  1. Goodbye Roy. I was lucky enough to see you perform a show here in my home town a few years ago. Loved your fingerpickin' style on guitar, banjo, and fiddle. Loved your sense of humour too!
  2. Shikaka!
  3. Article today on bad forest management in BC.

They have been cutting down broadleaf trees, birch and aspen, to make room for more commercially valuable pines. Result? Massive forest fires that spread rapidly, as pine resin is a highly combustible material.

  4. This has to be the most disgusting moment yet for the virtue-signalling PM. Let's hope that voters take note.
  5. That would have been priceless. Too bad CNN has no sense of humour.

  7. Looks like they were so busy having a meltdown over Trump's tweets, they forgot to make a plan.
  8. Ain't that a peach!
  9. It appears that the Ontario government has pulled a "fast one" on pot smokers. There are no more illegal dope stores so that now, it's actually more difficult for people to obtain their drugs than before. Classic rip-off in true Toronto Jane-Finch-corridor homeboy style, which no doubt Doug Ford learned in his youth. Hell, he perfected it as an adult, and now holds office as Premier Doper of Ontario! Nicely done!
  10. Asean summit demonstrates Trudeau's commitment to ethical trade is mere lip-service, intended only to please his base. Meanwhile, the deals go forward.

  11. It is now virtually impossible to accept leftist criticism of Trump from a moral position, because they demonstrate their morality depends entirely on a person's politics.
  12. Oh well, back to ordering "freedom fries" and Liberty Toast...

President Trump on Tuesday ripped into French President Emmanuel Macron in a series of tweets -- hitting him on everything from his low approval ratings, to the French surrender to the Nazis in World War II, and suggesting U.S. wine is on par with French product.
Trump slams Macron for low approval ratings, French surrender to the Nazis, and wine

Donald Trump has hit out at French President Emmanuel Macron with a volley of tweets saying the French were "starting to learn German in Paris" before US intervention in the world wars, and rounding the attack off with an adapted version of his trademark refrain: "MAKE FRANCE GREAT AGAIN!"

Trump is a douche. Up to 85,000 French died in the Battle of France, not an American to be seen. Canada, Australia, South Africa and South America all make wines as good as the Americans.

Macron displays that he is also quite capable of Trumpian douchebaggery. But regardless of Trump the person, who is often full of bluster and "hot air", France and in fact the whole of Europe owe a debt of gratitude to the United States. Many an allied soldier died on the beaches of Normandy, and in the battles that ensued. Your comment "not an American to be seen" is an attempt to trivialize the sacrifices made by allied soldiers, men who gave up their precious lives to stop the Germans, and gave the French their country back.

It took the Japanese to get the US into WW2 and who knows if they would have gone to Europe if Hitler hadn't declared war on them first. There were no Americans to be seen when France went down in 1940. Aside from Pearl Harbor and the Aleutians, the US has never been attacked on its own soil. Trump talks through his ass. The US also owes a debt of gratitude to the countries that held Hitler off for over two years. The US didn't fight the godamn war by itself..

  19. CNN certainly seems to be hell-bent on getting people very agitated, with their never-ending hyperbole. I see it more as CNN promoting blatant lies and misinformation, than mere stupidity. And I also suspect that somebody with an agenda and lots of money is paying for this airtime.
  20. And yet the revolution will not be broadcast on television. Well, not on CBC anyway...

  22. Why just compassionate conservatism? I think the same thing can be said for liberals, who are in my view equally beholden to special money interests. Also the concept of "compassionate" needs to be picked apart. There's compassionate liberal soft-love, one that gives immediate comfort but could do so at the expense of long term improvement. In that regard there is compassionate conservative tough-love too. On one hand you have a reactionary impulse, the other has a longer field of view. So which one is "right"? Probably a carefully applied combination of the two. And indeed, that's what democracy is all about. As to the question about health care, I don't follow all the minutia of US politics down to that level but it's clear to me that they write these bills and try to put lots of other non-related stuff in it, making the bill in its entirety unpalatable. Even if the bill has good ideas, it doesn't pass. Having said that, if you compare Canadian and US health care it's difficult to say clearly which one is best. I've been to hospitals a lot lately unfortunately, with a sick family member and what I see going on is nothing less than shameful. Even upsetting, or worthy of anger when you consider the appalling waste of money that is the bureaucracy. Probably I hear code white on the intercom every night.
