Proves it 19 times out of 20 according to peer reviewed science? Horseshit it does.

Stay ignorant I guess.  If it makes you feel better.

One of the [pieces of] information that we have confirmed now is that a significant number of individuals that are infected actually remain asymptomatic. That may be as many as 25 percent,” Redfield said.

Then a few days later, researchers in Iceland reported that 50 percent of their novel coronavirus cases who tested positive had no symptoms.

I'm well aware of how dangerous asymptomatic people are and I feel a lot better knowing efforts are being made to reduce my chances of coming in contact with them.

Stay the fuck at home thanks.

Not according to experts who say everyone needs to stay the fuck at home.  It's much harder to contain otherwise.

No experts are saying that everyone needs to stay home.  Every country in the world has begun a phased reopening, but with mitigation and distancing practices in place.  It's not possible to keep everyone inside for an extended period of time, for many reasons.  You need to stop paying attention to the panic porn.  Anyways, if you wanna stay inside for the rest of your life, go for it.  I couldn't care less.  I'm going the park this weekend.  Weather's gonna be really nice.

I am sorry Shady but I do not get it. How is someone like you a problem? Nowhere have you advocated runing around touching and kissing people. You maintain your proper distancing, you have never questioned proper hygiene practices or even why they implemented the quarantine. All you have said is there has to be a balance approach  based on common sense.  I do not get how people like you are getting painted as extremist for wanting to go for a walk in a friggin park. What the hell is going on?

I get diseases are contagious we all do...but that message is being hijacked and turned into an extremist message in favour of state control of EVERYTHING WE DO. A collective obsessive compulsive disorder is gripping certain people and those people want the government to be used as an agent to impose their OCD on us all. Yes wash your hands but if you want to wash your hands every 5 seconds and swamp your house in toxic chemicals worrying over airborne germs you are going to get sick anyways and instead of Covid 19 you can die from toxic chemical exposures. Knock yourself out.

Like you said Shady, some people want to wear a rubber twenty four hours a day. Its their business. Eventually they will find their are other side effects to the ones they think they are preventing which will be more problematic.

I get you.

That's right. We're in complete agreement here.

The agreement falls apart here when you make it a joke, insist on being a sneering covidiot about it and your concern for vulnerable populations appears as phony as a $3 twoony.

Shady's economic panic porn and Rue's totalitarian paranoia porn is plenty enough reason to keep you two strapped down behind a locked door.

Talk about OCD messaging.

Sorry, but I've consistently stated that high risk people should be protected.  But that society should open up practicing mitigation and distancing.  I've said that over and over and over.  But people refuse to hear it.

People refuse to believe it because of the shitty condescending attitude you consistently bring to it. You've never suggested how you'd provide for and maintain that protection because you or people like you are also consistently pissing, moaning, kicking and screaming about who pays for it.

Blood on the hands of the locdown nuts

You're suggesting indigenous people are on your side?  They're taken locally as the main reason my region remains locked down and the province appears to be taking their vulnerability very seriously in their considerations for opening up.  I suspect if BC opens up the border to the US that 1st Nations will blockade the road leading to my region.

That seems to be the plan, so why so much complaining still?

I do believe  Dialamah you refer to this:

https://toronto.ctvnews.ca/ontario-begins-working-on-reopening-plan-as-modelling-data-suggests-cases-have-peaked-1.4904027

I do also believe a good reason for delay will be to start with the wide range of legal issues that have to be dealt with which will make return not so easy:

https://www.mccarthy.ca/en/insights/blogs/canadian-employer-advisor/covid-19-update-moving-forward-considerations-re-opening-physical-workplaces

https://www.osler.com/en/resources/regulations/2020/the-employer-s-covid-19-return-to-the-workplace-playbook

Here is another summary of why the return will be slow:

  • 2 weeks later...

I don't usually rage against the media but the narrative of only focusing on new cases and testing is absolutely insane.

The metric should be on hospitalizations and deaths.

When 2/3 of all cases are now resolved it's tough to consider a daily case count of 400-500 as exponential. Yet Hospitalizations and deaths are creeping down.

The media also points out that the testing capacity is 20,000 and they often only test around 10,000 or so each day. Well who are they testing?

DoFo had to say yesterday that anyone can just go to a testing facility and get tested for Shits and Giggles. I'd consider it if the test wasn't a swab to the brain.

I suspect there are a large number of test kits that were purchased expecting an avalanche of cases, but that didn't happen and now they are unused. It is hard to maintain the "Shelter in place" narrative when there are so few cases. The only cases in eastern ON were all mild and people were told to stay at home. There were no cases interred in the Covid Wing throughout. None, zero, zilch. A few people were brought in, found to be false cases and sent home within 2-3 days.

I personally do not know anyone who got the virus, let alone who died.

We got a worker coming in here next week from Toronto. He's been asked to self-quarantine for 14 days before returning to work. I told him as of yesterday he could go and get a test, and if it passes he can come to work now. He declined, says he'd rather wait. It's not because he's lazy and wants the time off.

It may come as a surprise, but other kinds of tests need to be done as well.  100% of testing can’t be all covid.  Interesting fact.  Almost 80% of Ontario’s covid deaths are from long term care facilities.  Once again illustrating that covid is just not that dangerous to the general public.  #Science

Cite other tests that can't be done.

People that are 60+ or 80+ aren't members of the general public?

I think you continue to ignore that mitigation measures have kept the rates/deaths down. Had the mitigations measures not been taken the death rates to the "general public" likely would have been higher. With LTC homes #StayHome literally meant being where you were the least safe.

Regardless, I agree that getting COVID isn't something most people are afraid of personally. What I'm afraid of is being a carrier to at risk people I do interact with. Or people at risk that people I interact with interact with.

Guest ProudConservative

We are definetly entering "The Desease is worse than the cure" territory. Doug is rich, and doesn't know what it's like for employees and businesses tinkering on the edge.

Open the fucking economy already before we end up becoming the next Venezuela.

Right now as it sits, for every dead Canadian, there is at least 500 Canadians who have lost their jobs. What precentage of those people will end up commiting suicide? What precentage of those people, will spend the next 10 to 15 years paying off their business debts? What precentage of those people will end up in divorce, because they can't pay their bills?

How many decades will it take Municiple, Provincial, and Federal governments to pay off this debt? How on earth are we going to be able to afford health care, when we've decimated the tax base?

Why are you citing April job numbers when many of those businesses have already been allowed to open.

Yesterday they announced that a bunch of medical businesses will be allowed to open, Chiropractors, Dentists, Physiotherapists etc.

Really the only people who are sitting at home are people who do job involving large crowds gathering.

This is definitely a time of economic hardship. But only after around 10 years of growth.

Exactly.  And the vast majority of covid deaths are in long term care facilities.  We treated this virus like it was the plague.  Like if anyone gets it there’s a good chance they’ll die.  When that’s the exact opposite of the truth.  It’s the exact opposite of the science.  But policy is being made based on emotions, feelings, and panic.  With little regard for actual facts.  So we get a one size fits all solution, which doesn’t make any sense, and only causes more problems, but on a scale a thousand times bigger than the virus itself.

The people who actually focused on Science knew the threat it posed.

DoFo is making his policy decisions based public health advice and not fear and emotions.

It's so convenient that you can play the result that the Social Distancing actually did work and accuse everyone of being weak because it worked.
