I am attempting to spearhead a public healthcare opposition response to the Kenney government's assault on healthcare. Our plans have to be as comprehensive and detailed as possible. 1. At this moment, I am trying to figure out how MLAs communicate between themselves. I presume this is via "Dear Colleague" letters. But, I am not certain if there is a particular format, and as to whether there are rules of decorum regarding such. Does anyone have any information they can share regarding this? 2. Does anyone have any advice as to how to research individual MLAs, in regards to what their election campaign platforms were, what they have spoken out about, what their constituent cross-section looks like, what their particular important pillars of support are within their region. Sure, the short answer is: google it. But I am hoping that people might be able to offer up some specific online resources etc that are particularly useful. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. By helping here you might be making an important contribution to the future existence of public healthcare in this country. Me too, thank you for saying this so well. My neighborhood would be so much less interesting filled with all-white people, doing all the same things in all the same fashions. Yeah sometimes the curry smell is a bit overpowering, but I'd miss the beautiful saris and the color coordination of turbans with today's outfit. And who doesn't love the lights of Diwali from October to November? Or driving by the beautiful architecture of various Churches, Temples and Mosques? Giving up Chinese New Year or the annual Greek Days Festival just to keep Canada White isn't acceptable, and think of the food we'd lose without immigration. Middle Eastern food is some of the best food I've ever tasted, not as spicy as SA, much tastier than the bland British food I grew up with. Who would really want to give up Sushi or Pho or Greek or Italian or real Chinese food in exchange for the meat/potatoe/vegetable Canadian speciality (though I love that too, of course). My life is much richer because of immigrants to this country. And the ability to be accepting and tolerant, as a country, is a strength. It gives us friends around the world. ETA ... I tried to read the Washington Post article but there's a paygate. Went to your link to the hard Left British newspaper, The Guardian. It's clips from the thousand page Senate report giving a completely deceptive idea of what the report was about. They've clipped out he-said/she-said stuff and what somebody believed that somebody else believed and such like that to suggest this is the evidenced fact from the report and it all says Trump was involved. It becomes tinfoil hat stuff. They even try to resurrect the salacious "Trump peed on Russian hookers" lie with innuendo. In truth the report was simply to investigate if or how Russia interfered with the last election. It wasn't about Trump. There is some unevidenced innuendo that maybe Trump might have been thinking or doing such and such. As I said though The Guardian found that and it's there for the tinfoil crowd if they want it. I glanced at the Politico article. Apparently Adam Schiff believes something or other. Shifty Schiff lied daily for 3 years that he had hard evidence of Trump colluding with Russia. He never produced it. Mueller never produced it. It didn't exist. Then he embarked on that hopeless, clown show of prevarication that was the Impeachment hearings. He's a joke. He wouldn't know the truth if it bit him in the ass. At some point one has to say 'that's enough of that' as far as what Adam Schiff claims to believe. Wikipedia? What a great post, i think all of same things you mentioned. I think the best thing that we can do is be aware it, & of our own biases. If we're aware of it, we won't be easily fooled. A pundit pushing a view based on half the facts or lies is no different than a car salesman or banker trying to sell us a product but not telling us the whole truth. We need to read to read the fine print, & do our research. We can be passive lemmings, or engaged & aware of what's happening around us. Putting our head in the sand is much less effort. The cost/benefit analysis is for each of us to decide. I have some friends who are dumb but they're also really happy people, they don't care about politics. They believe in God, & angels, & that everything happens for a reason, & cynicism hasn't beaten them down. For them it's worth it. I wish I still had the romance of those things from my youth. We only have a certain amount of hours in the day. Worrying about these things & posting on forums can be a waste of time if we do it too much. When I was a child & didn't care about politics I was happy. Other people worried about that stuff for me, laws still got passed, I just lived my happy little life. But I also had my parents to fight for me. Now I have to fight for myself. I can defend myself against the banker trying to rip me off, but in politics I'm only 1 vote, and it won't be missed much if I stay home. The other "stupid" people I disagree with politically, I try to empathize with them, & to assume good intentions. Someone pro-life isn't trying to control women, they're trying to save the life of innocent babies. I'm not sure if he's cut the funding to universities that push it yet but a week ago or so he did cut the funding to organizations that were pushing what's called "critical race theory' to government workers. It really just makes me want to withdraw, but I don't think that's a solution. I do my level best to remove my own bias, but I'm only human. It's disheartening to be looking for accuracy, and have so much noise to deal with. I spend lots of time reminding myself that even people I think are stupid as fck, probably aren't. Its not a good feeling to consider that everything I believe today is wrong; it reminds me of how I felt in a relationship in which I was gaslighted. But another side of me, a more removed part, is fascinated by this apparent devolution of society, wonder where it will lead, and even whether older people in the 1960s felt the same as women's rights and African-American rights and openly sexual behavior changed the culture. I'm bloody thankful I live in a place with a largely intelligent population that apparently knows how to take serious people seriously. I suspect contact tracing will be popular enough in BC it will easily pass becoming mandatory especially for visitors and of course people returning from jurisdictions where people prefer morons over experts.
