ICE Finally Fires Back!
John Stone replied to Nationalist's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Tis the winter of discontent - followed by the Spring and then Summer .......... Fall? Cancel the Midterms ...........an election in this heated environment might result in extreme civil unrest. spit balling - imagine if the political Right retained a majority - an even larger majority? OMG! -
FWIW………. Trump is not the first to show an interest in Greenland 1867 – SecState Seward raised the idea of annexing Greenland AND Iceland – 2fer – in for a penny in for a pound? 1910 – US ambassador to Denmark, Egans, made the Danes an offer to exchange Greenland in return for the Dutch Antilles and the Philippine island of Mindanao 1946 – SecState Byrnes made an offer to buy Greenland for 100 mil. 2019 – Trump’s offer is basically, Plata o Plomo Hindsight is 20/20 ......... the U.S. should have purchased Rupert's Land from the Brits before Canada became a country - opportunity missed.

Denying Israel's legitimacy is to flog a dead horse. Israel was formally established on May 14, 1948, with the Declaration of Independence. It was recognized as a sovereign state by the United States on the same day and by the Soviet Union no less, three days later. The United Nations admitted Israel as a full member state on May 11, 1949.

...... indeed. However, not sure what good she could possibly do............ as advisor? A post from the U.S. president underscored their past tussling over trade and other issues. In the message, Trump continued his running troll of Canada, likening it to an American state, then adding a personalized insult of a former interlocutor who once frustrated him. (Freeland)

PQ First Mandate -Referendum
John Stone replied to August1991's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
.......... hmmmmm........ could Trump be convinced to just annex Quebec? -
........... this too will pass ........... is Mexico still whining about the annexation of Texas? No!

............. Canada will likely be overtaken by global events long before that happens. Impossible geography to defend considering economics and population. Unfathomable why over the decades Canada didn't lean into it's own defense by honestly contributing to the bargain ($$) that was NATO. I say 'was' due to the fact that if Greenland is conceded, NATO is finished.

POLITICAL PREDICTIONS FOR 2026
John Stone replied to Barquentine's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
............. I'd say Alberta has something that Venezuela will never have .......... political stability............. years away (if ever) of demonstrating it. What industry (any) would invest in a country with such an unproven political track record. Job 1 for Venezuela is ridding itself of the corruption that has put it in the position it finds itself ......... the problem of course is corruption is likely the only enticement for those countries, companies willing TO investment. -

Ever notice how countries with no 'might' use the phrase, 'might ain't right' more regularly? The ability to project power has always determined the way of the World in the sense of literally creating countries, redrawn borders, subdued rebellions and strengthened geo-political alliances. Not much has been heard of the U.N. - suppose the GA has been bought off. The proof of my comments will be confirmed when Trump wins the Nobel ............ and he will. If u don't have power then u better have allies.

We seem to be having a good discussion. However, impeachment is NOT the means to prosecute a president, rather it is a process that allows Congress to bring charges against a president for serious misconduct, which can include treason, bribery or my fav phrase, high crimes and misdemeanors - akin to a grand jury indicting a ham sandwich. It's a political, one of several, that can be used to remove a president from office. SCOTUS' ruling had nothing to do with that. I'll paraphrase - once Congress has taken his nutz - the legal system is free to prosecute. Never happen of course. (impeachment & removal)

haha..............so you're saying getting a Venezuelan dirt bag out of power thru the use of derring-do didn't command and continues to command the news cycle? The distraction used by the Argentinians had the population out in the streets displaying manic patriotism. Political strategy crosses borders, culture and language Putin's play in the Donets Basin is a replay of something that happened 70+ years ago - Sudetenland? ...... that said it hasn't worked out the same way it did for Schicklgruber tho.

............I would draw your attention to the Falklands War At the time of the non-declared war, Argentina had been experiencing economic stagnation and civil unrest had the people out in the streets demonstrating against the ruling military junta that had been governing the country for some time. By opting for military action, the Galtieri government hoped to mobilise the patriotic feelings of Argentines towards the islands (Falklands, aka Malvinas) and thereby divert public attention from chronic domestic economic problems and the ongoing human rights violations carried out by the junta. (distraction?) It almost worked …………….. but Thatcher saddled up the RN and retook the islands – several ships were sunk and the World was introduced to a revolutionary ship killing missile (Exocet) The consequence was that the people forced out the ruling junta............ Argentina had their a$$$ handed to them. The point of all this was the strategy used - it was unsuccessful, but it was arguably the correct strategy to remain in power - problem was the Brits called the bluff............ and then won. As you can imagine, Thatcher's (aka Iron Lady) popularity skyrocketed. The oil thing is a coincidental bonus ................ might pay off ......... the real win is global image ..... global intimidation............ and possibly pride in Nation - American patriotism?

Exactly, impeachment is a process to remove a sitting president............ we know that it is a political process But what is the process to indict a President who is out of office? It is as you say .............but SCOTUS has provided immunity to acts committed while in office, acting in the capacity of POTUS. Can a President be indicted for (example) war crimes, on his own turf, for acts he ordered while in office? SCOTUS decision leans towards, no. Barring a WWII era Nuremberg the idea is absurd (losing a war notwithstanding). Interesting times ahead ..........

................ agree ...... but it has introduced a malaise. SCOTUS ruling on presidential immunity really does have (could have) significant implications for the so-called, legal landscape surrounding the presidency. The ruling establishes a precedent for the xtent of immunity that former presidents can claim for their official act. No question this ruling could influence future legal challenges and prosecutions that involve former presidents. Impeachment and prosecution are actions conducted while in office - the Segway for removal - SCOTUS ruling deals with post-presidency. it does provide immunity from prosecution for acts conducted while in office and that goes for the black or white cat.
