  1. might not be right but that is the way it was ............. and go'n that way again. Devil take the hindmost, baby
  2. Texas might be an example - but the list is long. The annexation of Texas (1845) was legally contentious - partisan politics as always - but it was ultimately recognized as legal by the U.S. Gov. The 'Zimmerman Telegram' greatly influenced the U.S. to enter WWI. Sort of a Sudetenland strategy - not sure the slaves saw the new landlord as a salvation tho.
  3. ................... are u referring to Kanada?
  4. Trump's idea regarding Gaza becoming the Pearl of the Caribbean might be dreaming in technicolor, but let us not throw the baby out with the bath water - an encore of Nakba is another way to skin the cat.
  5. ............ a slippery slope for sure The United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities recently issued, "Canada must repeal medical assistance on dying for individuals without terminal illnesses". Reckless expansions of MAiD beyond imminent death not only weakens our social safety net but also imperils the very dignity and human rights Canada proclaims to protect. No love for the UN, but I suppose even a blind pig like the U.N. can find a truffle occasionally. Oh, Kanada!
  6. Northern Ireland was open to allied shipping, but your criticism is well taken. I don't think it is unreasonable for the Irish to hope for a United Ireland? On the other hand historically, thousands of Irish have fought in the British military. Suppose the United States should be grateful for the Irish Famine - significantly increased the pop. of the Continent - swelled the ranks of the Union army as well.
  7. Would you want the FCC on your A$$$$$$$$ if it wielded a degree of power over your bottom line?
  8. Truly a decision made in ignorance re: modern Naval warfare - rhetoric. The funding for this behemoth could be used far more strategically.
  9. noted! However, I'd say that the attraction of something like MAID is inversely proportional to physical pain and diagnosis. Walk a mile in someone's shoes - some would likely be screaming for mercy.
  10. Of course, the United States has a long tradition of providing refuge, and has welcomed millions of refugees and asylum seekers fleeing their countries. Put that aside for a moment. However, at a time of historical Global unrest involving mass displacements around the world – unprecedented numbers – and new flows in the Western hemisphere, the U.S. humanitarian protections system is under great strain – not even going to quote the numbers but they would shock ya. Backlogs re: asylum screening is decades behind. Congress absolutely should debate statutory changes to asylum law and the pressure to adapt to this new era of migration will continue to grow ……. Globally. Australia …. asylum seekers in Australia have specific legal rights and protections under international and domestic law, but their status differs from that of recognized refuges. Belgium, BRUSSELS - officials on Monday were finalizing a major overhaul of its migration system, including streamlined deportations and increased detentions, after years of fierce debate on the issue. Great Britain – Prime Minister Keir Starmer is now pledging to ‘take back control of our borders”, promising tighter rules to bring the numbers down ‘significantly” Canada - Bill C-12, or Strengthening Canada’s Immigration System and Borders Act, includes many changes around border security along with new ineligibility rules for refugee claimants. When Canada signed the Safe Third Country Agreement (STCA) with the United States in 2004, it was widely viewed as a reasonable policy. The agreement, still in force today, requires refugee claimants to seek asylum in the first “safe” country they arrive in—typically the United States - the good intentions of those advocating to repeal the STCA in Canadian courts on the grounds that the U.S. no longer meets the legal threshold of a “safe” country could lead to Canada being overwhelmed by demands it is ill-prepared to meet. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is quoted as saying his government "made some mistakes" on immigration while outlining the country's plans to reduce the number of immigrants arriving under its permanent residency program over the next three years - what a complete maroon - idealist fool.
  11. As the North West Passage becomes more navigable the more the desire will become to own it.
  12. I believe ur referring to the Partition Plan (1947) - two independent States - Jewish and Arab. The Arabs wrote a cheque they couldn't cash - the result was the first Arab-Israeli war - Israeli declared independence 1949. Over the decades the Arabs continued to write cheques they couldn't cash. Daresay this latest dustup was good for recruiting tho. So be it - next time the Jews will be prepared.
  13. Ever wonder why the majority of the World's Navy's aren't designed with stealth so much in mind? It's because they want a hull that looks impressive in a foreign port. A stealth design is arguably the ugliest hull you can imagine ........... intimidation factor = zero. ................ akin to a Tesla ............ also ugly!!
  14. Alaska, not including the panhandle, went for 10 mil back in 1867 - Putin is rumored to be making plans.
  15. Member states are free to decide where they buy and what they buy - that's the problem they haven't been doing either.
  16. Most indigenous would likely strongly support DRIPA - it creates a parallel universe re: property rights. I don't blame them - it's a gift from heaven.
  17. RE: to apply for asylum I don't blame any of them for taking advantage of a law so asinine it beggars belief. Ditto so-called, Birthright Citizenship. Truly - am I correct?
  18. The USN is considered the most lethal fighting force in the World - right now! To maintain that respect the hulls and weapons system need to be routinely replaced - it never ends -it's happening now. The Trump Class has a weapon suite that on paper, is very impressive and def cutting edge technology........... so cutting edge that some of it is still R&D.............. doable for sure, but unproven. The rail-gun intrigues me .......... ditto the laser, anti-missile / drone defensive system - ditto the soft kill capability. Radars are absolutely cutting edge phased array systems. Nuc- capable cruise missiles give it reach. The real choke point is getting it built - American shipyards don't have the capability - this thing is huge, revolutionary and would require re-tooling existing shipyards - which are chock-o-block and behind deliveries but also lacking a work force in terms of numbers. Not an insurmountable problem - international shipyards could take up the slack. A leading-tier Nation, that needs global reach, needs number of hulls - well equipped, trained crews, deployable. I have my doubts we'll ever see any of these ships - they don't make any sense, foreign harbor queen display notwithstanding.
  19. I really don't think Trump has much respect for NATO. Member states only have themselves to blame for his opinion - what really galls them (member states) is that he is correct in his criticism.
  20. ............really don't think any country 'controls' the U.N. - the Security Council members with their veto do that. As far as the General Assembly goes (?) - meh! The General Assembly passes resolutions - it is a debating society - makes the rest of the World think they really matter - the debates give the Assembly a sense of purpose. ............ many believe that becoming a non-permanent member of the Security Council was a sexual indulgence for Justine - likely became tumescent at the thought. Despite attempting to buy a seat, his wet dream went unfulfilled. As far as Gaza goes (?) - Hamas sowed the wind and reaped the whirlwind, and then some. Israel has no regrets - and deep down the free World applauds their actions. Ask yourself, what was Israel's demands?
  21. Yep, Greenland could be very geo-strategic in terms of Asia - Europe (and reverse) commerce - Panama canal has the same argument. As you mentioned, Greenland is a treasure trove of rare earth. The U.S. is an interesting study of geo-conquest, economic negotiation re: territorial gain. Alaska - including panhandle, Oregon territory, Mexican-American War, Louisiana Purchase, Spanish-American War. Is it possible for the U.S. to annex Greenland? Yes.
  22. When the B.C. government adopted (DRIPA) into law in 2019, it went out of its way to say, repeatedly and explicitly, that it should not be used by a future court one day to strike down other provincial laws. At that time there was much confusion on the issue. New Democrats admitted they would not be able to control what judges might do when a First Nation used DRIPA as a tool to challenge other laws in court. Earlier this month, the BC Court of Appeal last week struck down the Mineral Tenures Act, because it said a lack of consultation and accommodation with First Nations over a new online mineral claims-staking system violated DRIPA. New Democrats hailed themselves as “the leader in the world” on Indigenous rights when they ( BC NDP government) passed the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) in 2019. OMG! There was also debate over whether DRIPA would impact private property rights—perhaps the hottest topic of 2025 after the courts ruled Aboriginal title sits above private property rights in the Cowichan Nation’s victory over lands in Richmond Note: Aboriginal title sits (unceded land) ABOVE private property rights – 95 percent of B.C. is crown land, ie – unceded.
  23. 33 KT 'battleship' is NOT the future. Basically a larger target. In any case - battleships are def very 'old school' in Naval warfare. Speed, maneuverability and low RCS is the way to survive at sea.
  24. Really just a business decision - go along to get along? Although the FCC does not determine business mergers, it plays a role in the regulatory oversight of merger and acquisitions involving companies that hold FCC licenses, ie. broadcast stations? CBS consists of 14+ owned and operated stations and over 200 affiliates nationally. These stations are p/o CBS, 200 affiliates across the United States. Earlier this year U.S. federal regulators approved Paramount's 8 billion $$$ merger with Skydance, clearing the way to close the merger. Paramount is a media and entertainment company that owns CBS. ........... chair of the FCC. - Brendan Carr - appointed Jan 2025.
  25. Jesus? - very little .............Xmas count? I think I mentioned that I've witnessed faith being a positive in times of extreme grief ............. on a large scale. Jesus, Priests, Ministers .......... or akin are usually present.
