have a similar tax 2) it is a Canadian transaction conducted in Canadian dollars with Canadian consumers via Canadian bank accounts. The mere fact that Canada can tax these transactions is self-evident 3) The fact that US firms currently make up the majority of this second is irrelevant, they are competing o tue same terms as Canadian businesses in this space 4) Canada doesn’t have to eat the cost of this tax which they clearly communicated years in advance, nor should it. The government of Canada makes Canadian laws, the government is sovereign and these companies are not equals with whom it has to compromise or offer concessions or obtain their consent. The laws are fair and they received ample notice and accommodations. We have a court system they can avail themselves of if they feel otherwise and unlike the US we truly have a fair and impartial judiciary. Why would Canada absorb costs that this industry could easily afford and were provided significant advance notice of? At tax time do you demand the IRS eat the cost of your taxes simply because you don’t feel like paying although you could easily? Do you do that with any of your other bills? 5) what you don’t understand is that taxes are paid from gross revenue not net profits, meaning they can be offset with tax deductions, credits, write-offs, etc. It is not dishonest to discuss companies by gross earnings in fact EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization) is one of the most common ways to value a company. 6) Yes any country can object to some domestic policy of another country and take some action in response. Canada could object to the way USA treats some endangered species on the Gulf of Mexico or the way we think USA treats gay or black people or whatever. And we could announce some punitive action as a result. That doesn’t mean it’s legitimate or appropriate for is to do so.

  45. Any further proof needed that Carney's dealing with a complete 1diot? The tax has been public knowledge for years, the EU even has the same policy, which Trump mentions, yet the whiney Donnie Depends uses any petty excuse whatsoever to f*ck over Canada. "We hold all the cards" To a fat, demented, failed actor thinking he can play school bully that's to be expected.

  46. First of all, nobody will want to do a security agreement with NATO’s largest deadbeat. Second, the European are embroiled by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. They do not have the capability to challenge American air dominance or naval supremacy. These are the two main requirements for amphibious operations. Even the Chinese within their own coast line and amassing the military capacity to invade Taiwan for 50 years have not dared to invade. What makes you think Canada and the Euro deadbeat stand a chance against the US? By the way, we’re already there. We have military bases and airfields already on the island! You and the Euro would be invading a heavily defended US territory. Greenland was built as a defensive bulwark against Russian/Chinese air and missile threat. Canada and Greenland are defacto US unincorporated territory. Putting up any meaningful military resistance is a pipe dream. You don’t have the means or the willingness to do so. Why else is your military spending including the Europeans so abysmally low?

  47. The tax only applies to the Canadian customers of Google, Amazon, etc. It doesn't apply to non-Canadian businesses as you claimed. It really is just a hidden tax on Canadians because these companies will just pass it on to their Canadian customers. So maybe Trump is doing us a favour without realizing it. So does this DST mean if we buy something on Amazon, there will now be a 3% tax added to everything? Another Liberal ripoff.

  48. Part two: Just The News FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino alleged Tuesday that the bureau's prior leadership "chose to play politics" and hide evidence from the American people of a Chinese plot to hijack the 2020 U.S. election with fake mail-in ballots for Joe Biden. The two FBI leaders' statement came a week after Just the News reported Patel turned over to Congress earlier this month a long-hidden intelligence report raising concerns that China had mass-produced fake U.S. driver's licenses to carry out a scheme to swing the 2020 election to Biden with fake mail-in ballots. Patel located the evidence based on information that Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, got from whistleblowers and forwarded to the FBI, officials said. Patel and Bongino said Tuesday they are committed to getting Grassley and the American public more evidence about the plot and the failure to fully investigate it. “Based on our continued review and production of FBI documents related to the CCP’s plot to interfere in the 2020 U.S. Presidential election, previous FBI leadership chose to play politics and withhold key information from the American people – exposing the weaponization of law enforcement for political purposes during the height of the 2020 election season," Patel and Bongibo said in statement given to Just the News. "Thanks to the great Oversight work of Chairman Grassley, the information the old FBI regime covered up will now be released to the public," they added. "This FBI leadership team will continue keeping our promise of aggressive transparency and working around the clock to fix the underlying problems to restore the FBI to the trusted institution the American people deserve." The newly declassified intelligence reports from August 2020 weren’t corroborated or fully investigated and instead were recalled from intelligence agencies at about the time that then-FBI Director Chris Wray testified there were no known plots of foreign interference ahead of the 2020 election in which Biden defeated Donald Trump, officials told Just the News. When they were recalled, FBI officials asked fellow spy agencies to destroy their copies of the intelligence report, which included detailed information from a cooperating confidential human source. “This report was recalled in order to re-interview the source. Recipients should destroy all copies of the original report and remove the original report from all computer holdings,” the recall notice obtained by Just the News stated. The subject line of the FBI intelligence bulletin succinctly stated the potential nature of the alleged plot: “Chinese Government Production and Export of Fraudulent US Driver's Licenses to Chinese Sympathizers in the United States, in Order to Create Tens of Thousands of Fraudulent Mail-in Votes for US Presidential Candidate Joe Biden, in late August 2020 That said, the FBI bulletin provided significantly detailed information for agencies to investigate as leads to make sure the U.S. election wasn’t being hijacked by a foreign power seeking to exploit a sudden explosion in mail-in voting during the COVID-19 pandemic that struck earlier in 2020. “In late August 2020, the Chinese government had produced a large amount of fraudulent United States driver’s licenses that were secretly exported to the United States,” the report reads “The fraudulent driver's licenses would allow tens of thousands of Chinese students and immigrants sympathetic to the Chinese Communist Party to vote for U.S. presidential candidate USPER Joe Biden despite not being eligible to vote in the United States." "China had collected private US user data from millions of TikTok accounts, to include name, ID and address, which would allow the Chinese government to use real US persons' information to create the fraudulent driver's license,” the report continues. “The fraudulent driver’s licenses were to include true ID number and true address of US citizens, making them difficult to detect. China planned to use the fraudulent driver’s licenses to account for tens of thousands of mail-in votes.” ‐--------------‐-------------- This is why TikTok needs to be banned in the US.
