  1. They say the proof of the cooking is in the eating ............. well '26 will be the proof of the cooking or not. Carney has something that Poilievre does not - international stature. Canada has been forced to recognize the fact that they can't rely in the future on their historical economic benefactor - the U.S. - Canada MUST diversify its international markets and international recognition helps in that a great deal. Common sense has prevailed a great deal with the Left - Trudeau / Singh are history and so are a lot of the Lefts planks - specifically environmental and social issues - basically Carney has acknowledged they were the stuff of idealists. The political picture federally could change very quickly - Poilievre is facing a leadership revue - not just a matter of leading the party into the next election - but leading the party for the decade- another defection now would seal his fate. Bringing down the government and forcing an election would likely result in a Liberal majority. The truth is that while the electorate is warm to Conservative policy - they're generally cold to Poilievre - he is an excellent hack but he is increasingly a day late and a dollar short on the 'sell'. The upcoming leadership review might be his swan song. The next year will be unity or bust for Canada - (2) separatists vote of some description will likely be on the docket. Poilievre based his campaign on Trudeau ........... that well dried up!
  2. ............. arguably the PRC wouldn't be on the verge of becoming the largest global economy if they had tolerated democracy or freedom of religion in practice. Imagine democracy with a population of 1500 million citizens......... use Congress as an example. I mean, who really wants a democracy that resembles India - 6 national parties, 58 state parties and 2500 unrecognized parties. Suppose the real divisions are along religious grounds tho. Imagine true freedom of religion with 1500 million citizens being influenced by an imaginary figure? Give them PRC bast'ds credit on their accomplishments ........ lets face it, ya can't eat ideology ........even less if it is corrupt to the degree that the U.S. politic (supposedly) constantly commits..
  3. ........... can't wait to see the Left's reaction after Trump takes over the Fed......... Trump is within a pecker-length of getting a majority on the board and his new governor appointment is just around the corner. Standby ... Double double toil and trouble; Fire burn and cauldron bubble. / Shakespeare MacBeth. ......................... it is about to get really interesting............. can't wait.
  4. Singling out a cultural group for recognition on a war-memorial is a very cheap political attempt at social grooming..........respect is demanded for ALL in a like manner. This ..................... .............. OMG ........ and the Left wonder why they are in such a sad state.???
  5. ha ha ........... please don't be offended when I say you'd make a lousy soldier - you don't seem to 'stand' for anything substantive. What would you defend? I too wish the World was the bliss that you opine about ............ but we know (yourself included) that it is not. So what do you do when someone comes up and punches you in the throat - call a cop? Figuratively that is why you have a military and people that stand the watch and make ur environment secure. Be grateful ........... but above all, be realistic.
  6. Alex Schadenberg is one of the world’s premier opponents of euthanasia and assisted suicide. He is the co-founder and executive director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, founded in 1998 and based in the Canadian Province of Ontario. Schadenberg said he has long wondered what role, if any, MAiD’s potential cost savings played in its introduction and rapid expansion in Canada. “Remember, dead people don’t cost money,” he said. “Dead people don’t need treatment.” / common dogfk, Bucky Schadenberg said he thinks no one in Canada would be “so crass” as to actually say that they support MAiD because it saves money. “But there is a reality at the same time that it does save a lot of money, and a lot of people know that it saves money,” he said. “Just because they won’t say it, doesn’t mean it’s not true.” In fact, the federal government’s Office of the Parliamentary Budget Officer said in a report made public in October 2020 that its calculations showed that, throughout the country, MAiD would save the health-care system $86.9 million in 2021.
  7. .............. damn straight - together in life and (recognized) together in death................ rumor is the unknown soldier was black - pass it on.
  8. ........... any political hack worth their salt, and rhetoric to the contrary, just wants this story to disappear. It is a loose cannon that potentially could damage either political party. Of course those in exposed political positions for reelection are more vociferous in their demands for justice. And, Jeremy committed suicide, a guy with all the aces committed suicide................. give me a break.
  9. ................ not to mention Manifest Destiny re: Canada and uber extension, Greenland
  10. CBC is akin to Canada Post ............. money loser but essential to a degree. Radio Canada is global ................ soft propaganda ......... def worth the squeeze.
  11. The U.S. primary concern is the defense of NA - and not simply in terms of security. What concessions (defense or otherwise) will need to be made to further this objective. Anyone heard of Argentia? DEW line, NORAD ............................... Golden Dome?
  12. Netanyahu was the perfect storm at this time of Israel's history. No doubt he'll be compared favorably with the likes of Churchill, Harris' and Truman. The guy might be hated by some but he is definitely respected by those who matter and feared.
  13. I think Snowden exposed the facade of cyber security. There is no security when a State is involved.
  14. ............. I'd just add that the consequence of a Ukraine collapse might have everything to do with Canada - particularly Northern sovereignty. At one time Canada's association with big brother USA gave it an international voice ........ the USA was our Aegis. I can imagine Europeans saying, 'Europe has nothing to do with Canada"......... and being applauded .........even encouraged. ............ ooops, forgot ............. the United Nations support - that august body.
  15. Really don't think any U.S. citizen living in, "Giveafk" USA, even knows what the Kennedy Center is, where it is or what importance it could possibly have in their lives.
  16. ........ Nuance, perhaps ................ but not the politics. This is not nuance - if anything, it is Realpolitik. On 4 March 1870 Scott was marched out of Fort Garry's east gate and was executed on the wall by the provisional government of the Red River Settlement led by Louis Riel. Somewhat akin to the Quebec, October Crisis Paul Rose (1943 2013) was a Quebec nationalist, a convicted murderer and terrorist known for his role in the October Crisis. Rose was convicted of the kidnapping and murder by strangulation of Quebec Deputy Premier, Pierre Laporte in 1970. A Quebec government commission later determined in 1980 that Rose was not present when Laporte was killed, despite a recorded confession. He was released on parole in 1982. Rose / "I regret nothing: 1970, the abductions, the prison, the suffering, nothing. I did what I had to do. Placed before the same circumstances today, I would do exactly the same thing. I will never deny what I did and what happened. It was not a youthful indiscretion." A motion was tabled in the Quebec provincial legislature to honour his death.
  17. Many still expect it to be used as a defense .....should be interesting.
  18. My fav has to be the vilification of the guy that consolidated the country - Sir John A MacDonald. ........... while at the same time applauding a dangerous religious fanatic, felon, and rebel opposed to the Canadian nation.
  19. I really don't think Israel is finished with Gaza............ any sustained pressure, if it is real ............. would be a negotiating tactic. An empty stomach is likely the most effective lever you can employ........... more broad effect. The Gaza peace plan calls for an immediate ceasefire , the return of all hostages (dead or alive) , prisoner exchanges, the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip , the deployment of the International Stabilization Force, transitional governance under international supervision. Senior Hamas officials have said that Hamas rejected proposed terms of demilitarization. Upon revealing the peace proposal, Trump gave Hamas a deadline of October 5, 2025 to accept. oh, yeah ...........Israel isn't done with Gaza.......... or Iran for that matter.
  20. ............ this dirtbags defense strategy is to take advantage of Presidential clemency. to wit.... On January 20, 2025, during the first day of his 2nd term, United States president Donald Trump granted blanket clemency to all people, nearly 1,600, convicted of or awaiting trial or sentencing for offenses related to the Jan 6th United States Capitol attack that occurred near the end of his first presidential term. Most of them received full pardons, while the sentences of 14 members of the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys were commuted. More than 600 rioters had been convicted of or pleaded guilty to assault of or obstructing law enforcement officers and 170 of using a deadly weapon.
  21. .... a move like this is def political - an attempt to strengthen National unity - likely there was indications that there were increasing French / English tensions at the time. ......... Likely, the strategy was a failure - the October Crisis, War Measures Act, Rene Levesque, Official Languages act and and on .........has fomented division but the worse was yet to come. Tensions between the two founding culture identities had existed for hundreds of years but during this period Quebec discovered or was empowered with real political power in the form of Separatist political parties in Quebec and in Ottawa - the Sword of Damocles hanging over any Prime Minister. Is it absurd to believe that in a minority government a Separatist Party might get the deciding vote on NATIONAL policy. OMG - belies belief! Repatriating the BNA Act 1982) though was the nail that will likely destroy the country - the NWC was given with the naive understanding that Quebec would be the only Province to use it - the enticement to sign on to the repatriation. The new flag did not unify Kanada - yes, people fly it - just like they would have flown the Red Ensign. Are 8-Bells tolling for a Nation's survival? Now, if Canada was serious - it might seriously consider becoming a Republic - but even that would NOT appease.
  22. Spoken communication is the very essence of Leadership ......... but there is far more that defines a leader. Joe Biden was President ............ but he was not a leader ........... people perceived him (perception is reality) to be a poor communicator. re: "Secondly, every public facing services role is a political decision" Indeed - but idealistic leaders that attempt to move accepted societal norms too quickly risk blowback - precisely the reason Trump was elected in '24.
  23. The necessity can be debated, pro/con................ likely the venue is needed. The political is in the funding ......... quid-pro-quo? Private funds from patriots were sought to fund the $200 million project. So-called funders include Apple, Amazon, Google, Meta and Lockheed Martin. A fitting legacy for a grateful nation.
  24. Have the lights been turned off in the U.N. building yet?
