No bragging, no ranting, just getting the job done.

Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg was instrumental to ending this strike, getting dockworkers a 62% raise; they had asked for a 75% raise. The agreement sends workers back to work immediately, but the agreement must still be ratified by the rank and file.

I wonder if this extremely generous settlement is going to spur on more strikes.

SSHHHH!!!

Give them time to invent a bullshit story of how he caused it in the first place.

You mean give your side time to come up with an appropriate lie to explain why they said it was his work when actually it wasn't  :)

Reading the newspaper clippings on it it seems that virtually all of the democrats are claiming credit for it. Including Biden who says it's his victory. But a bunch of democrats of which Pete  was one of many are "credited" as well as biden and a few others. :)

Why would you claim that it was his victory alone as the op suggests? Oh that's right, I forgot the democrats are all about stolen valor :)

You don’t think workers should be paid well?

Robosmith said that it's a 62% raise. Even with record 40 year highs in inflation, doesn't that number seem overly generous even if it's government that is paying?

You have that California mindset. They raised the fast food minimum wage to $20 per hour and the end result is job losses because it's not sustainable.

https://www.hoover.org/research/california-loses-nearly-10000-fast-food-jobs-after-20-minimum-wage-signed-last-fall

If people feel they aren't paid well enough they can get another job. Some are underpaid, and some are overpaid.

Buttsinakeg, so that's where all the butts robo keeps laughing off are ending up.

Seriously, the only reason the Gov capitulated is it's just 30 days to an election. Buttigieg had nothing to do with it.

Yeah, you're LYING. I never said anything about the dockworker's raise.

The gov didn't capitulate, it convinced the owners to settle with a significant raise by NOT invoking Taft-Hartley.

You never said you did. He just asked you a question.

You don't even listen to people anymore you just simply say you're lying even if you don't even know what they're talking about

That's literally what capitulating is

Sorry, my bad. I confused you with Rebound, who did say it was 62%.

I do get you guys confused on here sometimes.

The strike is not over just suspended until Jan 15th.

You're both sort of right.  The strike is over for now and the members do have to ratify the agreement but not everything is resolved and they have to Jan 15 to do so.

The Maritime Alliance increased its offer amid public pressure from the Biden administration to put forward a contract offering higher wages.

The tentative agreement does not resolve differences between the union and shipping companies over the use of automated machinery, sources said. That will be a key focus of negotiations between both sides from now until January 15.

Why would you brag about giving a 62% raise for workers?  I don't know the specifics of their last contract and how long it's been since they had their wages increased, but unless it was like 10 years or something, then a 62% raise is...a lot.

Caving to monopolistic infrastructure union demands is not great politics...usually.

I get that you believe the rich are entitled to pay workers as little as possible, get the government to slash taxes and make obscene amounts of profit and use every dirty trick in the book to keep it that way.

But American workers have the right to join unions. And that’s what the longshoremen have done. They’re allowed to.  Too bad that the rich don’t get to keep every single penny there is. The docks won’t go out of business.

Do you by chance own a small business? And if so, would you give your employees a 62% raise?
