  1. Vice President gives NATO members another warning, if your spending 2 % or more then you need to pressure other nations into doing it as well, if you have a plan to spend 2 % then you need to accelerate it . and if you don't have a plan ,"get one" dead line is 2018...... Already our PM has said we are stepping up to the plate with troops.....this is how our nation pays makes it's contributions...Bullshit....how can Canadians expect to be part of an alliance that states in it's constitution that each member "MUST" spend a minimum of 2 % GDP....it also states it must provide troops and equipment when asked to do so......not one or the other..... Currently Canada spends less than .99% of GDP....I wonder, what Trump and trudeau talked about during their first meeting....we know NAFTA was on the table, what we don't know is if defense spending was a topic.....and if so what was said....one would have hoped the clear and transparent Liberal government would not keep us in the dark.....But then again, what do we know we still speculating about the admiral firing...... Perhaps this is what our country needs is to be forced to spend our share of defense costs for our defence pacts we have signed onto....We know this is going to kick most Canadians in the balls as it is their least favorite topic.....I just hope the trump administration keeps it's word, by applying the right pressure .....Now the US has already said pay up or the US will pull out, and if that is the case , then NATO will become a toothless organization with out them. So how does this effect Canada....well Canada will have to decide if it's european partners are worth spending any funding on, we all know the answer to that one, Canadians are not worth it , how will euro's make out........Or will they also decide to pull out.....One can also say that Canada will atleast have to pick up it's share of the Norad Tab, which is currently is less than 10 % today.....But the US might also ask to pony up for our share of Naval and Army costs to protect North America.....either way, those sunny days are over for all the major parties riding the wave to the beach might have a cost to it........Canada will have to pay its share of the Defense of this nation....instead of free loading , and doing squat with all that funding we save by being cheap bastards.......

  2. Trump has only been in power for a month, he has nothing to do with why we don't spend what we should on defence. You paid it lip service before Trump and will continue to do so after Trump. Pure deflection. If Russia is having undue influence on the US, all the more reason to look after ourselves.

  3. Canada has no sovereignty, we have looked after that by allowing our military to be depleted todays condition.....So yes we have already given all of that away, to the US as they pay the bills and look after things....as for the Unpatriotic to hope our nation will roll over to the USA....."*******" is my reply......... i spent 34 years in the service defending my country, hoping one day something like this would happen, some one would force our nation to give just one percent of the effort, time, and blood, sweet, and tears that our military gives this country every day.....I did not sit in my comfy chair in the basement, watching porn, and talking what is patriotic and what is not ,on public forums.... no sir i was living the dream..... They don't need air defense systems over canada, they'll defend themselves by destroying missiles and threats over Canada.....The AD systems they wanted to install would see all that stuff destroyed over the arctic.....either way the US is going to defend itself.....

  14. Then i guess the federal government will be looking at all the books and making adjustments......The US government has already said, the deadline is 2018, if you have a plan excellerate it, if you dont have a plan get one......no where did it say, Sorry mister i simple can't do that.....Canada will be shown the door if it does not come up with a plan that works for everyone.

  15. President Trump is not the first to point out NATO spending deadbeats like Canada and Germany. Obama said the same thing...in Ottawa. Next time, don't call the USA to tow Canada's broke dick ships back to port.

  16. When you sign a contract for admitance to a defensive pact for 2 % , then that means the correct amount is 2 %want to change that then go back to the table........don't like it then get out of NATO.....it's really that simple....We have been free loading for the last 40 plus years, and have pissed away all that funding on stupid shit.....want things like health care , education then dig deeper into your pockets.....can't have the cake and eat it as well..... Besides what are you liberals worried about, last month you said we could spend tens of bils with little effect on national debt, just think of how many jobs we could create, it's a liberal dream really.....win win....now all the arm chair critics will finally have something to complain about.....

  17. I had requested for the like feature.....and I still think a like feature is good. However, reputation ratings is a bad idea. By putting this kind of reputation ratings - MLF is actually enabling, and helping in the BIASED "assassination" of posters' reputation in this forum. How can you do that to your members? You refused to put up a suspension and ban list as your way of protecting your members.....and yet you put up something like this? Why do you want to demoralize your members from speaking their minds, delivering their own style, stifling them to "sanitize" the way they deliver? This board is so dead already as it is, and a lively fiery debates are what's needed to stimulate interest to attract newbies into signing in. Why do you want it bland? If it is the desire of MLF to cleanse this board of posters who doesn't share their views.....you don't have to go to this length. Just say so that certain posters are better off to go elsewhere.

  18. How is it going to be funneled into strictly American companies, Most of our equipment is of European design, our armour vehs, the AOR design are german, in fact the new ships are European design, so other than Fighters, what major buy are we planing with the US. Canadian corporations, sometimes you liberal guys make me laugh, our defense industry produces what exactly, the LAV 6.0, designed for low to medium intensity conflicts. Why do we have to complicate a equipment purchase with this over riding factor, that in most cases provides DND with sub par equipment, Canada does not have any real defense industry, so why force our own nation to shop at home. I did'nt seem to bother the liberal government when it purchased new SAR Aircraft, when a home built was available..... Maybe you can name all those high tech wpns systems we have right now.. if no more high tech equipment what are we going to spend all that money on , improved wages.....new infra structure, maybe some more western star trucks, .....well some of that may be on the wish list, i'm sure there are alot of equipment purchases in there.....

  20. That's nonsense. We already know the motion will pass. We already know the resulting study will call for further action. It is very likely that further action will be a tightening of the laws on free speech simply because there is nothing else that can likely be done to discourage people from 'Islamophobia' given that we already have hate speech laws and already have laws against assault and discrimination. Not that I think such laws will do a blessed thing to discourage 'Islamophobia' of course. We have ample evidence of that by looking to Europe, where they have been a singular failure. And where the devotion of mainstream political parties to encouraging love of Islam and migrants has led to the explosive growth of extreme right wing parties all across the continent.

  21. I'm assuming this is a rhetorical question, Rue, as you surely understand that our progressive media is 100% behind anyone who claims to be a refugee for any reason from any country on the planet, if they're not white anyway. If Trudeau announced he was tripling refugee intake he'd get virtually no opposition from the media. City mayors tend to be political whores. Certainly the ones in Toronto and Montreal are, as well as the one in Ottawa. If there's a progressive band wagon within a hundred miles they'll run like hell to jump on board. Do they care about refugees? Not in the slightest! But it's fashionable to support refugees in the face of evil Donald Trump. In fact, it's fashionable among the Left, which means the media, to support pretty much ANYTHING Trump is against. I wish I had a lot of money. I'd put together an animated commercial and run it on all the major networks. It would show a poor, elderly Montreal woman in line for space at a city housing project. Along comes Codere, violently throwing her out of the way, and bowing before a woman in a hijab, smiling ingratiatingly at her as a little crowd of reporters gathers around, cameras flashing. Then, as an ambulance comes to pick up the elderly woman laying on the road Coderre would run in front of them again, and direct them to a refugee who has a small cut on his finger, all while the media cameras whir. Of course, the cameras would not be looking at the elderly woman without housing or health care, but only at how nice Coderre is being to the refugees. One of the few things Donald Trump has done that I approve of is his direction to cut any federal funding that can be cut from sanctuary cities. I would strongly advocate doing the same thing here, and let the citizens of those cities do without or raise their own taxes in order to help fund services for non-Canadians who came here illegally. It'd be interesting to see what affect that had on the asshat mayors next election.

  23. Your obsessions are getting the better of you again. No one has been more critical of the Harper government on defense than I have, but they didn't start the neglect of our military. That started back in Trudeau Senior's day, and has continued, largely unabated, through every government, Liberal, PC and Conservative, since then. Just as it continues today under Trudeau junior. I have ZERO doubts that were it not for Trump, the upcoming budget, where the Liberals need to start to address their rising deficits, would target the military for big cuts. AGAIN.

  24. O Allah, take your enemies, the enemies of Islam. O Allah, take the Jews, the treacherous aggressors. O Allah, take this profligate, cunning, arrogant band of people. O Allah, they have spread much tyranny and corruption in the land. Pour Your wrath upon them, O our God. Lie in wait for them. O Allah, You annihilated the people of Thamoud (An early pagan Arab tribe) with an overpowering blast, and You annihilated the people of 'Aad with a fierce, icy gale, and You destroyed the pharaoh [of Exodus] and his soldiers – O Allah, take this oppressive, tyrannical band of people. O Allah, take this oppressive, Jewish Zionist band of people. O Allah, do not spare a single one of them. O Allah, count their numbers, and kill them, down to the very last one. ---al-Qawadawi Look familiar?

  29. Fine, but it won't happen over night and it won't be cheap. Personally, I think pooling resources with other countries to develop systems is a better way to go. Europe has done it with combat aircraft like the Typhoon, Tornado and Jaguar. The cost of developing and building some of these systems is enormous and there is a lot of competition for a limited number of sales, because of their cost. In today's dollars you could buy over 80 WW2 fighters like a P-51 or 30 B-17 bombers for the cost of one modern fighter. Modern weapons they carry is whole other story.

  30. No more or no less then we already do (likewise European corporations), all that will change is the amount of actual money........and of course, that is assuming most of said increase goes into procurement, as opposed to an increase in personal......personal of course account for ~60-70% of spending by the DND. No, quite the opposite.........Canadian corporations should only receive contracts for items that actually offer a measure of capability, at a reasonable price, to the military.......what you suggest results in the Ross Rifle, CF-5 Freedom Fighter and the LSVW (and other such disasters) Infrastructure, without a doubt in my mind, would be a major portion of it. We do if we wish to remain apart of collective defense treaties.

  39. ......37 years is a very long time to revisit a doctrine by a Democrat despised by conservatives....Besides things have changed dramatically in the politics since. I just love the fact the hardheaded conservatives use Obama and other Democrats like Carter as a scapegoat to exonerate Trump right now.... Let's revisit the history and what has happened since 1980 shall we. We have had the Iran/ Iraq war. The accidental shooting of an Iranian passenger airplane by US warship oblivious to the fact that it is a civilian not war plane and for which the captain never apologised..., the Iran/ Iraq war and the infamous handshake of Donald (Oh yes not Trump the Orange Oligarch) Rumsfeld and Saddam use of chemicals against Kurds in Halabja, the Iran contra scandal under Reagan by Oliver North, 9/11 attacks by guess who? The very Saudi culprits that were provided the military might by the US of A, the bombing of taliban camps, Kuwait invasion leading to invasion of Iraq and toppling of Saddam and the list goes on.... It's such a lazy way of thinking to exonerate a right wing like Trump for what has happened in the past....

  40. The nuclear deal between Iran and the West is working just fine... The shot by the national security advisor to dismiss the nuclear deal was s not surprising since they don't like it...The reality is that nuclear deal is being complied with by both sides to a very large extent. The time that Iran will take to build nuclear weapon has gone and time to get nuclear material has tipped from just few months when the deal started to now more than a year, whish is what some people cannot understand including you....

  42. Uh-oh, nonsense alert. The thought that Trump is somehow responsible for this heinous crime is beyond ridiculous. There were SEVERAL such attacks in the US during Obama's terms, in spite of his many substantial overtures and moves with regard to the Muslim world in general. No, the crazed among us do not need Obamas or Trumps to rise to power to give them the go ahead some kind of sign to launch out and attack innocents. And then there is Europe, which has been bending over backwards to the Muslim world for many years. I could tick of the many such attacks over there, but there is no point in embarrassing anybody.

  43. What nonsense. Rudy Giuliani cleaned up New York just fine without enacting any such thing. What you have yet to realize is, Trump will float several ideas and say many things before revealing the actual course of action. The constant knee jerk reaction to everything Trump says and does plays effectively into his, uh, plans. I hope the popcorn is tasty. I'd recommend popping it old school on the stove, the way grandma used to make it.

  44. Well, it is a big step, actually a chasm. Totalitarianism is what you're talking about, places like North Korea, China, Iran and several other mid east countries as well as Isis. The US has banned waterboarding, and is now reconsidering. I outlined a scenario in which its known that a terrorist has the goods on a mass murder attack(this could easily happen with intercepting cell phone calls or old fashioned surveillance). No one wants to even consider it because it forces them to say it's okay to save thousands of lives by waterboarding.

  49. Perhaps so they can figure out why a Canadian would go to a Mosque and shoot six people, so they could prevent that happening again. Maybe they don't like hearing stories about women having their hijabs ripped off, or pig's heads being left at Mosques or "Muslims go home" graffiti. Perhaps they think those sorts of things suggest an underlying problem and want to study it so they can address that problem. Who knows? Once they do the study, maybe they'll decide it's unwise to bring in more Muslim refugees and to cut back on immigration from Muslim countries because the good citizens of Canada are too scared to cope.

  50. Is it hyperbole or mere sarcasm? I don't think it's hysterical either. And he's right about the inevitable results of taking large numbers of young men who have never been exposed to more than a female ankle, if that, who have been taught from birth that any woman who doesn't dress modestly is a total whore and putting them on the streets of Sweden, or for that matter, Australia or Canada. Western women do not act in any way, shape or form the way a proper Muslim woman is supposed required to act. In fact, they act in ways which would bring shame and humiliation on a Muslim man from that region if they were related to him. They dress in ways which would get them mobbed in a Middle East country. And the entire Middle east male population has taken it as a given for at least the last few decades, that western women are whores, almost mythical creatures of sexual abandon. I posted a column by a British woman a short time back who related how she and her sisters had to live in Turkey for a year or so when their father was posted there as a diplomat. In 1993, when I was 17 and my sister were 12 and 11, our family moved to the Turkish capital, Ankara, because of my father’s job with the UN’s refugee agency, the UNHCR. For the next two years we were leered at, jeered at, hissed at, groped and touched, again and again and again, every single time we left the house. The only time this treatment lessened was if we went out with my father. Once I was groped and hit in the face right outside the president’s palace. The guards responded by hooting and laughing and shoving their pelvises at me. And remember that Turkey is supposedly one of the more 'enlightened' of the middle east states. So just what the hell do you think is going to happen when we bring hundreds of thousands of men from that environment here? What happens when one goes to a swimming pool and sees a bunch of teenage girls prancing around in bikinis?
