The US government are not humanitarians here, they are using this opportunity to weaken the regime with airstrikes and hoping the Iranian people will finish the job on the ground so the US can avoid putting their own boots on the ground. They don't want a quagmire on the ground like Iraq, Afghanistan, or even Libya. Russia has weakened itself in its war in Ukraine, which led to weakened Russian military and financial support in Syria and a chance for rebels to topple Assad. Now the same is happening in Iran. Very big foreign policy wins for the US and its allies over the last couple of years and few if any adversaries in the middle east remaining who can jeopardize western oil security. Because the last time the US overthrew a government in Iran worked out so peachy (until revolutionaries over threw the Shah and installed the current government.)
