Redundancy is your friend?
-
Many of the statesmen that created the laws are/were religious.
-
The people you most want to keep out are the ones that are most likely the most sophisticated and able to defeat such tests. They may even go to flight school in the destination country to learn how.
-
The democratically elected representatives of the citizens create the laws. Everyone is subject to the same laws.
-
Religious people have all the same rights as anyone else, and have to obey the same laws as anyone else. You are welcome to use the state schools, you are not welcome to change them to suit your unique desires.

That might be the case for Alberta that burns coal for the most part, but Ontario is mostly nuclear and hydro [water] with wind making up the majority of the rest. The annual results should be out soon, but a quick look at the graph for last year (excluding December) shows August with the highest oil/gas mix at about 6-7%.

In John Harvey Kellogg's words, how to correct "local uncleanliness" or "the habit" or "self abuse" are in his chapter on "Unchastity" in his book "Plain Facts for Old an Young": A remedy which is almost always successful in small boys is circumcision, especially when there is any degree of phimosis. The operation should be performed by a surgeon without administering an anesthetic, as the brief pain attending the operation will have a salutary effect upon the mind, especially if it be connected with the idea of punishment, as it may well be in some cases. The soreness which continues for several weeks interrupts the practice, and if it had not previously become too firmly fixed, it may be forgotten and not resumed. Not to worry ladies, he hasn't forgotten you: In females, the author has found the application of pure carbolic acid to the clitoris an excellent means of allaying the abnormal excitement, and preventing the recurrence of the practice in those whose will-power has become so weakened that the patient is unable to exercise entire self-control. Something to think about next time you have Corn Flakes for breakfast.

Canada is the #1 customer of the USA. Yes, you buy more trinkets from China, but they buy little from you in exchange.

Should our Prime Minister meet with average Canadians from all over the economic, geographic, and political spectrum? ...or should he just take orders from his [future] bosses in the boardroom? I for one am glad to see a change in direction from our government.

Remember when Harper was criticized over Erebus.
?Impact replied to PIK's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm not sure what Ontario finances has to do with federal politics and the Erebus. -
Good question, or perhaps better would be what is the employment rate and average salary. We are about 1 year into the Syrian refugee migration and it would be interesting to see how they have settled. Do you have any answers, I mean real answers?

How did they find you in Canada? Are you networking in the same circles, or are you breaking out into mainstream Canadian population?

Universal guaranteed income experiment

Let's see housing, good food, clothing, etc. Yes the comparative prices of televisions has dropped, but that is totally meaningless. Shelter has skyrocketed, especially in urban areas. Good food is no longer affordable, yes I can buy packaged sugar cheaper but that doesn't help anything. Clothing is also relative. Yes I can get a cheaper petroleum product to wear today, but a good piece of clothing that will last has increased significantly. -
Yes, natural sources are important as well but cannot be taken into account in isolation from natural carbon sinks. There is a certain degree of balance between the natural sources and natural sinks which provides a stability in the atmospheric content of carbon. That balance has been upset by the anthropogenic sources without a corresponding anthropogenic sink. ... Yes the half life is very important, and Methane is a serious contributor to global warming as well although its volume is significantly lower so the overall effect is carbon is several times more significant. You should also look at the half-life of carbon in the atmosphere which is twice that of methane at 13 years. If there is a single one-time event that causes emissions, then after 5 half-life generations about 97% will be removed from the atmosphere. That means that a one-time methane emission will be around for about 35 years, and a one-time carbon emission will be around for about 70 years. Of course we are not talking about one-time emissions here, we are talking about continuous emissions.

I don't think that is the fundamental issue, but yes it a difference in outcome for the practices between genders. The fundamental issue in my opinion is that nobody should be forced to undergo any body modification unless there is a serious health threat if they do not. Once one reaches the age of reason (notice I didn't say adult, or 18, or any other arbitrary value) then I don't think society should stand in their way if they want to have a body modification (tattoo, circumcision, piercing, or whatever), although we should provide them with proper education so they can make an informed decision.

As defined, freedom of religion does not include freedom from the laws of the land. Our laws are made by the legislature, and they are absolute.
-
What rights? The right to freedom of religion as defined by that secular nation? Do you presume some other 'human rights' beyond those that are the law of the land? Let's take your example of wanting to take a break from school, or from work for that matter. Nothing is stopping you from doing so, but if you want to benefit from the public investing in your education then there are practical considerations that you must take into account as well. A public education requires a certain level of participation from individuals, and it would not be practical in a group setting to allow many unique exemptions. There are reasonable exemptions already allowed, but a some point there is a limit to what is practical. There is nothing stopping those who want to start their own private education system, without public support, and make unique exemptions for that group. We have many examples of private education in this secular nation, including private education associated with religion. The same applies to work. If you want a specialized work environment, then create your own company that provides it.

Not really sure where this thread is going as it seems all over the place. Getting back to the original OP, there has been a lot of research recently with carbon nanotubes to 'paint' a battery onto surfaces. I haven't seen anything about photocells, but that seems like a possible progression.

I like the current system at the Globe & Mail, they have 5 choices to react (like, funny, wow, sad, disagree). You can also see who voted for each. I am still debating the community moderation policy there. When you post, you have to 'moderate' 2 other posts.

Valid point, but should that apply to the individual, the group, or across the entire board?
