https://nationalpost.com/opinion/senate-votes-to-jail-canadians-for-residential-school-denialism

The only vote against was from a Senator who said it wouldn’t go far enough

On Monday, the Senate’s standing committee on human rights introduced a one-line clause to the Combatting Hate Act criminalizing the act of “condoning, denying or downplaying the Indian residential school system.”

Any Canadian caught doing so, unless it was in “private conversation,” would be “guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment not exceeding two years.”

THis is the left today.   You are literally watching the left trying to destroy free speech.

I doubt many on the left here are going to speak out against it.  When the right gets back into power we are going to have to make sure things swing the other way or we will be branded criminals.  We have to start putting the left in jail for proposing stuff like this.

You already are.

The Senate and Parliament said so. But your "right" to lie in order to spread hate is over. Wah, wah!

They're gonna start rounding Canadians up and throwing them (us) in jail.

I'm pretty sure that they arrested people in Britain for things that they said before internet fascism became law there.

There are comments that we made here, which are true, but don't fit within the "res schools were built for the sole purpose of committing genocide" narrative that we are supposed to adhere to.

The good news is that we can now accuse Pierre Elliot Trudeau of committing genocide, and no one can deny it, or they will go to jail.

The senate said so, and the only one who wants the right to lie around here is the leftist :)

You've always made it clear that you think anyone with a different opinion than yours should be arrested, so no surprise you're in favour :)

Hasn't been 50 years of it. The left side different opinions but for generation after generation both sides respected the others right to have a different opinion

It's only been since a roundabout 2010 the people like you started becoming violently opposed to people who had different opinions and wanted them hurt physically and legally. As the left proves in an almost daily basis now the left has become all about violence and hatred. You especially Mr "Oct 7 was an exercise in human rights".

They seem to have figured it out a little bit in the states realizing that trump is a better choice than Kamala Harris just because this is what the left has become. Sooner or later that's going to happen in Canada and when it does there will be a massive blow back.

I said this again and again when biden was in power - you on the left who don't speak out about his abuses won't be listened to when the roles are reversed.  And now they're seeing that.

I know you think it's not possible but sooner or later it will happen here too, and nothing you say will be of interest to others.

No one said anything about "lying to spread hate". The word lying isn't in there.

This is about "making it illegal to say anything that runs contrary to the official narrative".

For example, if someone was to say: "The res schools weren't created just to commit genocide and molest kids", that would be a crime. When you speak about the reason for creating the schools, you have to say that they were genocide camps. Eg, "Pierre Elliot Trudeau funded the residential schools to help complete the genocide."

If the Cultist Narrative Network/Cultist Broadcasting Corporation gave an infinite number of monkeys an infinite number of typewriters, leftists would believe everything they typed.

IMO it's far worse to say "They deserved Oct 7" than anything I've ever heard anyone say about the res schools.

No, you've simply drawn a stupid conclusion from your defective mind. You'free to have an opinion, but racism is not simply an opinion.
It's a f&cking mental disease.

How do you have "truth" in "truth and reconciliation" when certain people are muzzled for fear of jail time for challenging facts and narratives?

Shouldn't people then also be jailed for spreading lies about bad things that happened re: residential schools that never actually occurred?

We shouldn't be jailing anyone for non-violent free expression of ideas. It's unconstitutional.  Free speech laws aren't designed to protect opinions the government agrees with.

Of course you didn't tell the whole truth. Not surprised! I know it's hard for you but you should read

whole articles, not just headlines.

"Although it passed the committee with minimal controversy, the amendment was defeated in a full Senate vote on Wednesday, with the Carney government declaring it would not support a similar amendment if it was included in the amended bill sent back to the House of Commons."

Who the f*ck is this person?  Does anybody know?

Nobody voted for this person.

I'm tired of people no one voted for making decisions that affect our lives, but not their's.

For sure Even carney realizes it would be political death

But that in no way shape or form takes away from the headline or the story or what I said

This is what your side wants these days. Your side literally just voted unanimously to jail people who say things they don't like. That was your people

The left is all about hatred and bigotry these days

It's not actually fascism but it is extreme socialism and totalitarianism. These are people who want to control every single element of your life and what you say and what you do and what you eat and what you think and who is you associate with. And they are currently in our government.

Who cares?  You failed to mention how it was already defeated in the Senate, which I think is pretty relevant to the discussion....🤣

In the end the Senate rejected the motion to criminalize residential school denialism.

But the fact that the government would even consider such a motion proves the Liberals and NDP are leaning toward Marxism.  That is the kind of ideology they hold.  They are becoming more intrusive in everyday life in every way they can.  They think they can control AI which is something far beyond their power to control.

The senate is not controlled entirely by the left. That committee is and it goes to show precisely how the left is thinking these days. If they had half a chance they will criminalize thought and speech that they don't like
