  1. Mississippi... state with the lowest GDP per capita (35,555) and the lowest real personal income. It is no wonder that the voters have few options. Poverty and dwindling population is going to result in not so hotly contested matchups.
  2. the stock market is not the best metric to use for economic performance. Real GDP per capita, PPE, and real personal income tell a broader story than the stock market. A relatively small percentage of the population invests in the stock market or is directly affected by daily changes in the stock market. Everybody is affected by PPE and real personal income.
  3. The OP is a bit.. .how would you say it.. intense. Those types burn out, take a break, and then come back. Their ego will not let them surrender.
  4. Welcome to the real world... where negativity gets you attention and votes more than policy changes, solid ideas, and such.
  5. I have a subscription to the NYT but do not rely on it for world news. I read the other sections.. business, book review, arts, weekend, etc. The world news section (front page) is a bit too much of a broken record. A lot of articles that say the same thing.
  6. Today is Nov. 17.. I will bet that he comes back by Dec. 31. Do live in Nevada and we like to bet. Not sure what to bet but still.. that is my guess.
  7. when looking at the state of an economy.. you have to look at more than one measurement. Typically, the best metrics are real disposable income, real gdp in a given area, jobs number as measured by QCEW (not CES which is most people use), and then PPE (inflation measure)
  8. First, in all wars terrible things happen. This one is not unique. Second, we are all watching this from the sidelines. No one on this forum is on the frontlines and has "boots-on-the-ground" information. Therefore.. all your information is second hand and demands that you believe it. Third.. this will not be the last time that we see this. Months or years down the road, they will be back at it. Lather, rinse, repeat.
  9. In daily life, I do not care in the least. In sports, that changes. Biological males with years of testosterone exposure have a distinct advantage in terms of upper body strength and speed. In a contact sport like boxing.. this equates to a sizeable advantage for which training, diet, and know-how can't overcome.
  10. Forgot to add this in.. they come back with a new username. Same person but different user account. Sometimes, they are clever enough to change up their style but not usually. Everyone has their unique idiosyncratic elements that they put in their posts.
  11. Rachel Maddow... just another mouthpiece that is very skilled in the arts of hyperbole and exaggeration. Only watched her show once (sometime in 2016 before Trump was elected) and it was basically Chicken Little.
  12. They always come back. Been doing the internet chat forum gig for about 16 years and anytime that someone announces their exit.. they come back. Typically, it only lasts for a month or so.
  13. the "content" that I was referring to was the opinions of the various posters. If I want news.. this is not where I go. Before you blast away.. I do not watch cable news of any kind at any time. I thought that it was just them promising too much and not delivering. Sadly, it goes beyond that. I work with them directly at times and it is always amazing how different they are in person versus in front of the camera.
  14. its not quite that cut and dry. Typically those who move from CA, OR, and WA are the middle aged AND middle income. There reason (at least according to survey data) is high cost of living not politics. They could handle the liberal politics if the cost of housing, vehicle registration, and owning a small business were less.
  15. This is not even close to what R10 and I were discussing. Wow...
  16. I work for a state government so I know about not talking politics. However, my working for government has done little except make my universal dislike for politics and politicians more ingrained. It would amaze you how incredibly phony they (both R and D) are.
  17. why do you need a safe space? I am the same person in real life that I am online. I could get outed and have nothing to hide. I use the ignore feature because I know that some on here have nothing to say. Its like trying a food, finding it to be nasty, bitter, etc. and deciding to not try it again. To keep consuming it and getting nothing out of it.. that sounds like a "you" problem
  18. So if nothing is relevant.. why bother to read anyone's post. So having the ignore is somewhat pointless. Choosing to ignore one irrelevant post is just as valuable to one's life as choosing to read (and therefore not ignore) an irrelevant post.
  19. Good question. I mainly come here as a way to spend dead time. A lot of what I do is waiting on someone to get their data ready and then I run a computer script and make it into something more palatable.
  20. So if nothing in a political message board is meaningful content.. that includes your content. Interesting...
  21. If you truly study the policies of some of the most heinous dictators in Europe recently; Ceaucescu (Romania), Hoxha (Albania), Zhivkov (Bulgaria), Franco (Spain) and Tito (Yugoslavia), you will notice that they were more power hungry than communist. They ruled with an iron fist and did not truly care about the lower income types.. hence the lack of true income redistribution. Yes, they were part of the "Communist party" in their respective nations but they did not follow the Marx handbook even a little bit
  22. This comes with the assumption that everything that you say is golden and untouchable. I do not have such narcissism. My posts are not always the sole source of information out there. Ignore just lets you skip to the meaningful content. Not all content is good. When I go to a bookstore.. quite a few books are not looked at.
  23. this is a nonstory. Much ado about nothing.
  24. words are subjective. The same set of words can be read by 10 different people and you can get 10 different interpretations of what they read.
  25. Having conversed with this poster on other forums.. he knows what he is getting himself into. Political chat forums have a certain type of person that frequents them. If he finds it so abhorrent... why start posting in the first place?
