Small sample size but of those that I have met and got to know well enough... 0% have the stereotypical damaged relationship with parents, abuse, neglect, etc. All came from stable, middle income backgrounds and have experimented with both ends of it (purely same sex, hetero). Also, I agree that conversion therapy is both pointless in most cases and quackery. One of my best friends is an almost lifelong lesbian. She does not have the butch lesbian look at all...

Trump Indicted for Jan 6th Crimes
impartialobserver replied to robosmith's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I do not believe that Trump will be convicted. If he is... so be it. However, unlike those on here, I will put this story on the back shelf until there is an outcome. No new information is going to come out.. saying the same things ad nauseum and pretending that it is new or interesting -
One could think that being a slave and therefore being forced to live in a more modern civilization (1820's Uganda compared to the USA) is superior to being left in the jungle. However, no one would ever opt for being a slave even if from an economic/material standpoint one is in a better situation.

Why NY is better than the South
impartialobserver replied to NYLefty's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
In all fairness.. most places out west have seen major increases in housing cost. On a percentage basis.. probably higher than what you see in NYC. Nominal or absolute form, they are way lower than NYC. The real issue is that rental costs have gone up more than wages. As for increasing the supply.. there are barriers to that happening quickly. -
Well pride month is over and you would think (dangerous, I know) that folks would move on to something new to b__ch, whine, complain about. However, that is not the way of the politico. Their boredom keeps them from doing something productive or worthwhile.

The stimulus payments in 2020 caused the most recent high inflation rates. As for the declining (but still positive) rates of inflation.. Biden is mostly not responsible. However, I know that politicians take credit for all sorts of stuff that they should not. The recent declining rates of inflation is simply economics at work. Less money chasing the same number of goods.

Why NY is better than the South

Interesting how if FL is such a great place.. they would want to pawn their problems off on someone else. If your economy/state is so great.. it could handle the illegal immigrants. -

sounds like a great living. One reason that I will probably never leave the West is the wide open spaces. One can have a life like what you describe and not have a neighbor for 20+ miles -
So in short.. we agree that someone making a youtube video about conversion therapy is free speech and so allowed. Now, going to a licensed health practitioner.. that is where it is not so clear.

I am not a fan of traffic jams either hence why I am looking to get a remote job and move to a smaller town (but not too small) out West. Reno is fine but my current 40-mile one way commute gets old. -

It is simple human nature.. Start calling someone names and mix in some alcohol and the action starts. I do not know about Toronto. Only place that I have ever been that earned the title of shithole is Bakersfield, CA. NYC, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Denver, Chicago.. all have pockets of not so great but plenty that is fine. Bakersfield looked like no one had bothered to maintain a building or road in 20 years. Every building was falling apart and decrepit. -

and you think that if you walked into a bar anywhere.. small, midsize, or city and loudly proclaimed that they were subhuman trash, id__ts, etc.. that they would take it well? Having been in a bar in both NYC and Challis, ID.. the only real difference is the selection. -
random choice but today's flavor is the Strokes

High housing prices on its own is not an indicator that your place is better than another. High housing prices tell you of high demand but more specifically high demand amongst those who are relatively wealthy. I have been to NYC and it was fun to visit. However... to live there, I am not so sure. I would much rather live in a place like Reno, Missoula, Elko, Bend OR, or Cody WY. Small but not too small with plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities. -
Context is key when evaluating this. The existence of text, books, videos that support conversion therapy would fall under the umbrella of first amendment. Now the actual service where you meet with someone and they give some sort of treatment.. that is not under the umbrella of free speech. Conversion therapy is notoriously difficult to quantify as to how successful it is. People lie and this is a topic that they often either lie or are confused about often.

I will play your game but i laid my challenge down first. Give me one practical reason why a DA would increase the amount of retail goods from $500 to $1000.. This is the test of whether you are rational/realistic or just someone that likes to be adamant/loud/outspoken. do you know how I formed this opinion? Talking directly in person to shop owners and knowing the struggle that cities out west have had in recruiting police. So spare me the usual drivel about CNN... you have watched more CNN than I ever have by leaps and bounds.
