  1. Why are you tagging me in this?
  2. My belief is that crime is tied to poverty or the prospect of becoming poor. About this song... yawn. However, the artist is laughing so hard he may have wet himself a few times.
  3. I laugh at your thinking that folks are morally superior solely based on living in a town of less than 2,000. In your utopia, they are good people while they live in Challis, Idaho (small town) and then they turn to sh_T once they move to Chicago. And then when they go back home.. they go back to being morally superior.... its quite comical.
  4. why do small towns not have riots? Because a riot of 22 people will have zero impact on anybody or anything. Also, in a small town.. folks know each other and so if John Doe goes out marching.. everybody in small town X knows that he did.. unlike the big city where 99.99999% of the city has no knowledge of you
  5. Another reason that I have such disdain for politics and especially politicos is the binary thinking. If one is not 100% in line with their views then there is only one conclusion.. you must be the enemy and therefore be in 100% support of ALL things that I oppose. If i say that I do not like the film in the OP then I must be in 100% support of human/child trafficking. This low-IQ mentality is the MO of most politicos hence they come here because in person they would get laughed off.
  6. When and if the OP realizes that you can't completely eradicate drugs from a society.. maybe he will start being more realistic. It is not possible to 100% remove drugs from a developed society where folks have discretionary income.
  7. heads up.. i do not own a single gun. Might in the future but none yet. If my neighbors own one or 1.178... I do not care. I have no reason to think that after 14 years.. they will turn violent against me when the previous 14 * 365 days have been remarkably boring.
  8. Gun ownership is not like car ownership where you subtract the past and add the new. Cars after a while are simply too pricey to repair. The number of guns legally or illegally purchased (as of yet) is a steadily increasing number. So there we have the first number... always positive. Now we need the second number, gun deaths, to be positive. As population goes up, so does the number of murders.. most of which are done by way of guns. Therefore, even if murders do not increase in a given year.. the number of gun deaths will remain steady or be positive. Why does someone actually kill someone with a gun? While I have not done it myself.. my theory is that they do not it solely because they have access to one (either in person or can go buy it). Maybe they have poor impulse control, are sociopathic, too self absorbed to think that they can't ever be wrong, etc. If we were going to analyze this from a statistical viewpoint.. we need to bring in more variables and maybe try flipping the equation.. putting gun ownership as the dependent variable or y. If you do not know.. most models are set up as such Y (dependent variable or result) = B (statistical constant or lowest point possible) + ax (x being the variable and a being the weight) + bz + ...
  9. On this topic, we had a drag queen story hour and some very bored individual insisted on being in the room. He spouted off a bunch of inane stuff about the Constitution. And then when someone read him the revised statutes stating that a public library can restrict access to an event.. he stuttered and then went into meltdown. So much for being morally superior or anything like that. The rule which was posted was that only children who had an adult next to them could enter the room. Those rules are valid according to state statute which supposedly is legit until it is not..
  10. Correlation is basically if one number goes up.. does the other. Number of guns owned/purchased is up. Why? You do not exactly throw it away like you do an empty bag of chips and go to the gas station and get a new one. Therefore the top number is always on the increase. Second, if you look at crime statistics.. the percentage of those where a gun is the method used is always the highest. Easiest, most direct, and least personal.. It takes a whole new level of rage, personal enmity, sociopathy to stab someone 12 to 15 times therefore having to be upclose than to simply pull a trigger from 6 to 15 feet away. the point is that basing one's argument on this correlation shows a short sighted view of statistics and gun deaths.
  11. Correlation is not causality.... the correlation between number of guns and number of deaths is always going to be positive. It is simple math. The causality is not quite so easy to parse out in statistics.
  12. People parading around in the nude is the relatively rare exception and not the norm. However, with politicos.. as soon as one of these relatively rare occurrences happens.. it is a sure sign of things to come. Naked guy at a gay parade in Seattle is surely going to filter down to Grand Junction, CO in a few days. By the end of the week.. naked guys will be in every town or city.. no one is safe.
  13. Everyone cherry picks... it is part of being human. Take the positives that you can or overestimate the negatives. That being said... housing is usually the one aspect of any cost of living metric that has the greatest affect numerically. Why? not that complicated. Housing is not made up of one single item. It is the amalgamation of labor, products, and financing. Add in to that.. we have zoning laws and seemingly random settlement patterns that affect the price in some locales.
  14. It is only a song.. Relax and take a deep breath. Small towns have their pluses and minuses. Spent summers in a very remote place with a small town of about 2,800 being the closest vestige of civilization. People were not perfect.. nope. Lots of drunken stupidity, beating their wives, spending money on dumb stuff, doing drugs (more than I wanted to admit), and gasp.... shoplifting.
  15. For example.. soon enough the profession of paralegal is going to be completely AI based. The payroll technician is also quickly being made obsolete. AI does not have transcription errors and it only takes one programmer. Jobs like these where you are basically verifying something are going to go away. this is not like where we went from paper records to digital records. The low level paper pusher is going to be made obsolete.
  16. no one cares if I am offended and besides there is a better use of my time and energy than whining/complaining to someone who probably could not care less. The pro-Trump rally was harmless other than the usual trash that humans leave behind no matter what they are doing.
  17. Can you prove that men will be waiving their penises? Now... no opinions or rhetoric. If they expose themselves.. that breaks the law and they should enforce the law. However, if I do not like something.. I simply avoid it. Guess what? There was a pro-Trump rally and guess what I did? I simply went down another street due west of my original path. Problem solved.
  18. I know that no one will answer this directly and with only a number.. But how many public schools have allowed a drag queen into their schools. Keep in mind that there are roughly 131,000 k-12 schools in America. Now, spare us all the rhetoric. If you are going to answer.. just supply the number (130 for example) and the method for getting the number.
  19. Wages have increased but not at the same rate as that of rental prices/home prices. In a state like Nevada where the economy is disproportionately skewed towards restaurants (naics 721) and retail (naics 44 and 45), this rent increase is going to hit harder than it should. These industries are low wage by their very nature.
  20. today's selection is from a Canadian punk rock band, The Flatliners. Maybe not the most technically proficient.. they bring energy and a bit of irreverent humor.
  21. I do not know how it is in Canada but the issue in my neck of the woods is that rental prices are dictated by the willingness/ability to pay of the top 5% of the income bracket. Units will sit empty for months as the landlords patiently wait for the person to come along who is willing/able to pay $2000 per month for a 2 bedroom/1 bath apt. Cut it down to $1300 and your place is full but they have taken the approach seemingly of keeping the price high and catering to only the wealthiest.
  22. There will be a gay pride parade in my town on Saturday. Guess what? Unless you do not how to read... it is very clear as to where it will be held. It will be held on a seven by two block area in downtown. This only encompasses about 2% of the statutory city limits. The point is that it is clearly marked and there are numerous ways to avoid it. Those who do not like it... can simply turn left and move on. As for myself, I would rather do stuff like go to the water park/swimming pool than stand out in 98 degree heat watching gay people celebrate.
  23. With Commercials.. this is the method behind the madness. The lower 25% of the income spectrum spend more of their income on consumption goods. Commercials are mostly for consumption goods not stocks/bonds/financial instruments. Who is generally in that lower 25%... blacks, hispanics. Put it all together and it makes sense.
  24. With the wave of AI coming to the labor market in the next 5 to 10 years.. the lines are going to get blurred. A lot of middle class or middle income jobs are going to be done by AI and that is going to cause some ripples in the socioeconomic pond.
  25. Back to the topic.. One wal-mart is not going to cause a seismic shift in the landscape for Wal-Mart or their customers as a whole. Shoplifting is a problem everywhere not just chicago.
