This is exactly how we treated many viral infections before vaccines existed. It is also what has already been done in other places where people who were asymptomatic or suffered only mild symptoms have given transfusions to others (or had plasma harvested and re-injected to others) with success...exactly because as you suggest, they have the antibodies within their serum. Also regarding vaccines: there are several candidates now undergoing testing on some kind of accelerated schedule. Here is but one of many...this one somewhat Canadian: https://globalnews.ca/news/6671901/coronavirus-canadian-company-covid-19-vaccine-candidate/ Worth noting this is from the same cluster of academics (not sure if same company) that created the treatment and vaccine that brought ebola under control. There is a LOT going on that is fairly close to production. For instance, a serological test for antibodies that will allow detection of those who are or have been infected (refer back to first paragraph). Here is 62 PAGES of papers regarding current and other applicable research regarding corona virus: https://connect.medrxiv.org/relate/content/181 If you bother to learn a bit about viral disease (and I admit to suffering a great deal of ignorance on the topic) you will realize that natural evolution of most biota will have them seek new opportunities to proliferate. Suggest leaving the tinfoil hat on your dresser for a while and reading a bit about the science and realize that this is just the normal evolution of a virus and not likely (as it would be VERY difficult) some evil conspiracy to bio-engineer something.2 points

I started posting on here in 2005 during my first tour in Afghanistan, during that time lots of false info being posted on here about the conflict, so I began posting what life was really like in the army and in Afghanistan, back in the day I could have gotten in a lot of trouble about posting on this media about the good , bad and ugly and everything else that was going on in Afghanistan. as long as it was unclassified....hence the generic name...I was tired of soldiers getting a bad rap, that was undeserved nor warranted, it just kind of stuck, now that I'm retired I'm even more vocal...2 points

I guess that you have noticed for decades now that those employees that are supposed to work for you are not really working for or listening too you at all, and they never will either. They will just say to you to just pay your bloody taxes and shut your face. Our dear leaders know what is good for you all. All I am seeing these days from your dear leaders is more government and more taxes and for sure more bull shit. They sure can spread that crap around with no problem. So, if you are wanting them to pander to you, then I would suggest that you first go on a nice long vacation for a nice long time after this virus bull shit is over. Maybe by then one will have listened too you when you get back, if you get that lucky. Trust me, there will be no contact made with you. We the sheeple are not the boss here. Our dear leaders are the bosses around here. Got it, dear Canadian taxpayer yet? Gees, I hope so!1 point

Lol. I watched a documentary on time about an African tribe. They counted like this "1, 2 many". That was it. Anything more than 2 was just "many". In that tribe I guess you learn everything you need to know about math in 10 minutes or less.1 point

Trump has NEVER been a conservative of any kind. Don't you know ANYTHING about the man you've raised up as a god? He was a Democrat, pro choice, a gambler, a whoremonger and party animal, and never went near a church or a bible (except to marry models). Anything he's said since he decided to run is the mouthings of a lifelong sales guy with the integrity of a used car salesman from Schenectady. Even his own former staff said he would tell prospective buyers whatever he thought they wanted to hear, constantly lying about the materials which went into the luxury condos he built.1 point

I'm really starting to get concerned on where your head space and timing is really at, and what is your core morals and values, I mean allowing medical experiments on prisoners, where does it stop after that.....why not just take an extra step and end their lives upon conviction, saving bils on housing and feeding and all the wages on guarding them.... do we also look at getting rid of the elderly, before they become a burden, what of the handicap line them up as well... Some one once said a nation is judged by how well it treats it's prisoners' and less fortunate during a crises I think your getting a failing grade...1 point

China is a very big place (1/4 of the whole world) and just as with every other immigrant candidate, we should simply be selective of WHO is coming in, not where they are from.1 point
-
No. The reason to be concerned about migration from China are the spies that they send to spy on our businesses to steal our IP and to spy on our government departments and facilities. It's also a concern that the once here, Chinese migrants are to be loyal to China or their family back home with be threatened or jailed by the government. But it's also a big problem to discriminate against all Chinese migrants obviously, so either way we're in a pickle.1 point

True....did people really expect the blackface prime minister who got outsmarted for two weeks with basic railroad blockades was suddenly going to emerge as Canada's champion for fighting a global pandemic ? C'mon man !1 point

I don't wish to distract from your message but would just like to caution against the use of raw statistics. Without further details about whether those under 65 who have been hospitalised had pre-existing health conditions simple percentages can be misleading. Neither of the links seem to mention these details. Due to the lack of more detailed information I would agree with you that everyone not just the elderly needs to exercise extreme caution but that may well be sloppy reporting.1 point

Trudeau is a mouthpiece. Getting mad at him is pointless. No elected official is capable of doing anything right in the sense that during this issue there are thousands if not millions of so called experts often with different opinions. I don't see partisan analysis of leaders at a time like this being accurate. They do what the people surrounding them tell them to do. Governments are not magic. Medicine and science is not magic. There are no miracle pills or cures for anything but there are thousands if not billions of layers of bureaucracy when any decision is made.1 point

Which would collapse the world's economy quicker than the black death. Every Chinese product sold in the west is making money for the importers and retailers and saving money for the hard pressed consumers who choose to buy it. Besides, if you did stop buying Chinese goods production would simply move to the next cheap labour nation along the line. The only way to compete with cheap labour nations for productivity is to lower your own wages or automate, neither of which is going to help Joe Bloggs struggling to pay his mortgage and put food on the table.1 point

Rue, I arbitrarily chose 1975. IMV, Vietnam was an important battle - like Dieppe, Dunkerque - in defeating an enemy. Make no mistake: America won the Cold War. Why? Americans fought in Vietnam.1 point

Can't be any worse than mefloquine, given to troops by our government while it was still marked experimental....they forgot to add that it kills your empathy, turns you into a zombie, one minute your laughing your head off, then crying the next....and when you get 1200 troops all taking it on the same night , buckle the f*** up it's going to be a party...1 point

Good point on the government, I agree wholeheartedly. Once I and my wife, and our adult kids and friends are all off work, and everything shut down, and no bread, meat or TP on the shelves, at least we can hit the bottle. Just like the good old days back in the USSR.1 point

Yep....that's how it goes. When I was a child, we were forced to line up for polio and other recently developed vaccines (DPT). The oral polio vaccine was drops on sugar cubes or injected at public locations. They had photos of people in iron lungs, and once we got to tour one to scare the hell out of us and boost vaccine compliance.1 point

Now here is a positive story....a Canadian doctor in Perth, Ontario has demonstrated the way to double the capacity of ventilators in case of a shortage....learned it from YouTube ! The technique was first tried in practice by doctors in Las Vegas after the mass shooting in 2017. Salute to these and all health care professionals on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/perth-ventilator-covid-19-1.55018911 point

I think it will be a lockdown situation for at least two weeks, probably starting Canada-wide by this weekend, because the only way for sure to stop the spread until it becomes symptomatic and the people who have it recover is to wait two full weeks. I know that was the plan in Ontario, in case anyone is out of the country for our March Break, which ends this weekend. That two weeks will have to be strictly enforced or else this could go on much longer. What’s more, the chain is only as strong as its weakest link, meaning that if any one of our other provinces or trading partners doesn’t impose similar restrictions and get to zero new cases, we can’t travel to such places or allow entry from such places. If we don’t want this to drag out beyond another several weeks, I can see no other option than to have tight restrictions around outside movement, limited to certain essential purposes. The grocers and pharmacies will have to maintain strict protocols for social distancing and hygiene from the point of entry to the point of departure. Only if such measures are followed and we get to zero new and unresolved cases can we begin a form of return to work, but this will have to build in small groupings, social distancing, and careful hygiene, at least for a while. Can our society handle this? Can our economy? What choice do we have? The only other option is letting the spread happen and accepting the loss of life. I think that might put us right back where we are now, but with many dead and an overwhelmed health system, not to mention pariah status and a closed society. The hygiene of essential workers will have to be closely maintained and monitored. Quite simply, people can’t be touching each other or surfaces and they can’t be anywhere near each other, especially for those who must travel between jurisdictions. I think we need to get real now, as the costs will pile up the longer this goes on. Even with the strictest possible measures that still allow us to access essentials, I think this will last a long time.1 point

Well, I disagree. Compared to how previous European states respected individual rights, I reckon that the EU respects - willy, nilly - the individual. ==== IMHO, never in human history have we lived in States (China, Russia, European, India, South American) where we - individuals such as myself - have been as free to do what we do, with so little intrusion from the State.1 point

So Americans are American ? Do you have to prefix "as a foreigner", before stating obvious facts ? This is a peculiar artifact of your style. As a man, as an MLW poster, as a biped... I reckon, I believe, I opine... that... I write statements, I breathe oxygen, the world is a world. It's like you are stalling for time with a burglar, who is unaware that your wife is sneaking up behind him with the frying pan...0 points
