You can’t separate politics from culture and the hard reality is that some cultures are kinder and more rational than others. It’s not inherent in skin colour or any other superficial markings, and cultures can evolve. We always have to be careful not to paint every member of a particular group with the same brush, unless having a particular bad trait is a requirement for membership. Being born into a particular race or culture doesn’t make you guilty of anything. Once we learn enough to understand that we have some choice in our views and lifestyles, then we do bear responsibility. There are good and bad people everywhere, but it’s harder for people to be better in some cultures than others. I’m grateful to live here with the rights and freedoms we have.

Yes, and US intelligence was aware in November and Canadian intelligence was aware in January according to a link I posted. So why did Trump do nothing for months? Why did he downplay its seriousness for months? Why is it WHO's fault if countries sit on their collective asses, despite having the same or better information than WHO does? If these various reports are true and WHO knew in November, and the US knew in November and Trump knew "way before WHO called it a pandemic", why aren't you calling for an investigation into the US intelligence and Trump? Why only WHO? Why won't you insist on US authorities taking responsibility for failing to recommend travel shut downs or wearing masks? Why do you ignore the way Trump downplayed the seriousness of this virus - even though he knew way before the rest the world how serious it was. I don't really care how stupid Trump is, you know. I doubt the stories about the US intelligence knowing about the virus in November are true; I'm more inclined to believe that both US and Canadian intelligence got similar information regarding how it could progress, well before it was called a pandemic, perhaps in late December or early January. I expect they said nothing to the unwashed masses (thats us) because they hoped China would be able to contain it. As I've said before, everybody made mistakes somewhere - starting years ago by not being prepared for a pandemic. Trump just wants to scapegoat WHO because he spent months reassuring Americans that it wasn't serious, it was under control, it would be gone by Easter, for for failing to have medical supplies prepared, for failing to develop or implement any kind of coherent plan. That's all on Trump, not WHO, just as it's on Trudeau for hesitating until the last possible moment before taking any action. But at least Trudeau eventually took some decent action, instead of playing around on Twitter and recommending quack cures.

The main difference in approach was the strong public health information campaign and press conferences. Trudeau reinforced and worked with them. The official position was always quite clear and unified. Science was always at the fore and politics barely emerged, except over smaller issues like when to resume a full parliament.

It was news, but not the way CNN obsessed over it. They did this for ratings. This is a result of the absolutism, left vs right mentality that has overtaken U.S. and to some extent in Canada. Especially if you are not in economic difficulties. If you worked for any of the levels of government, including schools and universities, you're still collecting your paycheque. Many others, especially in finance and tech, are working from home. The poorest with retail jobs are probably getting as much from the government as they made at work. But there is another group which was making more than your average retail worker, but either doesn't qualify for CERB or is getting way less with it, who are going to be hurting the most (aside from the victims, of course). And lots of retail store and restaurant owners, the small, independents ones, are going to be totally screwed. The millennials who got screwed with the last big financial meltdown are going to be the ones taking it on the chin again with this one. Especially if the economy doesn't just burst into full throated power in a year but wastes away for years to come.
