-TSS- Posted April 6, 2025 Report Posted April 6, 2025 Usually in a two-party system people start yearning for a change for the sake of change after two terms of one of the two parties. Only if the alternative is for some reason unelectable as was the case in the UK in both 1987 and 1992 the party in power remained in power but as soon as the alternative got its act together there was a massive swing in 1997. Then the pendulum swung back 13 years later. And then it swung back 14 years later. That's the dynamic of a two-party system.. 1 Quote
Goddess Posted April 7, 2025 Report Posted April 7, 2025 (edited) The Liberal government kept prodding at the notion of taxing the home equity of primary residences. They repeatedly paid to study it & brought an "expert" to explain to their cabinet how it would work. They were drooling at the thought of taxing gains on Primary properties. They even had CMHC survey all lending institutions who issued insured mortgages and submit equity reporting (estimates) in 2020, so they could assess the potential haul of tax revenue. Don't think for one minute that they have given up on this potential revenue source. They haven't. Carney was advising the Lib gov't in 2020. Seniors considering a Liberal vote may want to remember this. Which of his promises do you think are going to cost more money than we can afford? He intends to gain money by reducing red tape, improving business which improves taxable revenue both through corporate and personal income tax, getting rid of useless programs that are a waste of money like diversity improvement in Africa, and canceling the corrupt CBC Carney hasn't provided any source of funding for his promises Do you think we can just keep borrowing tens if not hundreds of billion dollars for forever? It looks like people are starting to remember that and not thinking as much about trump. The polls are narrowing across the board and honestly there's a lot of reason to believe the CPC is tied or moving ahead, 12 - 15 thousand at the rally tonight. 12-15 THOUSAND. That will be one of the largest political events in our history. Harper pointed out that he's the only person who's had BOTH candidates work for him and carney is not the man for the job. The momentum feels like it's shifting. Everybody in the media said that canada "dodged a bullet' with trump and now people are worrying less about him. PP's approval is in the positive territory while carney's is falling. And we still have the debates, and carney will be catching it from Jaggers just as hard as he fights to stay relevant. Jaggers knows where his people are going. By the end of week three the tide may well have turned and Carney will be in trouble, then it's the debates. Quote "That which doesn't kill me... Barquentine Posted April 8, 2025 Report Posted April 8, 2025 Ottawa, Ontario. Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement regarding Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney’s appointment to the Bank of England: “In this time of global economic uncertainty, Governor Carney has done an admirable job in fulfilling the Bank of Canada’s mandate and has been a valued partner as the Government has worked to steer Canada away from the worst impacts of the global economic recession. As a result, Canada remains an example to the world with its strong banks, effective regulatory environment and sound economic policy. 1 Quote

TreeBeard Posted April 8, 2025 Author Report Posted April 8, 2025 The latest polls haven’t budged…. Libs still most likely to form government. What can PP do to increase his chances? Bragging about crowd sizes doesn’t seem to be a winning formula. Is that giving Cons, and their supporters, a false sense? Quote

You certainly like living in de-nial And Poilievre is definitely on the winning formula as far as he can be. He's running a good campaign for the most part, I can definitely pick a few details but keeping on message and it's a message that still resonates with Canadians is important. And being seem to be popular by hundreds of thousands of people is valuable and important. So what he can do is stay on message, pressure the hell out of Carney in the debates, and fine tune his performance. That's the only way he's going to fight through the noise that trump is making. Being the actual prime minister at a time of Crisis is obviously a huge massive advantage that carney has and there's no getting around that. But Carney's campaign is not great so all you can do keep on track, keep on topic and fine tune, and it does look like the people are coming around.
